Every now and then, we want to have an episode dedicated to topics than you guys want to hear us discussing, so we would like for you to post suggestions in this thread.

You can suggest any topic of discussion at all, and we will go through them and pick out the ones that we actually know something about, and think would make for interesting listening. Obviously we can't discuss every single one that is suggested, but we will try and fit as many in as time will allow us. Your name and topic will be read out, and then we will have a good old chat about it.

We would like to do this starting with Episode #3, and make it a regular feature for future episodes, so get posting. :)

Fan Fiction. :D

All the people appearing in the cast could read a Fan Fic (all could read the same one, or a different one) and could then do a sort of review? :p

Maybe for one episode, you could try and get one of the LF owners in there, and people could email in some questions for them...

I'm sure there are lots of people who'd like to know what's involved in keeping this place running, and what goes on behind the scenes...

Just to throw an idea out there, how about hosting some form of community competition? As opposed to the forum-specific events (such as Javyar's, etc) this event would be heard by the entire community. An art contest, per se, or a story, that might fit in with the topic of the upcoming podcast, could be a possibility.

So, for example, if the next podcast was about The Old Republic, the competition might be to create a drawing on that subject, or write a short story. In essence, I suppose that it's like the jingle thread (in the sense that it's a bunch of people competing to earn recognition, or have something shown/read on the podcast).

Just my two cents.

Probably a bit of my own wishful fantasy, but how about some sort of reenactment of scenes in TSL, like a radio drama? I'm sure leXX can belt out a good Kreia impersonation. :D

Doing a TSL-centric podcast kinda alienates all the non-SWKnights people.

Maybe an episode on games you'd like to see created in the future. For example, a game based entirely Han Solo, and his early life before the meeting with Luke and Obi in Mos Eisley. Discuss content that you would like to see in the game, what type of game, and things of that sort.

I think you should dedicate an entire section to explaining the hierarchy of Imperial ranks. Is "commander" higher than "captain?" This confuses me, because in Star Trek Captain Picard's second-in-command was a Commander. Yet, in the Star Wars universe, "commander" is often given to someone in charge of a small task force, with captains being the commanding officers of individual ships. And army captains? What's with that? Are they roughly equal rank to a naval captain or are there differences? Colonel? Where does that fit in. I need a list from Grand Admiral to Ensign here!

So yeah, discuss that. :p

I am curious if you guys and gals would be interested in listening to our pilot episode. We refer to it as "tarst". It basically is a generic podcast where we were testing our voices and basically doing a mock up of a podcast without adding any real information. We have also toyed with the idea of doing a separate blooper real, because not all of the bloopers make it into the episodes. Some of them are really, really funny! Some of them you will never hear because they are not forum appropriate! :D

Id like to suggest a recurring "Ask the Cast" segment where podcast hosts answer a few selected questions from members posted in a thread here. Many other sites even tv shows have such a component. It gives us a chance to get to know cast members better. We got a taste of this in the 'movies and games you are looking forward to' bit in Ep2.

Here are some questions I think many would like to hear the cast's responses too:
*What is your favorite SW movie and why?
*What is your favorite SW game and why?
*What was the geekiest SW related thing you have ever done?
*Has LA abandoned PC gamers? Why?
*What do you think of DRM and digital distribution?
*Do you have a handheld? What games would you recommend on it?
*What is your favourite type of pizza?
*What is your favourite area at LFN, at any particular time. eg JK forums 2002!
*What upcoming technology are you most looking forward to?
*What do you think should be the key features in the next gen of consoles(gen4)?

I have several hundred more :p

Having the cast name members they like/don't like and give detailed explanations with quotes would be fun.

Id definitely skip listening to that one, and go get a ice pack for my ears :p

The subject: MMO's

Specifically, can the Old Republic MMO make a dent in World of Warcrafts titan grip on the market share in MMO gaming, and where does that leave SWG? What kind of impact will this have on generational gaming, specifically, could this deter older gamers from playing or even interacting with the newest generation of star wars fans?

As a hardend WoW player and a Star Wars fan, I'd love to talk about this live with ya guys. :D

They pretty much covered all of this in Ep1.

As LFN is so diverse, their content would need to be general enough so that all members toiling away in their respective corners could pick it up and enjoy it. As an EU fan, Im hardly going to ask them what they thought of Booster Terrik painting his ISD Red, and no one except for an EU fan would want to hear about such a thing :xp:

That's what the separate areas are for after all.

WOW!

This is really taking off just the way I wanted it too. Not only are you guys submitting GREAT topic suggestions, but you are all getting involved with it. This is basically YOUR podcast! The way we intended it to be!

