View Full Version : Spiderman 3 - Thoughts and Opinions

Spiderman 3 is the third installment of the Spiderman movie series. Spiderman 3 brings in a few new villains in these movies. There is Sandman/Flint Marko (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandman_(Marvel_Comics)) (Thomas Haden Church (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0002006/)). Also, Venom/Eddie Brock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venom_%28comics%29#Film) (Topher Grace (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0333410/)) and returning is Harry Osborn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Osborn) (James Franco (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0290556/)). Spiderman/Peter Parker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man) (Tobey Maguire (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001497/)) and Mary Jane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Jane_Watson) (Kirsten Dunst (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000379/)) finally get together. Though, he still faces the inevitable in facing three more enemies. But one night, his "costume" changes black and the ability to enhance his superpowers. As a result, the suit brings out an evil, darker, inimical side of him. Though, after becoming more egotistical, he abandons the suit. Eventually facing the villains. Also appearing in Spiderman 3 is Gwen Stacey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwen_Stacy#Film) (Bryce Dallas Howard (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0397171/)) who is the new, love interest of Eddie Brock.

Here are some links for the trailers, information, and whatnot for the movie. :)

So, what are thoughts and opinions for this film. Excited? Disgusted?

Personally, I am pretty excited about this movie. Though, I seem to be excited with about every movie that comes out these days. :p I've already purchased my ticket from the movie next week, right after school. :D

boughten isn't a word

ET Warrior
04-28-2007, 01:16 AM
While technically a word, you've still used it in a grammatically unacceptable way. You may use boughten as an adjective, to describe something that had been bought. So, had you said, "I've got my boughten ticket" You would be ok. However, it is not a verb, and you get an F.

I can't wait for it. Venom is my favorite villan. I've been waiting for this for a long time. Bring on Spidey 3 I say.

Venom wont be in this one from what I hear. This takes place when Spidey finds his symbiote. Venom comes way later when Eddie Brock finds it. This is about Sandman as the antagoist. Anyway im voting that Venom will come in Spiderman 4

And back to the real topic here:
I am definately going to see the movie. If not for the whole Spiderman thing but because I want to see Eric(The nerdling we all love in the 70s show) become Venom(The most badass villain I know) :p
But I'm worried of the plot, which is always a problem with comics made into movies. What I've read it seems they're pretty loyal to the original plot in the comics, but it still worries me a bit. However, they have made excellent work thus far in the movie adaptations.

Can't wait

I'm very very excited about Spider-man 3. :D

I'm a little worried about how Venom (http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e67/Pho3nix-/Venom.jpg) will turn out, he looks good in still pictures but in motion I'm not sure.

Sandman has always been the most boring villain in the whole Spider-man universe right next to Doc Ock. So for me the whole Sandman storyline will be overshadowed by my greed of seeing Eddie becoming Venom and fighting Spidey.

I am uber pumped about this. I've read up on it and stuff, so I don't see myself getting dissapointed by venom or the storyline in any major way, so I'm pretty damn excited, also I hear its going to be a long one, which we all know means long fight/chase scenes :)

I thought the first two Spider-Man movies were quite enjoyable and will definitely head to my local theater to see Spider-Man 3. I am somewhat apprehensive about how well the story will work with three different villains in play though.

http://www.answers.com/boughten&r=67
You should have actually read the entire definition

"The Northern form boughten (as in store boughten) features the participial ending –en, added to bought, the participial form, probably by analogy with more common participial adjectives such as frozen."

You can use boughten as a participial adjective, just like you can with frozen, as a modifier to describe something. And because a participle is an adjective form of a verb, it's not a verb anymore and cannot be used as such. I keep my throne, and to the dungeons with you.

Regardless though, the definition still clearly dictates the word as a verb, as it says in the very first definition. Sure, you can do whatever faux-grammar wriggling to get out of it, but you can't deny what it bluntly states.

The only case you have is to say that Northern US dialect don't count, but once you do that you'll have the entire state of Montana upon you...

It is a "past participle of buy". It's still TECHNICALLY a verb, but you cannot USE it as a verb in a sentence, which is why I say it is not a verb. You can argue that I was semantically incorrect, but for all intents and purposes it's not a verb. So :p

Seriously blew my mind. Everything from the story, the acting, the special effects, the cinematography... wow.

Holy crap...

I saw it at midnight last night, and I must say, it was incredible. Quite easily the best of the three. There was so much going on so many stories, but they handled it perfectly.

Venom was everything I had expected. I only wish he had had a bigger part, but then again, all he's good for is web-slinging action, and that would probably get pretty repetitious after a while.

The dual Spidey/Goblin tag team at the end was AMAZING!!! O_O
I was on the edge of my seat with my mouth open the whole time through about the last 20 minutes, including that bit with the Harry/Spidey duo. I like Harry now that he became friends with Peter again, so it makes me a little mad/sad that he died, but I guess it worked.

RoxStar

I'm glad that Harry died at the end. It would have been too Disney/cliched to keep him alive. Topher Grace was good. The sequence with pete getting fat was boring. the movie took a nosedive in fun level after Pete broke it off with mary jane and came back up for air with the venom and bell ringing action

I just got back from seeing it. I'll just post my thoughts in spoiler tags.

At the beginning I was liking it but when he looked in that reflection and very cheesily made his hair emo from there it went downhill, until the last battle which was amazing. I really thought they could have done more with venom. He was a very short-lived character for probably Spider-man's greatest nemesis in the comics. I thought the Sandman was OK and I was glad to see Harry come to the rescue at the end. Overall when asked what I thought I said "meh" because of how cheesy it was at times. My favorite cheesy part was when Peter started jumping around the diner with Gwen, how bad was that? Something like that would never happen.

