1.0b Patch for KotOR II causes game to crash immediately

Yesterday I decided to clean out my Override folder and start fresh, since a lot of the stuff in there was from a year or two ago and I didn't remember what I had. While I was collecting new mods, I noticed there was a 1.0b patch for KotOR II and decided to install that as well.
Once I installed it, I would launch the game and a few seconds later get an error saying KotOR II had to close without the game itself actually attempting to load (visually, anyways). I tried taking out my Override folder completely to see if some mod was messing it up, but the same thing occurred. I even tried taking my old saves out, wondering if since I did not get some of my old mods the game couldn't load them and messed up. Still no go.
While I reinstalled it and it works fine now (without the patch), I was wondering what went wrong. I think I might like the patch, especially the fix where Atton appears in his cage in the Telos Academy and not on the floor two rooms away- that always annoyed me. I read the comments on KotOR Files (where I downloaded it), and a couple of people mentioned getting the older patch first but did not provide any link or even any other information about it.
So, my question is: where is said earlier patch? Or, will just going to update on the launcher correctly patch my game fully without errors? Thanks.

Try uninstalling the game and then reinstalling, patch it to 1.0b and get the bugfixes on the team-gizka.org bugfix page. It should run fine then.

I know it's a rather unimaginative fix, but it should work.

I might try that. Today I tried updating through the launcher, not downloading the .exe directly, and the same error happened. So I had to reinstall yet again.
Maybe it's not worth it after all...

KotOR's updater is broken, AFAIK. Just DL the patch and save it. That way it will be on hand if this happens again. I don't even want to admit how many times I've had to reinstall both KotORs because I screwed something up when playing with mods. :xp:

And be sure to check out TG's bugfixes. Some of them are quite necessary, as the patch actually creates new bugs that aren't present in the unpatched game. KotOR 2 is practically abandonware. :(

On LucasArts.com, they say that you need to install patch 1.0a before 1.0b if you are running an international version.
