You need NWMax which is a plug-in for Gmax.
Get it here: http://nwmax.dladventures.com/download/NWmax-gmax-v07_setup.exe

Use KT to extract the .mdl file you want to use, then with MDLOps you convert the .mdl file you extracted into an ascii-mdl. Run Gmax, with the NWMax plug-in installed, and import the ascii-mdl.

Note: KT can also convert some of the .mdl files into ascii-mdl. However, for me it does not work with every model. So I just use KT to extract the .mdl file (as mentioned above) and the MDLOps to convert the file into an ascii-mdl.

You can get MDLOps here: http://www.starwarsknights.com/tools.php

Good luck! :)