Now the tricky part is figuring out which topics we will do in Episode 3. We DID promise a "revolving door" of members on the podcast, but we don't want TOO many people on any one podcast, because it gets confusing for the listener. We already got many members on the starting lines getting ready to get in on the cast. Boba Rhett is a definite possibility for Episode 3. Actually, Rhett was part of our "tarst" cast, but was unable to sit in on Episode 1 and 2 for personal reasons which will be discussed in detail on the cast itself! While Lynk is still very much the executive producer of all things LucasCast, he has graciously volunteered to "sit out" the next cast so that somebody else can speak in his place. I been kind of elected to be "host" because even though I screw up a lot,(so sorry for leaving you out two times Lynkeh!) I guess I am pretty good at driving the discussions from one topic to the next.

While Episode 3 is not fully ironed out just yet, I CAN promise you that many of the topics suggested in this thread, will in fact make it into Episode 3. We will be recording Episode 3 this Sunday, and will have the finished product out the week after, (3/23 if I am not mistaken). There is also a slight possibility we may be "hiring" (in LF terms, that means working for free...lol) some additional members to help us stream things along a bit. We already have candidates in mind, so please do NOT bombard us with private messages and requests.

Glad you are digging the cast, and keep telling your friends about us. The more listeners we gather, the more successful. That will help us in our quest of finding groovy guest speakers for our future podcast.

And yes, leXX DID own me with her comment "Groovy, why do you game?" :D

The only reason I let that slide is that many people don't understand my approach towards video games. I am a "recreational" gamer. Not a true competitive gamer. I seek video games as a source of entertainment, not for competition. If you see my xbox live profile it even states in my bio "I may suck at most games, but I am here to have fun, which is what games were intended for, so deal with it!" That pretty much states it all. I have not "ranked on a server" since SWBFII came out for the original XBOX. That was one of few games that ever came natural to me, and I enjoyed every damn bit of it. leXX and I go way back to the days of Jedi Academy where we used to spar off saber only duels in the Matrix Dojo. And yeah, she used to kick my ass back then too! leXX has always been more of a "GAMER" than me which is why I chose her to be on this show. What is more interesting than a good looking British female gal that can kick your ass online at any game? That's why I will let her insult me pretty much whenever. leXX rules!

me too. For me games are a way to wind down after work and now my postgrad studies. If they stressed me out more, Im sure I would spontaneously combust :D I personally have the most fun playing games like NHL, NBL or FIFA with a bunch of mates - which we do religiously on a Tuesday night, with the amount of beer and pizza consumed being more important than whatever our game score is ;)

Individually, I like RPGs like Mass Effect and NWN2... but due to my epilepsy(short bouts of gaming only), these literally take me years to finish !

They did this to some extent in their Ep1 intros. (IIRC>) Lynk and Niner from the mists of RSN/XWA, Grooves and Lexx came for JK2, Jae and Moels for KOTOR, which you can pretty much tell from their join dates anwyay :)

It'd be interesting to hear from the pre 2002 members what LFN was like before it was actually LFN in its current form. In 2002, things were definitely hectic.....people were arguing and flaming, but it was all about the game (eg. JK2 > bowing in MP!) rather than the broader social topics :p This of course is LAs fault for not giving us enough decent games to argue about

A couple of other questions Im sure many others would be interested in:

What type of link does LFN have with LA?
Has anyone from LFN ever been invited to Skywalker Ranch?

Here's a BIG one (perhaps enough for an entire show):

Game controversies...

- Dealing with gaming critics and haters.
- Adult content in games. (I.E: Sex and graphic violence.)
- Deep, and possibly disturbing subject matter, and making moral/ immoral decisions in games (Bioshock, GTA...)
- Pros and cons of rating systems.
- Censorship.
- Taking the evil path in games.
- Are we running the risk of becoming desensitized because of it all? Or is that merely the same accusation just being rehashed after being used on every previous popular new media to come along? (Radio, movies, comic books, TV, rock-and-roll, the internet...)

Hi New to the forums,

I hope in future episodes you do talk about other past achievements from LucasArts cause its not just about Star Wars. It would be great to hear what you guys thought of the point n' click genre and do you think they should make a return.

I still have hope for a Monkey Island 5 hopefully for next year as it will be Monkey Islands 20th anniversary in 2010.

End of topic, boring podcast.

I still think that you should talk some more about general technological advances that are occurring, and more technology topics since we've now covered "favorite game" thoroughly.

Piracy on the game market comes to mind.

Cool, looking forward to it. I just think that Star Wars lately has just dried up and should be given a rest so they can come with better ideas and stories as theres more that they can do then just one franchise. LucasArts did say they would go back to the old franchises and I think now is the perfect time as any as their is a small increase in adventure games been wanted by publishers and developers.

I'd rather not actively discourage suggestions--while this specific suggestion wouldn't lend itself to an entire podcast, that doesn't mean it's not important to mention. It's a big deal to lose the site that way, and one that many of us thought would survive a very long time. In addition, an idea might serve as a seed idea for a related topic, so it's important to hear as many different ones as possible. :)

....but consumers aren't buying any less games than in the past.

