Is it possible to skin a clothing, such as Malak's clothing, to have a transparent part?
or do you have to model for that?

For my example, I want to get rid of the flaps hanging down from Malak's belt. IS there a way to skin them to be transparent, or no?

If you go to the thread Do you Want to mod SW-KotOR? Then Start here.Mod Tutorials! (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=124284&). About halfway down under Texture Reskinning there is a link called "PS texture editing: Making Alpha channels". It's a pretty good tutorial that should cover what you're looking for.

There are a lot of helpful tutorials on that thread by T7nowhere, and it's usually the thread I start with when I've got a question.

I hope that helps :D

Okay, I don't think that works.
Seeing as it turns Malak's body into that of a Sith armor texture.

that's what I'm trying to get rid of.

I checked a few different tutorials on that page you directed me to, but they all pretty much do the same thing.

I didn't do any reskins/textures for Kotor and I am speaking out of ignorance for the most part but I do remember Seprithro making the soldier backpack disappea using transparency back in 2004. I think he played with alpha channels ( black is transparent and white is opaque).

I've tried messing with that.

It just doesn't work.
All it does is turn Malak's whole body into what looks like the Sith armor.

Any other ideas?

Then you likely messed something up because that is what was done by Sep to make something transparent.

Avol did a Malak Armor Reskin for his Darth Vader mod. And it doesn't has these things. So he had to remove it but I do not know how.

It may have something to do with what shader is being used on the model("envmap" column in appearance.2da). I'm assuming you mean it is making the parts shiny, right?

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure you can make an alpha for the flaps and then apply "punchthrough" (see wookie textures) via the .txi.

Yeah, that's right. I just checked the envmap column for Malak, and it is CM_Baremetal (for shiny armor). If you change it to Default (transparent), then Malak's metal jaw and some tiny bits of his armor will become slightly transparent as well, since the Alpha 1 channel for his head and body tga files already have some light grey in them. I guess to use the alpha method, you'd have to change the whole Alpha 1 to 0% (white), then change his flaps to 100% black. The .tga file would look something like this on the Alpha 1 channel:
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/7845/ndarthmalak01sl8.jpg

Unfortunately it would mean that you'd have to change the Alpha 1 for his head to all white, and his jaw would no longer shine like metal.

The only other method I can think of would require editing the model, but your first post sounded like you wanted to avoid that.

Sorry about leading you astray, I forgot to check the envmap earlier :(

Well, if someone could walk me through it a little clearer than the tutorials svosh wrote, I'd be very grateful.
