Well...the epidemic started while TeddyGate was in full swing, you know.

The mortality rate for Ebola is brutal. Over half, and up to nearly 90%, will die from the virus.

it's not surprising. Eating habits are terrible, living conditions are worse. Death, destruction, strife and suffering are rampant in Africa. There's not much that can be done, protect your own country is about all you can do.

I wouldn't be surprised if something in Africa was the death of us all.

Well, saying its not surprising is an understatement, and it won't help solve the problem. I guess the current its time to revise how foreign aids should be applied to such regions. Obviously its not enough to stop dangerous virus from spreading. Maybe a different tactic should be used.

Call it selfish if you will. But I do agree we all might need to give people in those regions more help, if only to prevent outbreaks from dangerous diseases ... Its not just bad for them... it might spread to the more civilized places.

But seriously, when i see the title, its like something that comes from pop-ups in games like "civilization" or "simcity" I can almost see the animation of the four horsemen running accross the screen. So surreal.

There's quite a bit of research into Ebola because it's a. so deadly and b. it can be weaponized, making it of great interest to the entire world.

The problem is they haven't tracked down the source of the virus yet, so getting rid of it is the hard part.

b. it can be weaponized, making it of great interest to the entire world. That the part that scares the hell out of me. If it is ever weaponized why would whoever weaponized allow the innocent the cure (if the found one during their research to produce a weapon), because that would end the usefulness of their new toy.

We should do everything possible to help these people and any other outbreak. When in comes to preemptive strikes dealing with this there makes way more since then waiting for it to spread across the world. Finding a cure as quickly as possible will prevent someone from turning it into a weapon.

and general info from wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebola).Why would someone make a Ebola Virus cuddly toy?

I thought they found that it lived in the mud of various parts of Africa?

I read somewhere that they think the fruit bat is the most likely vector, but it's hard to nail down because people die before the researchers can get enough information to trace it.

Yeah, struck me as odd, too. Almost would be interesting to see what person thought that idea up.
