Well in my regular check-ups on dead companies I found that the Interplay website... (http://www.interplay.com/) has changed!

The Codex (http://www.rpgcodex.net/index.php#5083) is saying that Black Isle Studios is one of the keywords for the site but I haven't been able to verify that.

No doubt this is in preparation for that Fallout MMO. I still like the way they sold the rights to it in order to make a game with said rights that were licensed back to them : /. Perhaps someone should play them this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oZYqAeIdYk)?

It's good stuff. The old school Starfleet Command games used to dominate my nights back in school.

Interplay for sale... sold (http://smartmoney.brand.edgar-online.com/fetchFilingFrameset.aspx?FilingID=5826123&Type=HTML)

"Financial Planning and Development S.A." has just bought 56% of Titus Interactive's (also bankrupt...) shares -- the company that owns the majority of Interplay.

Anyone else think "Financial Planning and Development S.A." sounds too generic to be clean? :p

On March 21, 2008 the Chief Executive Officer and Interim Chief Financial Officer, Herve Caen, received a letter providing written notice of there having been a change in control of the registrant. According to such letter, Financial Planning and Development S.A., a Luxembourg company ("FPD"), acquired the holding of approximately 58 million shares of common stock of the registrant, representing approximately 56% of the outstanding shares of capital stock of the registrant, previously held by Titus Interactive S.A. (in bankruptcy) ("Titus") on April 30, 2007 in a private sale by the bankruptcy trustee of Titus. The amount of the consideration paid for such holding by FPD is not known to the registrant. The source of the funds used for the acquisition is not known to the registrant. There were and are no arrangements or understandings with respect to election of directors or other matters of the registrant, known to the registrant. There are no arrangements, known to the registrant, including any pledge by any person of securities of the registrant or any parent, the operation of which may at a subsequent date result in a change in control of the registrant.

What effect will the buying of Interplay's rotting corpse have on the Fallout MMO that Interplay were going to develop? Who knows? I don't, do you?

Maybe they'll buy Obsidian and then Avellone will stop acting like he got smashed over the head with the Moron Stick.

Oooh! Never knew that key words were in the source code. Cheers!

I thought interplay died something like 3 years ago, or am I thinking of PowerPlay?

I believe its creditors turned foul and filed it for Chapter 7. I'm not sure where that went, though.

Interplay is developing a new MMO version of its Fallout franchise – after 'borrowing' the rights back to its old licence from current franchise-owner Bethesda.

Now I don't play MMO at all, but I think the Fallout world would be perfect for one.

Thanks Sabretooth for the heads up.

Source (http://www.interplay.com/)

Interplay, father company of Black Isle (developers of classics such as Fallout 2 and Planescape: Torment), have updated their website (http://www.interplay.com/) and evidently moved out of their cardboard box into an office.

Founded in 1983, Interplay Entertainment is a developer, publisher and licensor of video game software headquartered in Southern California.

Interplay is best known for its successful titles in the Role-Playing Game (RPG) genre with hits like Fallout® 1 & 2, Planescape: Torment and the Baldur's Gate series."
