I made this today for the reunion party at the Joint Rehabilitation Center in the hospital. the entire piece stands roughly 4 feet high. the pineapples on the palm tree are attached by 36" inch stainless steel skewers spot wielded to a 25 lb stainless steel 24" diameter base ( the trees are actually able to sway back and worth due to the weight of the pineapples simulating a windy day.

the hammock was made from a half of an eggplant scooped out.

a flower consisting of a honeydew, an orange, and a strawberry rose.

a better view of the base... using the tops of the pineapples as bushes around the trunks with strawberry flowers in them.

i was asked by at least 10 ppl today to do this for like wedding receptions im stoked that i can make some side monies off this.... but i dunno what to charge for it...

for this display only ( and you would have to be there in person just to see how vast it really is.... the fruit itself i sued cost about 120 dollars.... with time and labor plus a little bit of profit im thinking around the 200 -250 range..... what do you guys think? is that a decent price for something like this at a wedding or an upscale reception for the big wigs?

id love to hear some comments on this... cuz i plan to make this into a side biz outside of work.

That looks spectacular. And delicious. Where did you learn to do all that?
The trees and hammock are brilliant; that sells the whole thing. The strawberry roses are beautiful. Good use of color. The only thing I would really say could improve it is to do something a littler fancier with the watermelons, but I'm no expert.

As for what you would charge, I have no idea, but I can see why so many people would ask for your work.

Also, stop suing fruit! That's just wrong. :p

Where's Sir Elton John, Sir Ian Mckellen, George Takei? Why are my favorite fruits not displayed?

This may be wrong, but my father told me that when selling a good or service you generally want to earn a 4x profit to make it worthwhile. While that seemed a little high to me, I can see where he is coming from.

(The conversation, however, was related to me inquiring about how much to sell a panoramic print of mine. It costs me 20 dollars to print it, so he said the bare minimum I should sell it for is 80, which makes a bit more sense then charging $480 for a fruit display)

if catered with a friend i grew up with for a long time outside of work that is pro at this and one of the best in the nation.... i just got into it last week after working eyars with him.... i just basically took some of the stuff i seen him do and just play with it and do it on my own.

this is my boy david... he is a downright phenom.....

im gonna start on melons shortly... but this **** costs ME money to learn to do... if i **** up a single petal on a watermelon i just lost 2-3 bucks.

it takes a LONG time to be able to carve melons into what he is doing... and hes been doing this trade right out of high school and 2 culinary schools; id say about 12 years is how much invested time he has in it... i have pretty much 1 week... but im seeing alot of potential in this craft.

i did a yellow squash monkey and a sqaush duck hatching coming out of a cantelope next just for ****s n giggles las tnight ill post them up once i get them off my phone.
