I dunno if this is allowed on these forums (if it is not allowed then please edit it). I did not read in the rules about not posting private server stuff, so...

swgemu.com is making an emu for SWG (private servers). We are still in Pre-alpha and need every programer's help finishing. It is open source so you can help the project get done faster. We have about 50 programers working on it and about 10 of them actually doing a lot of work.

My Server's Site: (this was made by Chilastra's Exiles)
http://www.spraticnet.com/

I have been playing SWG since beta and I am very upset with what they have done to the game, so I am here to support swgemu.com and everything they do. If you feel the same way I do, please join us!

You can find out more information about SWGEmu @ www.truegalaxies.com
(DMUK)

Is it legal? I mean, can you do it without getting sued by SOE?

We (as in the LFN Network) will be posting a statement about SWGEmu shortly. Lucasarts have brought it to our attention.

The whole idea is VERY exciting and expect full updates from us shortly. Naturally, if any of you out there are coders - PLEASE lend your support.

I've made some changes to some earlier posts and apologise for any confusion caused.

no, jedi will be back. what the EMU will do is it will utilize all of the patch.tre files that are up till patch 13. after this everything started going down hill. As of now the jedi path will once again be hologrinding. But if LucasArts is in fact backing up the EMU team like DMUK said, we can likely hope for a game we can all like. The EMU team is always listening to ideas on their forums. I haven't seen an organized Starsider server yet, but it would be nice. Otherwise im willing to gropu with any friends from Starsider and head to a new server :D. I'm so psyched about it.

To answer rogue, i would say if Lucasarts is going to back it sure. If not and it continues the way it does, most servers will be free, of course donations always help for their maintenance. To answer Hugo. I'm sure at the end of the day they have seen the hype generated by the whole idea of pre-CU servers and have seen where they messed up.

I have the technical expertise of a 21st-century ape - I can do a little html, mostly by accident - so I can't be much actual help. But I will definitely keep an eye on how this goes. I'm pretty damn surprised that LA and SOE aren't getting in a huff about it... in fact, I'm inclined to disbelieve it entirely. They have only themselves to blame.

Hi, I'm Audune Ado'lynn at the SWGEmu forums.

Any and all talks we had with LA or SOE were deemed PRIVATE and that has not changed from what I've heard.

I have PM'ed the Forum Admin who has replyed on this topic asking that any information that LA be held until we (at SWGEmu.com) be notifyed of it first.

We have not heard of any "agreement" nor have we given one as of yet, if any.

There is no "Official" Emu disk out, and if you spent money on it, you were SCAMMED.

There is no IFs/Ands/Buts about it.

Dispute it to EBAY immediatly and get your money back. If you want a free copy, with free servers, free everything, go to www.swgemu.com and read the FAQ and read about setting up your client to connect to an Emulated server. There are many many posts on the boards that deal with this.

The ONLY official place you can get the SWGEmu from is www.swgemu.com

Period.

So if it's true then how come the people from SWGEMU (points above) deny it. Also they never posted anything on their forums.. Wouldn't you think they would?

And and your Starsider friends can join us. We have a nice amoutn of starsiderians (sp?) here at eXile as well as the home for sunrunner and Chilastra.

And we have a nice ampount of players form other servers as well.

Certain servers are doign different things

here at eXile the polls indicate the community wishes for pre-9 and hologrind.

Donatiosn are appreciated but it is free.

Everything will be back and the same up to publish 13.. certain servers will make slight adjustments. Such as having a pre-9 system instead.

The cool thing about it, is that people will be able to choose alot of the rulesets.

Be it everyone can start as Jedi, or the Hologrind, Village...or even a compleatly custom setup.

Real experimenting will come some time down the road about what we can unleash from the beast that is SWG.

but keep up the good work, you guys rock!

also a few more questions:

will the expansion packs be available? and will the 'new character enhancements' be included as well? or will it simply be, anything before pub13? either way.....can't wait!

