Well first you are being very general what exactly are you trying to mod what parts as there are many things under how to mod. More of what are you trying to accomplish exactly.
Also is this for Kotor 1 or Kotor 2 as there are some big differences.

well i wanna make new planets and stuff so i need to no like wat files mean wat planets and i mean for kotor 1

ok for new planets here is what you need to know from the link given earlier read Getting started with modding: Tools + downloads then Travelling to custom planets in KotOR for the actual modules you go to there are mutiple files that do mutiple things. In Kotor Tool you want to look at the modules they are in the rim files for example end_m01aa.rim is the first endar spire module. I don't think anyone has created an exact how to for module editing Kotor tool has a module editor but only a handful of maps have been released for Kotor 1 there are more for Kotor 2 then for Kotor 1. That means for Kotor 1 you need to do alot of gff editing for example the module.git contains info on were triggers, placeables and such are in the module. If I get a few moments and decide to I might write a tutorial but it is not very easy if Kotor tool does not have the map for the module you want to use.
Found the New Module Tutorial at http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=130451 it is a little older it suggests the old gff editor I suggest kgff and old dialog editing you can use the Kotor Tool conversation editor or my favorite dlgeditor. Go to the page read it then click download to go to the site and download the guide.