There's a bit more to it than that. Different slices of the market have been affected to a different degree. Those with greater economic responsibilities such as mortgages, school fees etc are being much more selective when buying titles. I definitely am! I just bought assassin creed for PC and another game on a '2 for $50' sale the other day. AC is usually $90+ here, and there's no way I'd buy it at that price.

The pre-owned market has become increasingly stronger as well. A representative of EB said so for here in Oz. I doubt it would be different in the US, though Groovy could confirm that.

Well that is true, I have probably spent more on games in 2009 than I ever have before but at the same time been very picky on what I want to spend money on. And I've also been buying used games more than in the past. But for the industry as a whole games are certainly not selling any worse than in the past.

You 'casters should talk about region locked media, games, dvds, blu-rays, etc. and how it doesn't make sense at all. For example the PS3 games are region free, but blu-rays aren't I believe. Also with the DSi, whether or not the new DSi store will be region locked, thus making it less appealing to import a foreign system.

Would love to hear your take on ratings. Does the current system work? Should it be enforced by law? Where does the line go between M and AO?

What also ties into this debate is how video games affect our children. Do they really provoke aggressive behavior? Or do kids really know of the disconnect between video games and real life? Are violent games harmful to children? What about sexuality in video games?

Would love to hear you guys discuss this topic, especially since you are in the unique situation of having two gamer moms, and a GameStop manager. Cheers. :3

Actually it's been found that people actually gravitate more towards media such as movie discs and video games during times when they're short on money. Apparently it's because in the long run it lasts longer for them rather than activities which take them outside of the house which have a lot of extra costs and are more short lived.

Though it won't go up online until Monday, we did touch on two LucasArts games in Episode 7. I have to confess though, that most of us were not too excited about another Clone Wars game, nor the upcoming Battlefront title for the hand held systems. Though I tried.

We will probably touch on Monkey Island some more once Jeff get's back from E3 as he has seen it first hand.

Also gang, sorry about the delay between episodes. Right now I am trying to recruit some stand bye podcast members, and extra sound editors so we don't have to keep rescheduling due to lack of participation. Summer is a funny month where you have multiple holidays, graduations, conferences, weddings, birthdays...etc. Our staff is pretty dedicated, but we still do this on a voluntary basis for fun, and sometimes often life gets in the way, and it becomes hard to get everyone together. We would have a pretty boring podcast if we just ran with two or three members.

Also, if you don't know already, we intended to put up a special "bloopercast" that we keep promising. Niner and Lynk finished the damn thing, and even though it was hilarious, it was just too damn short in our opinions to keep you guys entertained in between podcasts. We will still deliver this package, but in Jae's words; "we need some more flub ups first!" :)

Yeah... I can't seem to manage mustering any enthusiasm over the new Star Wars titles either... which is why the return to Indy, and especially M.I. actually caught my interest.

It seems to be a return to the classics for LA... or is it just them finally tapping all the possible SW variations dry?

Either way: Any non-SW LA game is worth a look. It would be nice to see LucasArts become a contender in the gaming world once again.

I can understand why you may say this as some of the younger generation today didn't grow up with Monkey Island and the other adventure games like a lot of us on here did but I'm glad its coming back cause it allows those who didn't play first time see it in a different light to what we did when first played them way back in the late 80's/ early 90's.

I'm guessing Alpha Protocol will be discussed a lot more than usual since its out this week and the reviews haven't been the best so far, apparently a lot of bug and framerate issues, in other words, just a regular Obsidian game.

One I thought of on the bus home - Guilty Pleasures.

Games, Films, music on your iPod - what do you like that you know you shouldn't?

I'd be interested to hear the panel's thoughts what the next generation of console hardware should contain, and when it could be due.

With the 1080p standard being the ceiling limit for TV displays at the moment, the current consoles should have at least 3 more years in them yet... possibly more for the PS3.

A PS3 with integrated DVR(like the Play TV addon) may be a possible future revision, but a BluRay/HD-DVD Hybrid X360 is pretty unlikely.

I'd like to hear some opinions on this technology: http://www.slate.com/id/2257825/

They actually did cover OnLive on one of the first few podcasts, when it was officially announced.

Now that it is open to the public, it will be interesting to see how it pans out. If it takes off, I keep getting the feeling that someone like MS, Google or even Valve will buy it out and have its evil? way with it :D

For those of us that like to hand craft our gaming PCs, the concept holds no allure, but this product is not aimed at us of course.

With technologies like these, I get the feeling that one day offline gaming will be a thing of the past.

Yeah... I was just wondering now that it's online if anybody has or is planning to use it.

The rates seem a bit steep to me for software you won't actually have in your possession.

The newest installment of Samurai Showdown for 360. I'm seriously looking into it.

Game topic suggestions:

Marvel VS Capcom 3
Duke Nukem Forever: Is this news or just another blunder of a company in denial? How can this game still be relevant anymore?

Does anybody else here on LF besides me like the custom lightsaber crafting?
We could discuss that and I wouldn't mind talking though my experience is limited I'm afraid.

Just making suggestions.

Nothing else atm, ho hum.
