I found following about an island in China, Monkey Island, with bronze-haired monkies!

About 10km south of Lingshui, XINCUN is a small market town with a large Hakka population - you'll see plenty of black-clad Hakka women with broad hats and gold and jade jewellery. Ferries ply from here across to Nanwan Monkey Island (Nanwan Hou Dao), which is actually a peninsula, but there's no landward access. The research station based here studies local groups of macaques, small, bronze-haired monkeys with pale eyelids and red backsides, and there's a visitors' centre where you can feed them. Check that the island is open before heading out here, however, as access is periodically denied due to "monkey illnesses".

Interesting. That's all I can say, except that's some good research there. Man, I'm hearing all these things about bronze-haired monkeys and real locations of Monkey Islands all over the world, I'm beginning to wonder if the Monkey Island series isn't purely based on imaginated fiction as I thought it once was...No, I still think it was pure literary imagination on the writers at LEC. Really nice research though, and it is very interesting. I only wish we could relate the monkeys to MI instead of relating MI to the monkeys.
