Welcome to my art thread. Here I would like for you to post any and all spaced themed art that you have made. This thread can also be used to discuss things about the art posted here. When I say spaced theme, I mean actual space. Not something out of a sci-fi movie. Here are some examples:
http://www.lucasforums.com/picture.php?albumid=377&pictureid=3348
An artistic rendering of a black hole devouring a star.
http://www.lucasforums.com/picture.php?albumid=377&pictureid=3349
An artistic rendering of a nebula.

This is the kind of art to post. Please use hidden tags to save space.
I might also add that I made these myself.

Pretty cool! You made those?

They all work for me. That Galaxy looks sweet!

Trench

Alkonium: If they aren't working here, check them out in my album here (http://www.lucasforums.com/album.php?albumid=377).

Canderis: Thanks bro. I'm thinking about doing a supernova next.

Very well done! I would have used actual images from space, but these artistic versions are very accurate. You must be very proud!

Trench

Thanks DarthJacen.

Thanks ner'vod. Any ideas for what I could do next? Other people are welcome to post theirs as well.

Demongo

Well I don't know if it's too hard or anything but it would be cool to see a planet explode:D

Trench
06-18-2009, 03:47 PM
I could try that...
Meanwhile, I've got another one:
http://www.lucasforums.com/picture.php?albumid=377&pictureid=3376
I feel like I cheated on this one. I used a picture of earth and added my lighting effects and the starfield to it.

Hey dude nice pics, you might wanna consider exploring with the options a bit.
From what i can see. You're definitely using Gimp 2.0, am I right?
You used the following methods..

"Light and shadows" = Nova preset...
"Artistic" = cartoon-ify settings...
"Static"...

Trench
06-19-2009, 01:48 PM
Thanks for the tip bro. I also tried some other options. Here is an oil painting render of the nebula

Well, this isn't the best you have done, but still good:)

If you enjoy creating space scénes, you might enjoy this link:
CLICKY (http://www.solarvoyager.com/tutorials.asp)

Its more geared towards realistic scenes though, but it should be easy to take more artistic approach.

Complements on finding those filters, on certain images its a bit to obvious.
But thats just minor critics :p

Another linky about making planets:
CLICKY2 (http://designreviver.com/inspiration/31-breathtaking-planet-space-tutorials-for-photoshop/)

Awaiting new stuff :)

Found an old image I made myself:

Here's a planet I just made using my new-and-improved CS4. (Sorry about the weird half-blurred low-rez planet. I challenged myself to make EVERYTHING using a single tool.)

Ulmont, that is awesome! I wish I had Photoshop.

Ulmont
06-21-2009, 09:43 PM
Thanks. I recommend CS3 or CS4 if you do get it. They're awesome. ;)

Trench
06-21-2009, 09:45 PM
I wish I could get it. At this point its too expensive though. I'm happy with GIMP for the time being though.

Kyr'am Galaar
06-21-2009, 09:52 PM
you could get a free trial. 30 days.

Trench
06-21-2009, 09:54 PM
That would be fun, but I might keel over when the trial ends.

Kyr'am Galaar
06-21-2009, 09:59 PM
I'm actually using the free trial version of CS2 for my mods.

Ulmont
06-21-2009, 10:32 PM
Yeah, I suggest you get the Trial. And I think if you reset your clock date on your computer you can still use it. (I think, 'cause I only did that once, and for a really old program.)

Did you use the Render - Clouds thingimagigger? For the Base Tex? (That's what I used for the planet. And stars. And Nebula-what-ca-ma-callit in the background of mine.)

Kyr'am Galaar
06-22-2009, 03:59 PM
Yes, I used the Difference Clouds Render.

Kyr'am Galaar
06-22-2009, 04:18 PM
I don't know what the heck I just made, but it was supposed to be a Star Explosion. or something like that.

06-22-2009, 11:49 PM
Pretty nice pics. What are you using to make them? Just basic render tools in gimp or photoshop.

Ulmont
06-23-2009, 12:44 PM
Yeah, pretty much. In mine, I challenged myself to make a star/planet/background-space using just render-clouds.

Demongo

This thread has gone long enough without a new piece of art. So I present for your viewing pleasure, this:

An artistic rendering of a damaged star (or something like that)
What do you guys think?

Mandalore The Shadow
06-30-2009, 03:32 PM

Trench
06-30-2009, 03:34 PM
Its got a huge hole punched in its side.

What do the people of LucasForums think of this:
Keep in mind the words "artistic render"
http://www.lucasforums.com/picture.php?albumid=377&pictureid=3557
Its a planet with a few holes in it. Revealing its core.
Peragus II was my inspiration for this one:D.

Ooh! Nice work mate.
I've done plenty of concept art... But it's all a couple of levels above this sites rating. ;)

I need photoshop! *crys* Gimpshop is pretty awesome though. It makes Gimp way easier to use.

Here's another one:

That looks like a time-lasps? of the life of a galaxy. In the beginning, there is a bunch of light, then planets/stars are created, but after a little while, the black hole in the center devorers the galaxy (forgive my misspellings) At least, I THINK thats the life of a galaxy. Other than that, my only critic is that it is moving faster at the beginning than at the end...overall, GREAT!
