Encounters are a special type of trigger that can be used to spawn (usually hostile) creatures into the area when the player trips it. Encounters can hold a leveled list of creature templates the game will randomly spawn creatures from (up to the specified amount). The encounter also specifies one or several spawn locations where the enemies can appear (I think the game picks the one the farthest away from the player party). They can be set to be one-shot, or to reactivate again after a cooldown period.

Encounter triggers aren't used very often in the Kotor games though since most enemies are either pre-placed in the areas or spawned by quests.

Your are NOT a secret developer who worked on this game by chance?
