View Full Version : The Apprentice's name

I remember reading on a thread somewhere around here that it had been leaked the Apprentice's name started with an "S". That led to some discussion about it being "Starkiller", or Luke's alter-ego had he turned DS in Episode VI.

I just read this on the Soulcalibur IV wiki:

A recent trailer reveals that Starkiller, Darth Vader's secret apprentice from Lucasarts' upcoming video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be included as a playable character on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions

I don't know if it's incorrect, already been released, or an accidental leak confirming the name, but I thought I'd share anyway.

Here's the link. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soulcalibur_IV)

EDIT:
Maybe it's more common knowledge that I thought - I found this on TFU wiki:

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed tells the story of Darth Vader's secret apprentice, Starkiller, as he hunts down the Jedi remaining after Emperor Palpatine orders them killed.[7] Set in the dark times between Episode III and Episode IV, the story explores the aftermath of the Great Jedi Purge as well as the rise of Darth Vader, leading into the Original Trilogy.[1]

I wouldn't make a big deal out of it, if you know what I mean. For all we know, the same person might have written both articles, and I don't think that dude in particular knows any more than we do. :)

Yeah... at first (when I had only read the Soulcalibur IV wiki), I thought someone at SIV had accidentally leaked something that the TFU guys didn't want him to... but then after reading the TFU wiki I think you're probably right.

Perhaps it was because his last name was the start of a sentence? ;)

I read other places poeple are starting to call the apprentice Starkiller, but I don't really know...

Confirmation! Cool.

I will only 100% believe it once LA announces it, or that is what it says in the game....

I don't get how it can be a confirmation in any way.

God, Starkiller really sounds like a cheesy name

I have to be honest, I'm not a big fan of 'Starkiller'. It sounds like a silly name - and it doesn't really say 'Secret' either. They maybe should have stuck with just 'Apprentice', like the KOTOR series - him not having a name would add to the mystery.

PoiuyWired
06-10-2008, 01:05 PM
Well, the name does not have to sound "secret" or it would be something like "bob stealth" or "cardboard box" or things like that.

Astor
06-10-2008, 01:10 PM
True, but out of the doubtless hundreds of names they could have used, they used 'Starkiller'.

I maybe should have phrased it a bit better. 'Subtle' would have been a better word than secret. It's just that Starkiller is about as unsubtle as you could get for a character whose very existence is only apparently known by around six people.

M@RS

Starkiller, is okay, I've said it before, but I will say it again, Starkiller should've been named Draefund, it means hunter, and in the TFU, I think he'll be hunting down jedi and other people...

Gurges-Ahter

The only problem I have with "Starkiller" is that it's been used before.

M@RS
06-10-2008, 03:42 PM
It has?

Astor
06-10-2008, 03:47 PM
I'm not sure if its been used before, but the original draft for Star Wars saw a character called Annikin Starkiller - who would later turn into Luke Skywalker.

I also know that Starkiller, is what Luke would have been had he joined Vader and Sidious

I also know that Starkiller, is what Luke would have been had he joined Vader and SidiousI don't think thats literal, I think they're saying more that the apprentice is what Luke would be like had he chosen the Dark side, hence giving him a name that was originally meant for Luke. I don't believe Starkiller has ever made it into Star Wars before.

Bendak Starkiller.

Bendak Starkiller.Damn I forgot about that one, and that was even mentioned earlier wasn't it.

Gurges-Ahter
06-10-2008, 08:37 PM
Yeah Bendak is what I was thinking of, and I think there's even been a couple more (Banol Starkiller and Pashna Starkiller in Galaxies). I don't know if those count though.

Starkiller?

That's...kind of lame in my opinion, I would've preferred something less Skywalker-ish.

Gurges-Ahter
06-10-2008, 08:49 PM
Before I declare it lame I will need to know his backstory in full. I wish they had picked something that hand't been used before, but if the story fits then I'm ok with it. I think the key will be finding out who his mother is (if he really is the son of Kento).

**Update: I just read this on the Starkiller wiki**
Vader's apprentice is the main protagonist of the video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. His name is reported to be Starkiller but it was stated by Adam Kahn (Senior PR Manager at LucasArts) that it is just a code name. His real name is yet to be revealed.

Jason Skywalker
06-11-2008, 04:49 AM
Well, that's comforting. Starkiller is just a too much irregular first name.

Gurges-Ahter
06-11-2008, 09:04 AM
If his name were Starkiller, I'd assume that it would be his last name.

M@RS
06-11-2008, 11:25 AM
Yeah, I wonder what his first name is, it's probably some really, totally strange name that we'll never get ...

Yeah, I wonder what his first name is, it's probably some really, totally strange name that we'll never get ...

Like Qui-gon for example?

But it probably is going to something really outlandish, considering that Episodes 1-3 were chock full of crazy names, while the original trilogy had fairly normal names. It's the direction that lucas wants it to go.

Jason Skywalker

It's just that Starkiller is such an orthodox name to call a person.

"Oh, hey, it's Guy A!
"Oh, hey! How's it going Starkiller?"

M@RS
06-11-2008, 03:46 PM
Starkiller = Guy B  why don't they save us the pain and name him John Smith?

Really I don't care what his name is all that much, although it's fun to speculate. I just hope TFU has a good story line, and I believe it will.

M@RS
06-11-2008, 06:03 PM
Yes, a good plot, storyline, and settings, I would like to fight on Kashyyyk, that would be fun...Also cool moves for "starkiller" to pull off while fighting, and his name should have at least some meaning...

Before I declare it lame I will need to know his backstory in full.

Naw, you don't need to know his whole childhood to tell that his name sounds bad.

Gurges-Ahter

Naw, you don't need to know his whole childhood to tell that his name sounds bad.
I think in this case you do need to know his background, since they are using a name that is related to the roots of Star Wars (Starkiller being Luke's original last name). However, if Starkiller is only a code name as I later posted, this point is moot.

Serpentine Cougar

While Starkiller may indeed work as a name, I think it detracts from it if you have to be familiar with the connection to Luke for it to make sense or be cool. I mean, probably a lot of the people who're going to play the game won't be "hardcore Star Wars fan" enough to research the history of the name. So if the coolness of the name is merely based on that, perhaps they should have picked something else.

M@RS
06-14-2008, 12:12 AM
Hmm, I wonder if anyone (besides us) are nerdy enough to look up the whole back story, yeah, I agree with Serpentine for sure...

Do not invoke the name of Norris in Vein... :)

Btw, epic characters don't always have a cool sounding name to begin with. That is exactly why Siths have their Sith names. I mean, think Darth Bane.

Yep. That's the name. I don't have the novel, but I'm pretty sure that's his name in the novel.

Great Scott!

I like Starkiller, nobody else in the Star Wars universe has a name similar enough to Skywalker from what I know, and I remember reading the original drafts of the first movie and thinking it'd be interesting to call a character Starkiller. Just think of it like a codename, I don't see why it bothers everybody, I think it's pretty cool.

Jacob Nion

He has gone by so many names. It started out as The Appintace, Screat Apprintace, Starkiller (one of my faviorates), then Jacob Nion and finally his real name is Galen Marek. It says it right in the Fore Unleashed novel.
