Intimidated by all the awesome art you see posted here? Ashamed of your scribblings and gripped by the urge to hide them in a dark corner, never to be seen again?

Fear no more, because the art thread for n00bs is here!

(Well, assuming it's allowed:))

The basic idea I had here, was to provide a place where n00bs like me could share and discuss artwork of any medium (preferably KotOR related) without getting publicly humiliated. This is based on the premise that we've all tried drawing, but are too embarassed to show the piece to anyone, which is exactly why I think a thread like this should exist. Of course, only constructive criticism should be given here. I can't draw to save my life, but I'd love to learn. If the pro artists would so kindly drop in once in a while to give us tips, it'd be greatly appreciated!

This would only work with your support, so aye or nay?

I'm going with aye, although my skills don't help much around here, I can give you advice on the technical drawing side. I suck with freehand people, plants etc. though.

I would gladdly help other fellows with their skills :)

I might sound a bit like a "fat head" ; but I have some skill with my pensel .

I good at character and monster stuff , but not so good at architectural stuff .
I work a bit to messy for that .

RJM, thanks! :) Any help would be greatly appreciated! (Btw, finally figured out that nifty pm/whisper function in the chatroom. Hehe)

Quanon, good to hear that, because I only ever draw with a (mechanical) pencil. It's a bad habit, but I'm just too lazy to carry regular 2B pencils around:P

Note: I don't have a scanner, so I used my mobile phone camera to take the pictures:X

Here's a quick drawing of everyone's favourite scoundrel that I did during an excessively boring lecture. I love auto adjust in Photoshop.

Click here! (http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb260/yee_yoon/Atton.jpg)
(Couldn't seem to get it to show the thumbnail instead as was shown by stoffe (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=178800). Hm.

And a lightsaber pic that was inspired by a fanfic idea I've been chewing on for a while. It's supposed to be two different people, which should explain the difference in the size of the hands. Modeled by my hands and my mobile phone:P Auto adjusted again, with a bit of cleaning up within the lightsaber beam.

Wow : Beehoon that looks really great ! :p

THose hands are pretty accurate , looks like you got some talent there ;)

Atton looks good to ; just a shame that photo looks a bit grainy , but the drawing looks pretty good already .

The only thing I could advise is that you make sure there's enough light when you take a photo of your drawings .

So keep it coming :) the more you draw and practice the better you get .

Bee Hoon

Quanon, thanks!:) Hehe, I think I overestimate the capabilities of my macro mode:P I'll keep practicing!:)

mailboris, hehe, you of all people should know how bad I can draw at times!:p Thanks:)

A quick update... A sketch of Disciple and a really crappy photo of something I drew while waiting for the Sims 2 to load:P

http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb260/yee_yoon/disciple.jpg

I am too lazy to resize it:P

http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb260/yee_yoon/halfdone.jpg

Onoez, whoever made Kavar's hair so freaking hard to draw?? It looks like a vegetable, for heaven's sake. The girl's hair should be dark, and I'll do it when I feel like it. All the lines need darkening and I really should use a proper camera and not the phone one. And stop using a mechanical pencil:P

^^ Thanks (belatedly).

Since Mass Effect keeps hanging halfway through the endgame sequence (cryyyyyyyyyyyyy!), have a Commander Shepard!http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb260/yee_yoon/DSC00804.jpg

...and a random kiddy I doodled during an exceedingly boring lecture on hepatitis.http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb260/yee_yoon/DSC00696copy.jpg
Picture quality for both are kinda bad, but oh well:P Ignore the ghostly face to the left in the first pic. I do promise to go out and buy a good eraser >.<

I can draw pretty well... Too bad I don't have a camera or a scanner...

Bee Hoon

Beg, borrow or buy :p

Arcesious

I suppose I could borrow my dad's camera... Although it's quite old... Hopefully iit's got good enough digital capability to take a good picture. I can't draw people or 'living' things, but I certainly can draw ships... But only at certain angles... I still don't have that '3D ship drawing' skill a lot of people have very well...

