View Full Version : [K1] WIP Twilek Playable Character

Hi this is my first WIP mod for Knights of the Old Republic, it adds two new head options one for a female twilek, which has modified underwear to match the traditional twilek style aswell as the skintone.

And a male equivalent which has recoloured but not modified underwear.

http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/6528/twilekheadsez2.th.jpg (http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/6528/twilekheadsez2.jpg)

They both have transitions to the dark side gradually turning Red in colour, and gaining sith tatoos.

I may modify it before release so I'm marking it as a WIP atm, and what do you think?.

I worked out a little backstory for why the Twileks change from green to red during the fall to the dark side:

A Twilek with a red skin tone known cannonly as a Lethan Twilek, which is caused by a mutation in their genetic code.

It is my theory that the mutation was originally caused by exposure to the dark side in the same way that the humans appearance decays, and that the future Lethan Twileks are decendents of the corrupted Twileks.

Another idea that I had was that the mutation was caused by the Ancient Sith to make their appearance more like the sith species.

I have not abandoned this I'm currently working on a Rodian Playable Character, though it is taking a while because I have to skin the Rodian Model for each type of Armor and Clothing, sofar I've managed to do most of the Light Armor.

Obviously because the Rodian model is a single model he will not have darkside transitions.

Also I'm having a problem getting him to appear when he is in his underwear.

Here are a few shots of him sofar in the Soldier Uniform and a Combat Suit:

That looks cool, I was going to do a Rodian PC mod a while ago but I decided against it because of the DS transitions.

But good job, I like it :D

I was always disappointed by the lack of alien 'heads' in both games. I never thought anyone would take it this far. Again, nicely done, these skins look great.

Hey, aren't Rodians supposed to be green?

- Ghost Down

Thanatos9t
07-30-2007, 10:17 AM
According to Star Wars Wookieepedia Rodians typically had green skin, although variation in skin pigmentation was common, ranging from blue through to orange. Though very rare, some Rodians had a white pigmentation. This was distinctive among the race and could give rise to various appellations, such as "Jannik the White", "Evo the Blue." or Navik the Red.

What I find funny is that there is a Reeven Clan among the various clans. I wonder if that is just a coincidence, or was Revan a rodian lol.

I'm still busy at work on this pack which at the moment features a Rodian (Male) and a Male and Female Twilek, Due to the amount of skins for the rodian the pack will be quite large compaired to a normal add head mod.
Here is a shot of my recent progress on the light armor for the rodian:

This looks real good.
Actually, I tried to do this myself, but without the darkside transitions, and only a female Twi'lek. I liked the end result, a bit, but 'tis nothing compared to this.
Have you made these textures from scratch? They do look like it.
If they are, they're very well done.
Nevertheless, this is a mod to look forward to.
Personally, I prefer the male Twi'lek's darkside transitions more than the female's. Don't know why, but they seem more natural.
The Rodian is a real nice thing too, godd work.

Yeah, but the female's final ds transition reminds me of Darth Talon (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Talon) from the Legacy comics (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Legacy) and that's always a good thing ;)

(I am aware that a Darth Talon mod already exists)

Yeah, I used Darth Talon (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Talon) for the bases for the female Sith Twilek and Darth Ruyn (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Ruyn) for the male Sith Twilek, with small hints of Darth Maul (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Maul).

Yeah I am also aware that a Darth Talon mod already exists, though if I remember correctly its for K2.

It is for TSL. I only added that line in an attempt to stop the "There is a Darth Talon mod" replies and keep the topic on the amazing work being done here.

As far as the Rodian...
Were you able to use the existing armor/robe skins for anything but a reference? Or were these all drawn completely from scratch?

Yes, I thought she was familiar. Although I have not read the Legacy Comics yet, maybe never will :)

Yeah, I used Darth Talon for the bases for the female Sith Twilek and Darth Ruyn for the male Sith Twilek, with small hints of Darth Maul.

But I still like the DS-transitions for the male, because the female's transition looks like a make-up session gone wrong.
Don't get me wrong, I can't do better, and it looks good, but... Well, I think it looks like a messed up make-up session. At least the middle female head (http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/6528/twilekheadsez2.jpg) looks like that. But still, it's a good job nonetheless, and since you are the maker of the mod, I should not complain. ;)

Were you able to use the existing armor/robe skins for anything but a reference? Or were these all drawn completely from scratch?