Jo
08-11-2006, 02:24 PM
right now far as i can tell its anything before pub 13. getting the JTL part to work will be even more time. what the emu team is doing is practically rebuilding, the only difference is they got a foundation to work off of. I'm sure they will work on the expansions being added at a later time. Personally i can live without an expansion if we just got the original back heh.

Jan Gaarni
08-14-2006, 03:56 AM
I hope they switch JTL from Wing Commander style to Star Wars style like it aught to be.

No skidding in space, no Wing Commander HUD. Get the classic Star Wars look back into the game so we can feel that we are in the Star Wars Universe.

Will the developers include some of the fixes that were made after pub 13? There were still problems with the game back then. One thing I do like about the NGE is the looting system, looting used to be so tedious.

However this all sounds amazing and I am extremely excited to hear this is going down. Keep up the good work! :)

Lies. None of the devs or mods are distributing the cient, particularly not in disk form, and definetly not for a fee.

If you "bought" a disk purporting to contain the emu client, you were scammed and are an idiot.

You can download the client (and even the server binaries) at http://swgemumods.com. However, keep in mind that you actually have to have the IP for the server you would like to join before being able to login. It's not as simple as just downloading the files and clicking play.

Ironic, considering the following:

The emu has never been for sale. The emu is not for sale. The emu will never be for sale. (I'm reiterating this because I don't want to see anyone get ripped off by attempting to buy something that is free.)

Why would you pay for an OPEN SOURCE PROJECT (I'm assuming you were one of the few who got suckered into buying the disks from that cat who made a listing on eBay)? And then call somebody trying to help you out a "noob"?

Thanks for letting me know that these forums are not worth coming back to.

I just registered on these forums a few days ago, and this is the first I've heard of this project - I think it sounds great, even though I didn't start playing SWG until after the NGE. I definitely want to check out SWGemu, because I am getting bored playing SOE's offering! (They should turn it into an offering.....................a burnt offering!! :lightning )

How close is the EMU team to having something that is playable?

Ya I was playing it a bit today, can really only walk around, no skills work, no nothing, but supposedly they have combat working, it's just hasn't been pushed public yet.

Pre-Cu was good, and CU was good(problems like the economy was trashed, the lvl system didn't work, to many jedi, but it was balanced and it was fun) but SOE has to swing the nerf bat at everything and they ruined both many many times, they were ruining pre-cu even before it was gone, and then they were ruining CU before NGE came out, all they have to countless times is screw something up, then decide "oh well, it's f*cked so lets make a new system".

ummm yes, it'd be like playing on a normal SOE server, only with less people probably. Now that being said there are lots of SWGEmu servers so we'll see how thin or thick the populations are, but anyone playing on one server can interact with everyone else on that server.

Hey, i have another question...

Since the EMU is Pre-CU, then for a Jedi, there is Perma-Death AND how do you become a Jedi in Pre-CU? Hologrinding?

Hey, i have another question...

They haven't decided on any of that yet, they probably won't even do it, they may leave it up to individual servers to implement jedi or not. At the current patch they are using(past publish 9 atleast), the Jedi system in place was the force village, but because of the time(or lack there of) required to unlock in this sytem they may not use it or change it. Even before they put this in, perma-death was gone and you just had skill loss. I'm pretty sure though they will scale attaining jedi to the power of them. The stronger they are, the harder it will be to obtain it.

Back in the day I have seen 1 jedi strike through 10 people in Coronet before having to flee, after the village jedi became more common and weaker, it was better when it was dangerous to level but when you got there you were a true alpha-class.

Yes they are seperate teh swgemu though is in no way supported by SOE you could get banned if they find out so just dont go around saying i play the emu and you should be fine.

Core 1 is complete, core 2 has been scrapped, and they're building core 3 as we speak. They've got pretty much everything running and working, such as: bazaars, combat, leveling, and almost done with housing, professions, and shuttles.

If we're lucky, we might even have a beta by Christmas.

Visit truegalaxies.com for more info. :vsd:

I think I made a blood oath to never touch Galaxies ever again, but I was really bored, so I gave JTL a go a few days ago. I think I played it for less than an hour. I didn't like the fact that I could outright select "Jedi." I could swear they were all wiped out during the Purge. And the space controls felt like they were trying to copy freelancer, but failed miserably.