Yes, I realize that several parts and lines in the movie did seem over the top and cheesy, but for me, it kind of reminded me that these are comic book characters we are dealing with. And I'll admit, I haven't read many of the original Spiderman comics, and those that I did read I read ages ago, but several parts, including the part where Peter brushed his hair down and the Jazz bar dance scene just seemed, for me, to pay homage to the occasionally over-the-top comic book genre. Bug meh, I'm probably the only one who thinks this way...

Yes he should have been bigger but if you caught the "Jr." part after Eddie introduced himself, that explains why Vemon was so small.

I for one could have cared less for emo parker and also with the collapsing building floor. Why didn't Spider-Man save the other two people sliding off the floor? If you watched carefully you would have noticed two more people sliding off the floor.

Awful. Just awful. It's like X-men 3 all over again. It was like a frickin' soap opera. There's another 3rd part of a trilogy that I won't be picking up on DVD.

I'm pretty disappointed, I just couldn't connect with any of the characters. And Peter's weird piano-scene with Gwen Stacy was ridiculous. The 'emo' look was also something that didn't quite fit in. It didn't feel like I was watching a Spider-man movie, rather some weird drama.

I thought the movie was pretty good. I knew it would be crammed way before seeing it, just knowing there were 3 villians, so i wasn't expecting too much out of it. However there were some things that I didn't like.

Since it was crammed, it felt like the first half of the movie was also very disjointed, jumping from one scene to another and then to another story and then another story. also, why the hell did the butler wait so long to tell Harry the truth? He seems to know a lot about what really goes on, and knew of Harry's hatred for Spider-man because of his father's death. The whole revelation seemed way to random, like he just walks in, goes "Oh yeah, Spider-Man didn't kill your father. cheerio!"

Also, I felt there wasn't enough scenes with Spider-Man in it. There was a lot of Peter, but mainly the only scenes with Spider-Man were for big fights with other villians. He didn't even round up a couple of small-time criminals or anything. Also the ending seemed a bit out of place. Usually they end the spidey movies with Spider-Man swinging through the city, but this one just ended with him dancing with Mary Jane. I was also hoping for a "We are Venom" or something like that from Eddie, but he didn't really say anything like that.

Indeed. Spider-Man 3 was a movie that wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but after all the hype it got, what movie would be? All the good parts were already known, and trying to fit 3 plots in was crazy. Besides that, it was a good quality but left me a little disappointed. But hey, all the more reason for a possible Spider-Man 4

I'd love to see Carnage in a Spiderman movie.

But 3 villains again might be a bit too much :/

Carnage of Black Cat. xD

Or maybe one of the villians from that sweet ass MTV spiderman series (The cel shaded one that was so fly). Like Electro or Silver Sable.

I was thinking the same thing... Perhaps just 2. I personally want to see Carnage and Black Cat, but that's just me :)

Here's some gifs from the movie. Photobucket shrunk down my gif of the pie scene from 400x170 to 50x52! So this is all I have to offer.

This is something I never got: The man ( Peter) can go through 3 panels of glass coming out without a scratch on him, yet when he's punched once ( not sure if it's exactly once) he loses his mask and his costume is ripped. I just thought it was funny.

Something interesting to know: Tobey Maguire is claustrophobic.... Ironic for a mask wearing super hero....

Apparently Lucas didn't like Spider-Man 3, saying it was ridiculous

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,270874,00.html

Here's a snippet where he mentions it.

Lucas told me he has seen all the summer movies since his company, Industrial Light and Magic, does most of the special effects. The only one they didn't work on was "Spider-Man 3." What did he think of it?

"It's silly. It's a silly movie," he said. "There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?"

Well, it's not "Star Wars."

"People thought 'Star Wars' was silly, too," he added, with a wink. "But it wasn't."

I can only imagine Lucas giving a wink. For some reason the image disturbs me. not to mention his whole statement seems a bit ironic coming from him.

That little panzy stole my move!
Except I wear a white suit with black polka-dots and buttons that light up and a matching top hat.

And a monkey too!Good thing you threw in that last bit. Otherwise you would have been hearing from my lawyers!

I thought it was great all around. Did it follow any spiderman timeline/thing well? not really, but it worked. And I think if you had some wicked amazing powers and a baddass black suit, you'd do some whack stuff too, why? because you can.

I thought sandman looked great, and Thomas Church who played him did well.

I think for spiderman 4, Lizard and Kraven the Hunter would be a good mix, but maybe thats just me. Maybe Rhino just to make it classic.

No sir. Spider-Man 3 is suffering from a trend over the last decade and if you look back, you will agree with me on this one. All movies that involve super heroes on a third sequel basically suck. Now Spider-Man 3 is not one of the worst ones out there. I liked it, but I also expected more. Still....it suffered the same curse.

Now if you want to talk about one of the worst movies of all times, that would be The Blair Witch Project, the king daddy of all stinky movies, of all time.

And I will be more than willing to argue that one until I breath my last breath.

I actually though that it wasn't that bad of a movie. But opinions mean nothing in the eyes of a critic/ doesn't have any value to anyone, but that really doesn't mean anything.
{Wait a sec, don't critics give their opinions?}:p

No I don't think that Spider-Man 3 was one of the worst ones out there, but wasn't the greatest out there. I would rank the movie a 8/10 personally. B's aren't bad at all. :)
I also agree the " movies that invovle super heroes on a third sequel basically suck" part. Generally that is what tends to happen. :) But of course, most of this is IMO.
