SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (June 21, 2007)—SEGA© of America, Inc., SEGA® Europe, Ltd., and Canada-based developer studio BioWare® Corp. today announced a partnership to create a new video game based on the classic SEGA flagship icon Sonic The Hedgehog. The exact name of the game is undetermined, and it will ship in 2008.

"BioWare is one of the hottest names in RPG development in the world," said Simon Jeffery, President and COO, SEGA of America, Inc. "Everyone at SEGA has huge confidence that Sonic is in the safest of hands, and that BioWare can create the ultimate handheld RPG experience for gamers of all ages."Link: SEGA ANNOUNCES BIOWARE WILL CREATE SONIC ROLE PLAYING GAME FOR THE NINTENDO DS (http://www.bioware.com/bioware_info/press_releases/2007_06_21_Sonic_DS/)

:eyeraise: Eh? Well this is a new direction for BioWare. Of course anybody that has been keeping track of BioWare news knows that BioWare announced last September that they had formed a handheld division. Now we know what game they're making, who they're making the game for, and on what handheld platform. In any case, I'm not that big on the idea of handheld RPG's but I'm interested in seeing if there is much interest in RPG's with the DS crowd. :D

"Horray! Sonic just gained a level. His Speed has gone up +1 and his jumping skill has gone up +2!"

"What about your other stats?"

"Other stats? There is only Speed and Jumping in this Sonic RPG!"

:) (Has Sonic jumped the shark? Well, that last two Sonic game did get some low ratings...)

ugh, I think I am going to be sick. thanks to Sega, we may finally be able to chalk up a flop for Bioware in when this comes out.

To paraphrase Elton John, it's like tryin' to find gold in a silver mine...
