View Full Version : [WIP] The Exile's Uniform

Okay, So i've tried my hand at a simple reskin, now for something a little more complex:

Jedi General's Uniform

This mod will add a new robe to the game. This robe will be the Exile's old uniform from when they fought in the Mandalorian Wars - I think a General should have some kind of uniform. It basically combines a Jedi Master's robe with some Republic armour.

It will have a few stat bonuses to it, but nothing too overpowering.

Work so far:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v734/Craig_Bean05/uniformtest.jpg

As you can see, it's still very much WIP. I've still got to change the pants, and add some gauntlets to the gloves, and see what's causing the collar to look strange.

ETA: No idea!

Wow, i'm liking this.

I'll certainly keep an eye on this.

It actually reminds me of the jedi armor that Kenobi wore in the clone wars cartoon.

I like it so far. Keep it up.

The biggest two things are the collar and groin regions.

Looks like he's wearing a codpiece

Seriously though, looking good. :) The collar and groin need work though. ;)

Looks great; However, I must agree with EW about the two regions he mentioned.

Don't worry, as fetching as he looks with a great codpiece like that, I am planning on having him wear standard issue military trousers!

Wow, nice :)
I also had this idea while I was camping the last few days, but you beat me to it. You should make this mod, but before releasing it, make ANOTHER set of robes for Exar Kun, which should be DS only, and using either Kun's armor or Sith Armor (Without a helmet. I doubt that the model used for the Sith Armor has a head underneath, but I wouldn't know :))

Astor
06-20-2008, 12:57 PM
Okay, fixed the collar, and added guard plates to the gloves. All that's really left is recolor the trousers.

I'm thinking about adding some gold bands to the end of the sleeves. Would that be too grand for a Jedi?

I'm still working on the pants - they're harder than I thought they would be. :)

I think you should add this and just check how this looking.

Finished the pants... They don't look too bad, and it definately looks a lot better.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v734/Craig_Bean05/General.jpg

They don't have much detail, but given how dark they are i'm tempted to leave it off. I may also see whether some darker brown pants would look good too.

Now I just need to read the tutorials on creating new items...

Thanks, SS! Technically, it's my second 'mod' but the first was just a reskin, whereas i'm actually going to make this a brand new item, so that should be an interesting ride. And I wouldn't say it's natural talent, but I do know my way round GIMP and Photoshop, so that definately helps!

For the moment i'm thinking about making the 'Jedi General's Robe' available from Daraala (you know, the Salvager Merchant outside the Dantooine enclave). It makes sense that maybe they find one in the ruins :). And of course, I'll see about making available in a few other places too :).

I have to say i'm surprised and grateful at all the support i've recieved from all you guys, it's really helped to keep my interest knowing that there's people who'll want to see this finished!

Thanks, Astor

Don't worry, It was one of the first things that popped into my mind after I looked at it - so yes, I don't see why not. It's basically just a reskin of a reskin after all.

EDIT: I was also thinking of doing a generic 'Jedi Armour', with differing shades of brown instead of the bright colours in the other ones. What do you all think?

But a quick question: Where were you intending to put these in-game? I thought that the Exile's quarters on the Harbinger would be an adequate place, but that's just me.

JediMaster76

I agree with Robespierre. That would be a very good place to put it. If not there, then maybe at the Dantooine Enclave? Either way, this mod reskin looks AWESOME. I'm impressed. You certainly do know your way around photoshop :) Keep up the good work.

Another WIP shot... This time of the 'Jedi Investigator's' Robe:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v734/Craig_Bean05/TSFWIP.jpg

As you can see, a long way to go, but at least all the ground work has been done thanks to the first one.

And here's some possible item descriptions i've been mulling over:

Jedi General's Robe

This combination of armour and robes were worn by many Jedi Commanders during both the Mandalorian Wars and the Jedi Civil War. It combines both the uniform of the Republic and traditional Jedi garments to denote their service to both.

Jedi Investigator's Robe

This uniform once belonged to a Jedi Knight on special assignment to the TSF. It is certain to have struck fear into the hearts of criminals on Citadel Station.

This has to be one of the best robe re-skins for TSL that i've seen, if not THE best one.

I'm thinking this mod will be a permanent resident in my override.

Astor

Okay, almost finished the TSF variant armour - just the pants and then it'll be about finished. Here's the progress so far:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v734/Craig_Bean05/UNIFORM.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v734/Craig_Bean05/tsf.jpg

I think that this robe will simply be available from the TSF lockers, so you can get them pretty early - along with the rest of your equipment after your release from custody. Does that sound right?

Darth Payne
06-21-2008, 11:21 AM
Or you could make them the reward for one or more of the tasks you do for Grenn.

Looking Very Very Good btw.

EnderWiggin
06-21-2008, 11:51 AM
They're both looking great.

As to where you get them - that's a good idea.
Aren't the tasks you do for Grenn LS only (for him to give you rewards I mean)? If so, you might want to keep it alignment neutral by putting them in the lockers.

_EW_

Astor
06-21-2008, 12:06 PM
That's kind of what I was thinking. The actuals skins are now complete, here's a comparison. As you can see, i've also changed the collars from the default brown to colours more suited to each one. Guess which is which :xp::

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v734/Craig_Bean05/REPTSF.jpg

All I need to do now is have them created as new items, and work out how to place them where I want them. This'll be the hardest part, I think - luckily there's some good tutorials on .UTIs and such to help me out.

Astor

Okay, I've been looking at the tutorials and everything, and I have the GFF editor etc, but I have absolutely no idea what to do to add these as separate items.

Can anyone explain in clear detail what I need to do?

JCarter426
06-21-2008, 03:58 PM
Just find a robe item in KT (BIFs--> Templates--> Blueprint, Item-->a_robe_02, for example) and double-click. Then edit its properties and description to your liking, and be sure to change its tag and ResRef (give it a unique name), just to be safe. Also change the texture variation to any number you want that isn't used--87, for example. Then save it under a unique name and put it in the Override folder. Then go back and rename your textures so they have the same number suffix as the texture variation number you used.

Repeat for another item using a different texture variation number, tag, ResRef, and item name.

EDIT: Carter Beat Me -_-

Astor
06-21-2008, 04:04 PM
Thanks, JC. I didn't realise it was that easy!

EDIT: What, if any bonuses should I give each of them? The General's robe has a defense bonus of 4, and regen fp of 1. I think it could maybe do with something else, but i'm not sure.

And i've no idea about bonuses for the TSF version.

Astor

JCarter426
06-21-2008, 04:46 PM
Ah, no problem. :)

Bonuses? Maybe some VP regen to go along with the FP, and a Wisdom boost. Energy resistance would be useful too.

As for the TSF...well, if it was worn by a Jedi Investigator, so how about an Intelligence boost?

Darth Payne
06-21-2008, 04:48 PM
I always like strength boosts.

Astor
06-21-2008, 04:54 PM
Okay, so let's say +2 wisdom, vp regen 2, energy resistance 15?

and for the TSF, defense of 4, fp regen 1 and an Int bonus of +2, energy resistance of 10? (my theory here is that TSF armor isn't built to the same resistant standards a proper military gear)

Ferc Kast

Looks good. Here's a tip for your uniforms items: Remember to set the BaseItem to Jedi Knight Robe. (Otherwise, the results won't look right.)

TriggerGod

Isn't the base item of Jedi Knight Robes Jedi Master Robes?

Sithspecter

The Jedi investigator robe looks very good, but the only thing that I can see is that the chest area looks a bit pixelated or blurred next to the TSF soldier. Maybe you could make it a little sharper, but that's only a minor detail. It is a very good reproduction, and I'm sure you haven't heard this before, but the robe looks very nice.

Astor
06-22-2008, 05:19 AM
I might make some robes for dark siders after I've made and released these ones, just to offer a bit of balance to those darker souls among us. :xp:

Although, there are no alignment restrictions on these robes, so anyone can wear them. :)

EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out

Thanks, Astor

Astor

Apologies for the double post, but this is kind of separate from the post above.

I've come up with a new way of giving the player the Jedi Investigator's robe. It will involve this NPC:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v734/Craig_Bean05/npctest.jpg

You should be able to find him in the TSF office, where he'll some things to say :)

Darth Payne
06-22-2008, 01:15 PM
Heh, that's not a bad idea.

I like the sur-name of that one too.

Astor
06-22-2008, 01:45 PM
The main problem at the moment is getting them to spawn in the TSF Office. I've got the Whereami armband, and recorded the location I want them to spawn at, but transferring the information from the whereami file to the .git file is proving quite a problem.

There's several coordinates in the whereami.txt that don't have a label, so i'm trying to figure out what goes where. :)

Hi guys, I haven't forgotten about my mod, just some things got in the way.

Given the trouble i'm having with adding the NPC to Telos, I'm thinking about a basic release, with both robes being available from Daraala (the salvager on dantooine), and then I can focus on maybe working the NPCs into a bigger mod.

Does that sound interesting to you?

Thanks, Astor.

You ought to use a spawn script in a dialog file instead of using the .git file. This will make it more compatible with other mods and TSLRP especially.

And the coordinates should just be in order, x,y,z. But I could be wrong on that.

Anyway, the robe looks awesome, and you are really doing a quality job here.

The script in question goes like this:
In the DLGEditor, make it look like this: (Don't worry about the other Params)
Script #1 P1 P2
a_give_item (Number of item) (tag of item)

Nope, that's right.

Would it be possible to spawn a placeable (in this case, a crate with the uniform inside) by using the old_enter_script method? If so, that could be the most straightforward way to spawn a box with the uniform inside.