I used the original textures and mapped them onto the Rodian skin, where I could though I had to texture some parts manually as they didn't fit the Rodian model.

Any chance you might do the Trandoshans Lizards aswell :D ?

I don't know why I did it but I just skinned a forth alien species to resemble the clothing of the Jedi.

So now that makes the Twilek and Rodian fully playable, including armors. The Trandoshans and Aqualish (Aka the Walrusmen) as single costume aliens.

I may be alone in this, but I've always been disappointed with the generic dark jedi and the Darth Bandon fight with the two generic thugs. You'd probably have to 'evil them up' a bit, but you could use those characters to add a little more variety/depth to some of (what I consider) the more stale fights in the game.

Thanatos9t
08-31-2007, 06:48 PM
I may give that a go once I've finsihed playing around, with the different species.

Here are my latest recruits to the jedi order:
The Selkath Jedi: (NPC basic battle animations, no force animations)
http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/5526/jediselkathqq3.th.jpg (http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/5526/jediselkathqq3.jpg)

http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/5613/jediwookieew7.th.jpg (http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/5613/jediwookieew7.jpg)

I know :) but still I think that even K1 robes could look good with good texture. The ones in the screenshot seem to need just some work to finish them to fit a Wookiee.
But I agree that not everyone will want to play a Wookiee in Jedi robe so it should be just an option (in example: if I want to equip a Jedi robe on my Wookiee PC it should have 'special Wookiee texture' :) ).

Very nice work!

I quite like the robed Selkath, even though I didn't particularly care for the Selkath in K1, you've got to figure, there has to be atleast some decent Selkath becoming Jedi, if there are so many that are force sensitive.

I don't suppose anything can be done about the animations?

errrr.....I have some ideas, one is to make the female model for each race
P.D.:an idea is make a bit shorter the male one and use the tga(I'm not sure if that are the textures)of the fermale model
P.D. of the P.D.:can you make the kaminoan(it's ok, well the people of kamino from swII)with the animations of the wookies that are taller.
P.D. of the P.D. of the P.D.:the kaminoans can't use armors, only clothes that are designed for they(example: kaminoan robes race restriction:kaminoan defense bonus:+3

I Forgot to ask if you can make it for K2 with the dancer outfit for alien fermales

Whoa I should really check this board more often, I'm glad that people are still interested in this mod, I've just started University so I'm a bit busy atm, but fear not the mods not dead.

As for the animation problems the Wookiee's do not have any as Zaalbar can use all of the fighting styles and force power animations, so that means that the standard wookie can aswell.

Selkath on the other hand do not have conventional weapon animations, insead they fight with melee weapons as if they were unarmed, so they use their claws to swing at the oponent in a clubing type maner.

They do not have force animations nor weapon drawing animations. But for some reason they can use dual handed guns and a single blaster and can do basic attacks using them.

Unfortunatly I lack the skill to export/import models into KoToR, though I wondered if the Selkath problem could be fixed by importing the model onto one of the other character bases such as the wookiee and rigging the model to the Wookiee's joints.

Its almost impossible to do that and quite insane

The importing and refitting the model to the wookie skeleton would be a long task , not so impossible .

Its the Importing in the gamethat's the hard part , if I'm right MDLops doesn't handle animation well or more propebly NOT at all .

I don't think there's any Tool avaible that handles animations for Kotor...

Or , unless we know what "Master"bone file the Selkath use , someone could try to add the animations there . THis would give some other models the nessacery animations aswell . ( But your still your stuck with that Importing )

And don't look at me ;) , Rigging a Mesh is hard task to do , with lots fun redoing of weird buggy and glitchy animations .

Welcome back :). I've been really hoping that you'd re-start this mod. I'd hate to see you put in all that work, and then never finish it. So far they're all looking pretty good. The only comment I have so far is that some of the Jedi robes (especially the Trandoshan) look like they are wearing brown shorts over tan pants. Perhaps if they just tucked thier robe tops into thier pants? I know that it's because of the limitations of the in-game model. Well at the moment the Rodian has 52 model textures which are:
Normal Clothes:3
Armor C: 7
Armor D: 8
Armor E: 8
Armor F: 7
Armor G: 6
Armor H: 7
Jedi Clothes: 4
Starforge/Revan Robes: 2

He still needs his unequipped clothes so thats 3 more 1 for each type.
Aswell as his portrait pictures so 1 normal and 4 transitions.
Thats 9 more textures.