Ooohh, lovely :p

Thats the only thing I can contribute :)

Here are some sketches of some sith lords:

1 This one is of the Sith species:

2 This Sith Lord is a she!

Quanon, mm? Should I be saying yay? :p

TheExile, the female Sith Lord reminds me of Kreia for some reason, but she looks more bloodthirsty and such. More Sith-like than our favourite old crone:P

This is the last thing I drew, my attempt at a superhero (about a year ago):

Quanon, I love the colours! He's so gaunt and supermodel-ish

Astor_Kaine, I know it's off on a tangent, but the first thing that came to mind was "THE AMBIGUOUSLY GAY DUO!" >.<

Quanon, I love the colours! He's so gaunt and supermodel-ish

Well, it was a she, but I hate big booby things, and I went for some loose upper clothing, which make it look rather as a he o_Q

Bee Hoon
07-23-2008, 08:58 AM
Oops, sorry, my mistake:p Hehe, I don't really like big chest appendages either, but I've never seen a female of that species (what was it? Iridonian?). We've only ever seen Darth Maul and Bao-Dur!

Astor
07-23-2008, 09:30 AM
Uhh...yeah.. big appendages are a bit silly - they really should be in proportion with the rest of the person.

Anyhoo, i've been spending the morning practicing with my pencil. I printed out an outline, and had that next to a blank page, and have so far come up with this:

http://lucasforums.com/picture.php?albumid=100&pictureid=1116

I know very little about clothing and drawing it, so does that look realistic?

TheExile

That is sweet :D

Her nose and mouth seem a little out of alignment. Some of the lines (depicting the folds of fabric) at the armpit and on the pants bother me, but I can't really say why :/ Other than that, nice work!

Her nose and mouth seem a little out of alignment.

That's because I suck at drawing faces :xp:

Some of the lines (depicting the folds of fabric) at the armpit and on the pants bother me, but I can't really say why :/

I can tell what you mean - I might have been a bit overzealous when it came to adding lines - I'm trying to ink it in GIMP now, so I don't think all the lines will be used.

Other than that, nice work!

Thank you! I like your Shepherd too. Hepatitis lectures must really be boring!

Quanon

(what was it? Iridonian?). We've only ever seen Darth Maul and Bao-Dur!

Yep that was the plan :)

Though if her lips get some colour it might be more 'female', though I went for a sort of strong fem character

Bee Hoon
07-23-2008, 10:01 AM
Quanon, hehe, yeah. Are you planning to colour her lips? Onoez Quanon doesn't like Mary-Sues

Astor_Kaine, hehe, I haven't actually coloured anything other than bears, so any tips on colouring would be good. Oh, I used to be really bad at it (every face I drew in profile would have looked like a cyclops if you saw it from the front), but eventually it was the only thing I doodled :p I find it helpful to just look at right fabric/pictures to get an idea. Or since I always draw fanart, the ingame model :p

TheExile

If first time you did too many, I think this time you could add a *few* more lines.
The human body isn't plain. It has loads of bends and curves and lines that you can evidence better thru shading, but if shading not available, a few more lines too the plain aspect will d only better. Try to find a balance between the first and the second attempt.

This one I did a some time back, euhmz... ackward sentence

Anyway its in my little Gallery here on LF, but posting it around here might get some extra looks... and critic review :p

Fire away !

Lookin' good, Quanon!

So i'm going to see the Dark Knight tonight, and i've been getting pumped all day. I've watched Batman Begins, and some of the animated series, but it still wasn't enough.

http://www.lucasforums.com/picture.php?albumid=100&pictureid=1245

Pretty crappy looking, no?

http://www.lucasforums.com/picture.php?albumid=100&pictureid=1244

Much better! ;)

Nice idea, Bee. While I don't consider myself an amateur, I don't consider myself an artist either, much less a professional. My biggest problem is that I'm clueless when it comes to computerized painting of scanned images. I'm pretty good at drawing with a pencil, but I'd like to be able to do some nice coloring in Photoshop, starting with inking. This is why I'd appreciate anyone who knows how to do these things, or knows of good tutorials to post some links, or his/her own tutorials.

And now, here's a recent drawing I did when I was extremely bored. Yup, it's a Jedi.

http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/9898/copyofscan0001fe5.jpg

Edit: Here's my most recent attempt at Photoshop coloring. Since you haven't seen my earlier attempts you can take my word that it's an improvement.

Oohh, new pictures to look at :p

Batman looks like the cartoons I used to watch, very nice !

And Iggyman, great results with that color :)

Really nice all :p

Better get drawing again...

Quanon, very nice! She looks very kickass :p

Astor_Kaine, it does look great with colour! The face seems a bit out of alignment, but I love the purple on his mask and cape :D

igyman, thanks!:p Nice colours and cool lightsaber shinyness! :p The folds on his robes look a little off, and his waist is awfully small (dammit, makes me so envious :P), but overall looks great!
