View Full Version : Head Case

I'm attempting to remodel a head, and I keep having one specific issue.

I've gotten experience in NWmax and know how to manipulate the model and I get the results that I'm going for with great satisfaction...

And then I try to import the model into the game.

I've also retextured the head, with great success. When I only put the new texture in the Override folder, it does fine and the new texture looks fantastic. However, when I try to use the new model as well, something happens where the back of the head has a slightly disturbing-looking flesh-coloured gash:

I only manipulated the front part of the face, however, so I don't see why this problem has occurred. Is it a problem with the model, or with the texture?

If anyone has had this problem and solved it, or knows what the issue is and can tell me how to fix it, I would greatly apprecaite.

Once again, sorry for being such a dang newbie. :xp:

Did you use and follow the instructions for Taina's Replacer Tool? The main issue with head models is that you can't delete or add any vertices whatsoever when you edit the model, you can only move the vertices. Well at least that used to be the restriction back when I edited a head model, if this has changed someone correct me XD. However, if you did follow all the instructions, and this problem still occurred, I would recommend that you take your edited head model and place it back into gMax and open the UVmap. If you see vertices going off to wonky locations then that would be what is causing the deformation of the skin and you'll have to fix that.

Yup I got the Replacer stuff down (I'm pretty sure; I followed the instructions to the dot, and there IS a head as opposed to a headless body running around...). I made sure not to delete vertices, only move them. At first I thought I'd accidentally selected vertices at the back of the head and moved them, but that wasn't the case.

Thanks for the tip on checking the UVmap. :) I'll be doing that tonight.

If you did not change the UV Map, try, while using the Replacer, to not click anything for the UV Map changes side. (IIRC, thats the right side) One of the problems I had while re modeling a head without changing the map was selecting the options on the UV Map side of the Replacer. That often confused the Replacer, and caused the UV Map to go funky.

SUCCESS!!!

I'm so STOKED. I had been trying to figure this out for-flippin-ever!
I noted the UVmap ticks in the Replacer, and those were all unchecked.
However, I unchecked all the boxes on the left side except for "head", "head_g", and "ponytail", and BAM!:

Perfecto.
Thanks for all your help! :)

By the way... If anyone gives a hoot, here's a lowdown of my remodel:

I took the model for the PFHC03 head and changed her forehead and performed some major rhinoplasty on her nose.
(I thought she had too much nose and too little forehead.)
Made some minor changes to the ponytail to make it look a tad bit more natural.
Created a new texture for head, face and hair.
I also replaced her body mesh with Bastila's to allow my PC character to wear custom clothing and armor created for that whiny narciss---...er, Bastila. :^:

I'm very pleased with the results after making this final perfecting fix.
Thanks again! :D

Isn't she a tad pale?

Well, THANKS.
Haha.

She's paler than the default textures, true, but this was my intention, and otherwise her face is 20 shades darker than the body's skintone. :/
The setting I took the screenshots in was dark, so I lightened the pictures slightly, too.

Redhead's tend to be pail, anyway.

EDIT: Oh -yeah, looks great ;)

I'm glad you got it to work, head models can be finicky which is why once I did one I never wanted to do it again.