So in total the rodian will come with 61 texture files.

Ok when working on the darkside underwear variations I noticed a bug in KoToR, when doing the Rodian Scoundrel darkside underwear I extracted the male eqivelent one which should be pmbasd01 as pmbas01 is the standard non darkside one:

http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/4638/pmbasd01qc6.th.jpg (http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/4638/pmbasd01qc6.jpg)
what I found is apparently Saul Karath's clothes instead... which leads to a rather messed up looking darkside scoundrel underwear body, due to the different UV maps.

I wonder could anyone else verify that it is a mistake with KoToR and not my version, considering I have a vanilla install of KoToR, apart from my alien character mods.

Ferc Kast
04-25-2008, 07:12 AM
I just researched that problem. I started a new game as a male scoundrel and cheated to become darkside. It isn't just you with that problem. Apparently, it's a mistake with KotOR itself.

Thanatos9t
04-25-2008, 07:24 AM
Man that was a quick response, thanks Ferc Kast :) I wonder why that has gone unnoticed for so long, though I suppose later in the game you don't exactly want to be walking around in your underwear...

Now that does leave the question what do I do with my Scoundrel Rodians underwear? I suppose I could make him look like Saul :xp:

Yeah, I had that problem too. If you check out my [K1] New DS Underwear for Bastila & PCs (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=182115) mod, I've already made a new texture for the DS male scoundrel. Go ahead and use that one as a base for your Rodian if you like :)

Edit: Although, since the DS underwear are all so similar, you could probably re-use one of the other ones that you've already modified for your Rodian. You wouldn't even have to re-name the tga, just copy the text entry in the 2da file for texaevil. For mine, the Soldier and Scoundrel are really similar; the only difference is the stripe on the hips.

What I ended up doing after noticing how similar the Soldiers underwear was to the darkside version, was taking the standard Scoundrel Underwear and applying the colour to the parts that were grey before I then brightened the red and put on the Starforge logo and added a sleeve from one of my other darkside versions:

Cool to see an update on this mod.

I'm still looking forward to the full package :p

Cheers !

Hmmm.... Maybe Revan really wasn't a human...

Now, this could create some problems with the Bastilla/Carth Romance stuff though... Can you imagine her kissing him? That's almost the stuff of nightmares!

Anyway, it looks very nice, and good luck with the rest of the textures!

Time for my annual update (Almost seems like it):
I have got a new computer now as my younger brothers fried the one I used to work on.

Thanks to redrob41 for testing my Rodian PC and giving feedback. I have been able to get the shaders working on the Rodian which meant I have had to update all of the skins that used the metal effect shader.

There are some minor cosmetic changes done to the skins since my last post. Some of the light and medium armours have had the hand guard removed while the heavy armours have had the guard colour adjusted to the hue of the armour.

My favourite one is the Mandalorian armour which looks as if it has a different model to the normal space suited Rodian.

I'm glad to see that you've taken up the cause once again. The Rodian screenshots are looking pretty good. At first I thought the PMBG armours looked a little awkward around the shoulder joints. Then I took a look at the original textures, and they seem to have that cloth bit between the shoulder plate and chest plate, so it's supposed to be like that. Still, you might want to consider widening the chest plate a bit (just so the "point" of the cloth is outside the "raised strap" of the Rodian model). You can see it best in the PMBG01 version (I hope that makes sense ).

All the rest look great. Nice touch around the wrist guards. Can't wait :D

Yeah the Twilek playable characters will be released together. As for the Rodian he will be in a pack all by himself, frankly due to the filesize of all of his clothing variations.

The Alien Jedi I may release as a stand alone texture pack as a sort of resource for modders who don't want to or lack the skill to reskin one of the alien characters.

Yeah I noticed that when testing the skins myself but I haven't got around to widening them yet although I have now redone all of the shoulderpads for the G Armour's for the Rodian so that they go down onto the arms of the character like the human textures.

Here is a shot of the before and after images:
