I am starting a project to inject some fun into an old fav of mine. Kotors (obviously:) ) My story idea, character ideas and so forth are not ready to be discussed in a public forum as of yet.. But i would like some help with a few things if it is not to much to ask. Here is a list of things that i am unsure how to do and would need some learning...

1.)I want my PC to start out as a child and at a certain point in the game grow to a man/women. (new clothing for the PC character as a child would be needed)
2.)I want to change the starting point of the game along with opening movies and Menus. Making it so when the Player picks his character at the begining there are some limits and he is not on the endar spire.(ex:Only a few child heads to choose from, Attribute points lessened.)
3.)I want to be able to give out feats based on dialoug options. Not just lvling up, ex: If there is a skilled computer hacker the child befreinds, he will be offered the option to gain that feat that way. (maybe through an item or a series of "jobs"?)
4.) I want to included alien races in the game as children. I am working on this myself but i have a very limited knowledge of that aspect of modding.

If anyone has any tutorials they can point me too, to assit me in this, or if you are interested to find out more, Email me with the subject BOS help. I think it might be a bit much to take on but i am new to modding and i am unaware of the limitations, Plus i am unemployed at the moment so...i have alot of time on my hands.

1. Possible. But it would take serious model working.
2. Possible. Just make the videos and insert them with the previous file name.
3. You can not make new feats, only new force powers. But you can reuse old ones.
4. I dont know. I know some one was attempting it, but I dont know if they ever got it to work.

I would not start with a TC yet. I would work your way up starting with some simple stuff. Maybe a merchant, than a non release module, then reskin your module. Learn Ktool and all the other programs. Also check out the tutorials in the Holowan.

Thank you for responding :)

I am basicly building one module at a time and whatever i need for that area i am learning, I want to find out how to make it so when the player starts up the game there options for chossing a character are different and the starting point of the game is different, That is what i am working on now.

I have the starting module set up, but the tutorial i was following didnt really explain how to create waypoints or starting points or starting cutscenes. I dont want my mod to be a part of Kotor, It is going to be a seperate storyline mini game. I will search the tutorials for some of this stuff, but so far i have read 5 tutorials and they are all pretty messy. Not very clear for beginners. So most of the stuff i know i have had to learn by experamentation. I am a very fast learner and feel like i could be on my way to atleast getting the first moduel finished within 3 days. I just need the know how of changeing the game to make it start in my cutscene rather than the games endar spire attack cutscene and how to tweak the character selection screen to offer the player start off as child of there choose, which of course they will grow into a man later in the game.

P.s.
"3. You can not make new feats, only new force powers. But you can reuse old ones."

I meant i want to be able to give out existing feats through other means rather than lvling up. Such as conversations or quests. im pretty sure it is possible since they do it in Kotor. I just was hoping someone could point me to a Tutorial or advice me on how to do it.

I hope for my sake this forum isnt dead, although SWkotor is a much older game than mass effect or TSL, i feel like it is the better game and more interesting to play. So i hope you guys will if not help with my mod, the least i can really ask of you is for your knowledge and know how. so thank you in advance. I promise these are the only things i have questions(so far) about the rest i can figure out on my own. Thanks to the many tutorials you guys have posted.

hey,

Welcome to the Forum!

Onto your questions....

On the issue of starting as a kid and picking kid portraits, i would keep the picking the aged person's face and then start the game in a certain part of you story. What you do now is have the character do a narrative which sends you to another module as a child. (You will have to make some more re-skinned children) There you can continue what you have laid out as if you started as a child from the beginning.

I don't know what animations the child model has or if it can carry weapons but if you are using it as to run around and talk and perform quests by picking up items and dialogues. This will allow you to do it.

On the issue with feats....

I believe you can edit the .2da for feat gains- through it into the override folder. If you want to eliminate giving feats through all level ups...you would make all 0 but this might conflict with any hard wired code in the game so it might be opening up as bees nest.

I would say make a judgment on what level you will be when you show the adult again and then from there on you can have all level ups run as coded. If your just affecting 1-2 level lines for feat progression,..less chance of problems.

You should scrap the person giving you feats during the whole game and keep it to only the child level(s).

I will tell you best to start small, I know you want to do a TC because you have a story you want to tell, but you are looking at 6 months of learning curve if you have no background/or understanding of scripting code.

Now the solution: I would say create small chapters to your stories as if it was a TV show. Every 30-45 minutes of game play should have a conclusion. As you get better and faster, then you can make a conclusion of the episode every 2 hours of game play.

Also learn the ability to cut out cool ideas or you will drive yourself mad. Some things might be cool to do but when you look for the bang for the buck....you might see that its not worth it and look at other ways like using dialogue to tell certain events when you were a child which can't be done like battles/fights which might need animations which the kid model will not have.