One thing I did sort of liked was the way I fired my blaster or swung my sword with each click of the mouse.

In the end, I remember that I enjoyed myself with the original version of the game, so when SWGemu gets done, I'd gladly give it a try.

I played Galaxies a year or 2 ago and I didn't like it, I got it right after they released the dreaded combat upgrade.

Just an update for anyone who's missed it.

Has had their first successfull tentative stress test of their beta core3 server.

Test server specs
1.6 Core2 Duo/2 GB ram/100 mbit line

For 1 machine running the whole galaxy, all planets, they were able to get 278ppl on in just the dant mo alone,

Now that is not the limit thats only how many people had the time avalable to log into the test server. sadly i was in class so i missed the test as did many, so they are having another stability test to see if they can get more players online.

in order to try get their maximum numbers im posting the next test time here which is easily viewable from their website.

Time
5:30PM EST. THIS FRIDAY FEBRUARY 23RD

Please i do remind you to read the updates section and FAQ before posting or asking questions, yes i know its tedious but there are some less that upstanding ppl who play and some wont be as eager to help newbies to the emu.

DONT PM THE DEVS
they will be extreamly busy analyzing the server and code to make sure they learn as much as they can from the stress tests.

their IRC has a limit of 500 users but they will post updates on the forum's as to server status.

Swgemu irc channels

if you have Irc installed just paste the address into your web browser, if you dont have irc google it and choose any client u like.

irc://irc.swgemu.com:6667/swgemu
irc://irc.swgemu.com:6667/test

http://www.swgemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1120
http://www.spraticnet.com/~swg/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2334

Server IP
Dont ask for the IP, It is written in the MOTD (Message of the Day) for the #Test Channel at swgemu's Irc.
Server status is also in the MOTD.

Good luck and i hope to see many of you there and online for the test.

Just a word of caution
There are many users in the irc who have short tempers and/or are not exactly friendly to new ppl, if someone flames you for being a "nubb, or newb" PLEASE just shrug them off no matter how much of an ass they are, flame wars don't help the testing process, and often leave newcomers with a bad taste of the emu team. the dev's are nice people and the forums are modded by community members and not dev's , this way the devs can focus their time on coding the emu so its not the devs fault if some smacktard flames you for being new, some ppl are just looking for a fight.

well you can use your original swg cd's and if you pirate the game the emu wont work, so just buy it online if u dont have the disks.

you will need to update with the official patch files listed under this link.

http://www.spraticnet.com/~swg/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2334

as well as the files for fixing the lighting and empty emotes.

then you just need to get the ip address from the irc chanell called #test, dont ask for it its in the message of the day, of the forums.

yes truegalaxies and spraticnet will eventually be servers but the stress test is at swgemu

here's what I did to get in a server (and get massacred alot in pvp...)

edit this .cfg file:

swgemu_login.cfg

To have this in it:

loginServerPort0=44453
loginServerAddress0=chicago.swgemu.com

Set your short cut target to this:

"C:\Program Files\StarWarsGalaxies\SWGEmu.exe" -- -s Station subscriptionFeatures=1 gameFeatures=255"

yes, there are 3 " I don't understand why the third one is there, but it works like this.

the rest of the setup instructions can be found all over the place.

(the 14 or so files to patch, and the 7 others that also need updateing).

SWG Emulation Update

SWGEMU
SGEmu are still working on Core3 - an optimized rewrite of their original code. They currently have a decent amount of combat in, and their test server is regularly online at chicago.swgemu.com. See their forums and/or chat for further details. I cba to link to them.

SWGANH
The until-now-quiet SWGANH team have finally gone public (ANH stand for A New Hope, as any Star Wars fan should've already gathered). You can gauge their progress by browsing the only publicly available screenshots available at http://swganh.com.

The ANH forums are still closed, but feel free to inquire about and/or discuss the ANH project on our ANH forums at SWGEmods.com (http://swgemods.com).

Enjoy the screenies.

