The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End trailer (http://playlist.yahoo.com/makeplaylist.dll?id=1564047&sdm=web&qtw=480&qth=300) has been released.

I just thought someone might be interested.

Is it still that far away? For good clean rollocking fun is there any better movies then Pirates? Trailer looks good.

Did I see a whirlpool? DID I SEE A ****ING WHIRLPOOL?!

Oh now it's on.

I don't know why you're getting so worked up about it. It's not like they find a tribe of cannibals, or go to see a voodoo woman living in a swamp. Or find out that the beautiful, yet fiesty, female lead has been kidnapped by a crew of undead pirates.

Nope, nothing like that at all...

I could forgive the similarities with the first film, after all, they've both based off the same damn ride, the second film was a little annoying, but I suppose it all comes down to the same thing, but this? If Will wakes up at the end and find out it was all a dream, i'll be burning down the cinema.

"Will, stop dozing off and back to welding those handles like I told you!"

"I'm a Pirate!"

"Maybe later Honey, but right now Mommy's gotta go yell at Daddy about his alimony payments."

If these movies came out 10 years ago when Monkey Island was (more) popular, they would be a joke.

I'll drink to that...

Joshi

When were they ever widely popular? Amongst gamers, they were, but then gamers didn't have the numbers they did now, MI simply wasn't well known enough at the time and has only in recent years become a cult classic. Had this game been released ten years ago (which would be during the time of COMI) only the people who'd played the originals would have found similarities and COMI would have been seen as a rip off of POTC.

SeaTurtle
04-16-2007, 08:52 AM
Very true. If a movie of Monkey Island was ever made (which is highly unlikely anyway) it would be seen as a complete rip off of POTC, even though the games were released over ten years before Curse of the Black Pearl was.

Anyway here's a nice new clip for you: Clickety (http://www.totaleclips.com/Player/Bounce.aspx?eclipid=b10069&bitrateid=342&vendorid=600)

And another: Clickety again (http://playlist.yahoo.com/makeplaylist.dll?id=1564505&sdm=web&qtw=640&qth=400)

Lets see how many more MI similarities we can spot and complain about, eh?

"Johnny, we want to stick you into a cannon and vault you out to sea, you okay with that?"

Gah! Have they stolen enough?!

SeaTurtle

I wonder if Johnny's played Monkey Island! Oooooohhh *slips into dreamy fangirl state*

Fealiks
04-16-2007, 02:06 PM
*gasp* wow yeah, 1991 isn't closer to 10 years ago than 2000 is any more, is it?
And I did say more popular, but yeah, I suppose you have made valid points.

And on another note, it annoys me how everyone involved is so up this movie's arse, "oh yes, it's such an original movie" It isn't an original movie, it's STOLEN! You bastards!

Joshi
04-17-2007, 04:08 AM
Not really stolen (I doubt they'd set out to make as many similarities with the games as possible), but then not really original either. There are hundreds of books out there that touch on the subjects used in these movies.

Fealiks
04-17-2007, 04:47 PM
Okay, not stolen, but very... inspired.

Joshi
04-18-2007, 04:00 AM
If challenged enough they may use the word "homage"...

Fealiks
04-18-2007, 04:36 PM
"Homage", eh? It's a risky one, pal!

Joshi
04-19-2007, 03:44 AM
I never said they'd be right. But they'd be kinda safe with it. People "pay homage" all the time. The line between homage and stealing is very blurry.

Fealiks
04-19-2007, 03:11 PM
I hope they don't say that. It would be nice for a Monkey Island reference, though. I would prefer it if they said "we are paying an homage to Monkey Island in this scene" rather than "Oooh, I love this scene! ...Monkey who?"

Joshi
04-20-2007, 03:42 AM
All I want is for Sparrow to say "That's the second biggest _____ I've ever seen!".

SeaTurtle
04-20-2007, 09:26 AM
 That would be great. Or if he said "Look, behind you! A three-headed monkey!" to aid some sort of getaway

Joshi
04-20-2007, 09:31 AM
Too obvious, I'd prefer the second biggest thing only because that noun could be anything.

SeaTurtle
04-20-2007, 09:55 AM
True.

They could use "undead monkey" instead though, couldn't they? Since they already have one.

Joshi
04-20-2007, 09:57 AM
Their undead monkey isn't very big though. It needs to be something that's fairly large in size that would cause jack to say something like that.

Last Sunday I saw an old b/w movie from 1954, titled The Black Pearl.

None of those were from 1954, any of the four there the one you saw?

Ray Jones

I tried the same myself, and no, none of them matches. I have to correct myself, it's from 1953, and with Steward Granger it think..

Nope, nothing there by the name "The Black Pearl". But the movie does obviously exist, in various incarnations.

so using Jesus Christ as an expletive is so much more creative and unique than the word retard?
You can't stop me, you can't beat me, more importantly you can never dissuade me. If you were smart you would ignore me. But as you hang out on LucasForum's Monkey Island board, that rules you out. I thought Joshi was a fncking retard, now they're all coming out of the woodwork.

As you appear to be completely devoid of intelligence, it wouldn't occur to you that a common expletive does not require any extra wit to establish a point. And would you please tell someone why you think Joshi is a retard? I can't think of any reason that anyone would hate Joshi so passionately, apart from, perhaps if their argument towards him was completely thwarted by him, or if he has locked a thread of yours, perhaps he refused to ban you? That seems like it would be quite an insulting offence in your eyes since you seem to so desperately yearn to be banned.

Sorry, Sea Turtle, everything was going well until Rye Rye Rocco made his half baked contribution. Captain Jack isn't Guybrush enough.

Why do you people insist on claiming I hate Joshi? I never used the word hate. I just think he's a dunce.

Hmm, fairly entertaining. Not really very many extra shots, but it still looks like it might be pretty good. I'm kinda anxious to get my hands on the Def Con track by Immediate Music though (the tune that plays in the background of that clip as well as part of the trailer). I haven't been able to find it anywhere and of course, immediate Music hasn't released it.

There are not many threads to post in anymore. Well, anyway, I've been reading up, and I have a few things to say, due to my observations.

1 - Ave, of course I was always mean to you. New people, young new people deserve it. It's the circle all must complete when entering a community of *******s, especially those under 16 years old. I used to be a compassionate, happy person, you know. The *******s have made me a better person. Now, I'm a grumpy old man. As your senior, take my advice: When someone is being a dick to you, you can either try to retort or throw a hissy fit. Both are acceptable responses. Now, here is the test. On that same note, who in their right mind would lay upon your shoulders the power to moderate a section of their forum?

2 - Fealiks, I have been pretty much the same to you, no? Fourteen years old? Pitiful! Blasphemy and madness. I can train you. I can make you better.

Well thank you for offering me an explaniation. I see your point of view and compleatly understand. I'm sorry you're old and grumpy, and I'm youthful and spirited and delishious.

Oh, and Thrik would. It's not a major board. Just the spam infested, hate fest, stupdity filled, flame hole that is Razputin's Domain. Nobody there talks about Psychonauts anymore, just random interjections and being complete dumbasses, perverts, and annoying people. At least I get out of there sometimes. ~sigh~ I'll always remember the good ol' days.

Joshi

I used to frequent Raz's Domain, until people started talking about things that frankly, didn't interest me (i.e, ships) and I didn't actually need any help in the game anymore. I still go by every now and then, but Ave's right, it's a little spam infested.

Oh who am I to talk, this place would be just as spam infested if we had enough people.

Damn right you won't. Fifteen is far worse, though. I've learned that fifteen is an absolutely unacceptable age. You'd better simply skip to sixteen come September, Fealiks, for good measure.
