View Full Version : What extra classes do you think should be added to STBF III

1. Commando Class
2. Arc Trooper Class
3. Null Trooper Class
4. Others any ideas?
5. All of the above

I would chose 5 i think that would be awesome with those classes of course you would have to earn the some how.

ARC trooper definitely

cool but would u want the regular batch of ARCs or the Nulls??? also how do u thik they should put it like should they have it to were u have to buy it or do sumthing special to earn it or just give it to you???

I think you should be able to customize the units you can use.
like choosing what kind of rifles, sniper-rifles, rocket-launchers, shotguns, etc
as in having a tropper with a light rapid firing rifle with a larger clip and fully automatic side arm, and mines.
or
having a sniper with a semi automatic sniper and a disrupter pistol, and electromagnetic grenades.

see what im getting at?

Bs|Rogue52
07-31-2008, 09:57 PM
I think you already said this but these are my $.02 on it. ^^

I agree that fully customizable units is not a good thing. unless the four core classes remain the same but you can use different variations of equipment within the four core classes.

Such as more nades for the heavy instead of mines, or giving the sniper the option to switch to dual pistols as a secondary instead of two nades.

Then off course offering different variations of nades to equip with such as stun, detonation on impact but with a reduced damage radius, and the standard nades used currently in BFII.

Nothing should alter the units abilities overall though such as armor, and speed.

o well ya true i forgot that most of the people on this one wouldnt but if u want to find out just read the Republic Commando books they r awesome but just so u know the Nulls are Kal Skirata's "sons" and they r faster stronger smarter and have perfect recall they r much better than the reg ARCs

jawathehutt

This isnt an RC game however, its a battlefront game, where the premise was to play as a grunt. Not as an obscenely overpowered jedi, or just as over powered commando type unit.

RC-1183
08-11-2008, 02:31 PM
true sorry i like commandos and the fact ive been reading the books doesnt really help wat i say when i go to sections that dont invovle RCs but i still think it would be cool in a way but then again if everyone started picking commandoes and Nulls and ARCs then everything else would be obsolete

Dude.....If you took BF3, and put commando's in it, that would be awesome. Even ARC's would be cool too.

Like jawathehutt said, it isn't a RC game. And i think if you put ARC's and Commando's as regular choices, it would be an easy game, if they stuck to there superiority to the reg's.

RC-1183

jawathehutt
08-12-2008, 08:46 PM
How does the game tell something like that, it would take a huge amount of time and work to make a system that would analize every factor in a match to determn if an advantage that powerful was needed on a certain side, time that would be put to better use on other things like gameplay.

RC-1183
08-12-2008, 08:52 PM
all they would have to do would make it know if 1 side was outnumbered 10 to 50 then they would give it to them

GeneralPloKoon

Still commandos are a RC thing, plus in a way they are stealthy assassin troopers, not normal soldiers.

jawathehutt
08-13-2008, 01:25 AM
all they would have to do would make it know if 1 side was outnumbered 10 to 50 then they would give it to them

but then what if 3 more people show up and 2 of them happen to be gods at the game, then you have 2 great players plus someone with an extremely overpowered unit, the balance will be shifted completely

I'd like to be able to customize the armor... Like in Halo 3. And be able to pick up peoples weapons when they die, or switch weapons with one of your team mates like in Halo 2...

GeneralPloKoon

Example:
Level-Bespin Cloud City
Era-Glactic Civil War
Timeframes avaliable
-New Imperial Order(The Force Unleashed)
-Rebellion(episodes IV,V,VI)
-The New Republic(The Thrawn and Daala campaigns)

Does that help?
Each timeframe would have similar but a different set of classes.

Yep, eras. Yeah, I can see that working. Kind of like the Conversion pack.

I don't really think we need more, just more refined choices so each really has advantages and disadvantages.

Heroes need to be a lot less prominant: Used when relevent in campaign, and optional in free play - randomly selected by era to remove the problems with allocating heroes to levels. And for the love of god take the shotgun down a notch. I'll never use any other class again lol

Bokken

That is genius. I'm serious. As it is, the sides are essentially completely the same except for the special classes.

Redtech
10-31-2008, 06:30 PM
And that's a problem how? If they're refined you can begine to muck with variety IN THE DETAILS. The biggest problem with the previous BFs is that as Star Wars games they're alright, but as shooters they're rather *blargh.* I'd rather gameplay was a lot more like Republic Commando's taken to an extreme.

Oh yeah, hello, not a newbie!

Bokken
11-01-2008, 04:01 PM
I'd say that *blargh* is a very good description of them as shooters. Not sure whether RC taken to an extreme would be ideal, but it's definitely in the general direction. And variety sounds really good right about now. The only variety I can get for SWBF2 is in mod maps, and with those they have to be in the same class as Battle of the Titans.

Each factions should have at least the generic classes such as: Sniper, Regular Trooper, Heavy Trooper, and Engineer. I don't know about the Pilot, but at least give them something unique that will give them the advantages while driving a space craft. I am out of ideas of what it shall be.

The rest should be something of course unique for each of the factions. I hope the number can be something like 4.

shukkoku

NomCarver
02-03-2009, 12:32 PM
They should add the classes that are in The Force Unleashed. Such as: Incinerator Trooper, Shadow Trooper, Etc.

Troopers from TFU were some of the most inventive of all SW games. Some of them would make great additions.

LordJhredmo
03-05-2009, 09:58 AM
I agree, shukkoku. We should keep all factions and their equivalents in mind. Don't stack ideas for the Republic just because it's uber-rawkzorz.

As for customization. I love the idea, but the problem is, as many have already stated, it's not the place, and I agree. I just wish that the Republic Commando vibrowristblade would be there for basic infantry Clones and Stormtroopers, instead of pistol, and fist slamming (Republic Commando) for Super Battle Droids, then I guess Rebels would have to use their bare fists... LordJhredmo
03-05-2009, 11:27 PM
I agree. At least it followed and connected the canon storyline. Whereas, this pathetic excuse for a depiction of the Clone Wars (utterly insulting) causes many changes to be made to the canon for the sake of not exploding into oblivion.

The five minute run-time was annoying at best, but the animation was good and the story flowed without overdoing it or overloading the story with canon-conflicting material.

The "good" one? The only one, as far as I'm concerned. ::

Um...bazooka-cannon-thing? The Clone Commander uses a Z-6 Rotary :D

LordJhredmo
03-06-2009, 04:07 PM
Except on his shoulder. That's another thing... I wish the Clone Commanders were actually captured in a Clone Commander model and not the Galactic Marines. They just don't look right. What I'd like to see in BFIII is ARC Troopers as Clone Commanders armed appropriately.

I don't think customization really has a place on the battlefront. Not when troops are armed with standard equipment. It isn't a commando theme anyway. It's for the best, I'm sure.

Customisation is better for FFA games, it could make it hard to tell classes apart if they were too varied, and this is crucial in a class based game since you need to know who exactly you are facing and who has your back.

LordJhredmo
03-06-2009, 06:03 PM
Exactly. It can't become too varied or else it'll become a mess of troops with all sorts of gear running around shooting at each other. It would be pretty ridiculous. Especially for the CIS.

Bokken
03-06-2009, 06:33 PM
And I think that effectively answered the much debated argument for customization in SWBF3. As ever, I don't care either way about customization.. But I do agree, too much customization would make things ridiculous.

LordJhredmo
03-06-2009, 07:11 PM
Thank you, bokken. I don't really care either, it's fun when it's appropriate, but (to continue affirmation) yes, it would be ridiculous and out of place in a standard soldier combat game.

GeneralPloKoon
03-07-2009, 11:09 AM
The only area where customization would make snese is FFA gametypes, which may be unlikely in a class-based game.

LordJhredmo
03-07-2009, 12:59 PM
Yes, that's very true. FFA is probably the most out of place mode of game play in Battlefront, considering it's supposed to be comprised of massive military engagements, and not skirmishes of different troops fighting each other.

If they did end up adding Null ARCs and rebel units for each class (known troops that turned on the actual class), I'm not sure how they could work that in... but that would be an interesting idea for potential customization. They could call it "Rebel mode" or something. Like hunt maps with special classes not usually featured, like Null ARCS and some other "malfunctioning" troops whose loyalty to that faction ends.

It's sort of difficult for the Empire, considering the main option for a challenging class would be the New Republic/Rebellion, which is already a faction... There may be some sort of story detail I don't know about. I can't begin to imagine what "Rebel" unit there would be for the Rebellion. A tennis ball (Empire, Rebellion, Empire)? I don't know how many were reaccepted into the Empire, but I'm sure it happened on occasion.

Any other thoughts on that?

Bokken
03-07-2009, 03:15 PM
Well, and FFA mode would be slightly out of place, but there could always be a kind of Red vs. Blue mode where the color or insignia of the customization would be automatically determined by the team, and all other factors were left up to the user.

LordJhredmo
03-07-2009, 06:49 PM
Oh no. Not RvB. I don't think that would be appropriate for BFIII at all. *Shudders*
There's no way it would work for BFIII without being completely ridiculous. Would this be the same faction RvB? If so, that's a little difficult to explain why that conflict would or could take place at all.

Sorry, but I really disagree with RvB. Halo works with it, Battlefront doesn't.

Bokken
03-07-2009, 07:46 PM
I didn't mean literally RvB :D
I meant the same kind of thing; for example, definable customization for each era. I'm not talking like Red team vs. Blue team with half-droids or rebels wearing stormtrooper helmets. I simply meant something like being able to choose what your character wears within the appropriate limits of their respective team. IE, choosing whether your character is Male or Female...and for God's sake, no customizable weapon choices, please.

TSR
03-07-2009, 07:52 PM
I love customisation in games. Partly why i'm such a huge fan of RSV 2. However, i don't think a system like that would work in BF. If there was going to be customisations, then my ideas would be:

Armor detail colour- Ideally could be used as if to represent a unit, however the real purpose would be for clans and such. I'm talking about a whole colour change, Just small bits, like outlining on shoulder guards etc.

Barrels/Scopes- For different play styles. I.E choose between different zoom lengths for snipers and barrel sizes- Maybe bigger barrel, more damage, less shots or something. Just tweaks like that could add abit of diversity yet still keep the game in tune with its roots.

LordJhredmo
03-07-2009, 09:05 PM
bokkenblader56-
I understood that you didn't mean half-droids or anything like that. The only faction you could have women in is the Rebels, so it would be trivial to have gender selection. Weapon customization may go too far, but it's something to keep in mind. Everyone has to remember, though, that this is a standard soldier, standard equipment combat game. Don't expect that extent of detail, especially when it really isn't required (it's LA...).

TSR-
I love customizations, too, but you're right. It wouldn't work, but there's always room for ideas. I'd like to see the clones have their regional armour depending on the map you're playing on (e.g., 212th orange colours for Utapau clones), but I'm probably asking for too much.

I don't think I really agree with armour customization, because it's (like I said to Mr. blader) standard soldiers. There wouldn't be much room for armour colouring due to the fact that the clones are very standard in their armour colours (limited to legion designations) and battle droids cannot be any more appearance customized than they look from creation. They're made for fast production, large numbers, and effective gear. There's nothing to customize there. As for Rebels, that's the only faction that makes for good customization potential with no set appearance. Then there's the Empire, who's even more strict on no customizations/designations whatsoever. The whole armour customization idea is moot just from the fact that there's no place for it other than for the Rebels.

How many clans do you think would be using the feature? I'd love if they put in some chat channels and boosted in-game community support, but it is LA... Patches/logos for clans would work, but how many different ones would/could there be? That's asking for a lot, yet it would be well worth it...

As for weaponry, again it's supposed to be standard and customization really won't work for it, in my mind. Scope customization would be better left to game options, rather than a selection for individual engagements. Also, this brings in balance issues, which most people would prefer to avoid. The disadvantages seem to outweigh the benefits of such customization.

bokken, I checked it on some dictionary sites, but I couldn't find the British "customise." Do you have a reference link I could peer into?

I love the Phase I clone armor (not as much as Phase II, mind you, but better than Phase III/Stormtrooper, in my opinion). I've seen screen shots from Battlefront and I loved the LAAT/i gunships (more like "funships/yumships") and the Phase I clones they had. I wish they had more than just the one map featuring Phase I clones in BFII.

I really don't care how many classes there are or what types has long I get to play has the troopers like Imperial Scout Trooper, Imperial Royal Guard, Imperial Officer (Which they have never had in previous games), etc. I do not like the idea of random bounty hunters or jedi/sith. I prefer special classes for bounty hunters/jedi/sith and choose between heroes from the 5 films from Luke, Leia, Han, Palpatine, Chewie, Lando to Anakin, Mace, Yoda, Obi-wan, Boba Fett, Bossk, Ig-88, Dengar, Zuckuss, 4-Lom, Aurra Sing, Ventress, etc. That would be a cool game.

LordJhredmo
03-21-2009, 07:19 PM
They had Imperial Officer in BFII...

I agree that if they have any heroes, they shouldn't go overboard with random or not-well-known heroes.

I think there should be more variety of heroes, debuffed/nerfed (MEGA and more vulnerable, too) and maybe even two per team, on special maps who deserve the attention?

I'd like to see many more heroes (from the movies, mainly, but maybe a few from EU), but they should be limited to hero assault modes, so they don't throw off trooper gameplay.

Me too, although I wouldn't min heroes in an offline single mode of some sort as Commanders on the battlefeild. Maybe, depending on the planet/battle heroes could only be seen as holograms giving orders on screen. Or/and back to the Battlefront I CPU-only controlled heroes.

LordJhredmo
03-23-2009, 07:02 PM
What do you mean, "gamplay value"? IGF's recruitment server is constantly packed with people. I don't see what gameplay value really means or how it has any bearing on heroes being not/involved on IGF's servers...

Please detail what "gameplay value" is for me.

Thanks.

Bokken
03-24-2009, 09:40 AM
If the case is actually that the IGF recruiting server is "packed with people," then my statement is null. However, as I said, I have never seen more than 15 people, and I have certainly never seen it full. Which is why people continually go back to servers like Shattered Planet and Jedi Battle Arena; they want a full game. I guess that's what I meant by gameplay value. If JBA and SP didn't use heroes, their servers would probably be even more popular, and WGO's Hero Assault servers would, too.

LordJhredmo
03-24-2009, 10:04 AM
It is often armed with at least 6 people at a time, if not more. Obviously, there are downtimes, but generally, it has a fair enough amount of people to get a game going good. But then WGO Hero Assault server wouldn't be the WGOHA server now, would it?

Anyway, I don't quite see the "gameplay value" of a hero server in comparison to a standard set server like IGF's (depending on the event on).

Hop on, sometime, bokken. Add me on Xfire, too.

Doesn't anybody like the CIS. They have a lot of different droid units that could work in the game. Maybe no the Annihilator droids( for those who don't know, Annihilators are droideka's big brothers), but they still have good units. Maybe the crab droid might be a good one to use or maybe the ultra battle droid or the dwarf spider droids mark 1 & 2. And what about those droids that the deranged geo planned to build? There are those commando droids from the Clone Wars( CGI version). Cortosis battle droids, buzz droids, Baron droids, Magna guards, regular battle droids, and super battle droids also exist. So why is almost everyone focusing on the Republic?

Heroes may work well in some kind of the Co-Op (i know it doesn't fit into battlefront series but adding something extra won't hurt) mode (humans vs bots). This way the geonosis arena battle may work with humans being jedi and bots being droids, and bobba fett, and count dooku. That may also be used in Order 66.

Maybe more commander-like heroes for regular maps with auras (Like Rage and rally but they would always take effect instead of being triggered and with a larger area of effect)- that would force more teamplay (heroes like Imp commander vasks and Mon Mothma)- just an Idea. Also the health and the timer separated - if someone shoots you your health decreases but your 3 min timer does not so you can use those 3 mins if you don't die.

As for the customization I'd like to see camouflage - like white uniforms on hoth, green on endor(isn't it stupid to see white stormtroopers in Endor) , and sand brown on geonosis, but with a recognizable look and so you know what it is when you see it. I don't like the idea of customizable weapons or weapons that can be picked up (if you were a trained sniper would you know how to operate a rocket launcher, and it would change the gameplay too much AND make teamkilling a good thing)

maybe also different classes for different maps- like no heavy's or engineers on infantry only maps, or no jet pack troopers in interior maps like Death star and Tantine IV interior, or pilots on maps with ships like hoth or bespin.

Sorry for my english :D

i had an idea for standard "universal" classes, where there are, of course, set weapons and each class had a special ability. some classes have weapon options.

Assault- Primary: Blaster Rifle, Secodary: Pistol, Ability: MedKit
Demolition- Primary: Rocket Launcher, Secondary: Light Repeater, Ability: Mine Layer
Recon- Primary: Sniper Rifle/Carbine, Secondary: Pistol, Ability: Cloak
Engineer- Primary: Shotgun, Secondary: Pistol, Ability: Repair
Scout- Primary: Carbine, Secondary: Pistol/Light Repeater, Ability: Jet Pack
Support- Primary: Heavy Repeater/Flamethrower, Secondary: Pistol, Ability: Ammo Dispenser
Commando- Primary: Carbine, Secondary: Pistol, Ability: DemoCharge

and then you have your unique units for each faction.