Other Emus
The other emus are progressing nicely as well. They may be adopting a "tortoise and the hare" mentality, but this is necessary to prevent buggy and incomplete code.

OpenSWG (http://openswg.com), the CU emulator team, have made some very encouraging progressover the past couple of months. They are currently still working on full 'nix portability before pressing on. Very commendable.

Phoenix OS (a pre-CU emu coded in VB6) have also been making some progress as of late with zone insertion, basic NPC insertion, and many highly optimized features.

The status of SWG DotNet (an NGE emulator) is currently unknown.

[ I am only posting this to make everyone aware of an alternative to the patently immature and painfully disrespectful SWGEmu team.

I appreciate the thoughtful post and update on the widespread emu's for SWG, but i think this quoted comment is a bit arrogant. These guys have done ALOT in terms of the EMU. Yes, they do silly stuff, i've been on their forums, etc. and i may not know the story behind where such a comment came to be, but you need to be a bit more respectful. SWGANH looks nice i might add as well.

Jager, thanks alot for the list of other emu's.

and has anyone heard or seen anything come of this post? (about 8 months ago by DMUK) I've been unable to find anything further on this, or any comments from SOE for that matter, and I'm sure SOE's got to be thouroughly pissed about the emu's being worked on-yet they refuse to comment...

We (as in the LFN Network) will be posting a statement about SWGEmu shortly. Lucasarts have brought it to our attention.

The whole idea is VERY exciting and expect full updates from us shortly. Naturally, if any of you out there are coders - PLEASE lend your support.

I've made some changes to some earlier posts and apologise for any confusion caused.

so JTL will be included Correct? and if its open Source does that mean you can edit it to have new ship or another ship flyable? also what if you have installed a game that already has Patch 15 in it?

and if LA is truely supporting us SOE can't say squat.

I'm reasonably sure that JTL will be included in it, though it my be one of the last parts implemented, and it would be up to the server opperators weather or not to even include JTL in the "publically hosted server". The SWGEmu team (as far as I know) are trying to reverse engineer the server code as it was at patch 12.1 (a time shortly before the CU, so yes, JTL would be part of the codeing they do-IF they get around to it. The complete construction of a 12.1 server code is the intent, but of course time and difficulty may alter it.

Some of the EMU teams do have open source as far as letting you try your hand at fixing stuff, but just because you do this, doesn't mean it will be implemented. Final call for that is of course up to the dev team in charge of the individual server. From what I could figure out, this source mostly comes from what teh SWGEmu team has hared previously, then butchered/patched to fit the whims of the teams makeing their own code based off this code.

Most of the EMU sites have links/instructions for reverse patching for people who got the most recent live update, and need to get the right .dll's that were corrupted from the recent patch.

Here are some juicy bits from the latest Q&A session showing how far along we are. You can find the whole Q&A at http://www.swgemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2879

Q) What % would you say JTL is complete?
A) 90%

Q) Do you feel like you will be able to add in professions soon?
A) Its a bit further on the to do list, but in the near future yes.

Q) How is experience implemented? with mobs?
A) Its there. We just wont award xp for mobs on the upcomming TC until Professions are in.

Q) You said resources were in the ground.. what percent of crafting is done along with that?
A) Most of the protocol behind crafting is done. Just the data related items are still in infancy.

Q) When do you guys think you will add groups to the TC?
A) Its on the top 10 SWG related features to do for Core3.

Q) To go along with Erec's question, how about NPCS?
A) They will be in the next TC. Watch for it

Q) Is there any word on placing structures?
A) Research was done and completed last month by Ultyma.

Q) New Content?
A) New models and skins? Not supported. New missions, quests, npcs etc yes.

Q) Can we expect some fun "events" to go along with the tests on TestCenter?
A) Thats the new direction our TC will be taking. Themed events for each stres test.

Q) What is on the top 10 list?
A) This top 10 list should ideally be completed in no more than 1.5 weeks, though it could take longer due to life. These are SWG related functions and do NOT include internal improvements to the server such as clustering & stability fixes.http://swgemu.com/paste/index.php?read=200704041620089573
