I debated whether to post this or not.. I am been bugging the heck out of this board. but... I am going to risk it. I love the hilts for the USM mod and I using it... the problem is that some of the cooler hilts.. (well all of the cooler hilts) don't include orange as a color nor and I find the right looking crystal in that color either. I was wondering if I wanted to try this on my own... what tools would I use?

I'm with you on this one! If I find the knowledge and time to achieve what you ask, I'll give it a shot and post the results. For some reason I find viridian and cyan fit some characters better than green or blue. Unfortunately 95% of the USM cry's only come in the default 5 colors. For instance, I'd outfit Mira with a viridian blade and Brianna with a cyan blade.

You would need GIMP (or photoshop if you got the dough) to create the right .tga for the blade color. Also you would need to use KOTOR tool to create the .uti and to edit crystals.2da and I imagine baseitems.2da. I haven't messed with modding USM aside from creating compatibility patches for it for personal use, so I don't know what in all is needed to essentially generate a new color saber. Also, you wouldn't want to just cheat it into the game, so you would want to edit a container somewhere to get it, or a merchant.

Well, for Brianna's personal saber their is a Cyan variant you can choose for her(or that may be the one she chooses for herself).

If you did want to have a saber from USM with either a orange, silver or viridian blade, you'd need to either chose one of the existing colors, and edit the blade texture(either a custom texture that only that saber uses, or one of the vanilla game textures for saber blades), to have one of the three colors.

The other option involves hex editing the model, which simply means that you would use the appropriate program(not sure of a good one), find the string that labels the blade texture, and change it to the name of a texture with an equal amount of characters.

thanks guys. and I am not home right now so I don't want to double post. This is the main issue I am having with that orange saber is this. I have installed three main mods. Correction from gold to orange, flicker saber and USM. They all want to replace the ( and I am not a 100% sure of the exact, but it goes like this.) w_lghtsbrgld_08.tga or something.

I loaded the Flicker first, then then the correction, then finally USM which gave me access to those hilts. (the ones I want to alter a little are in the USM) with all three mods in, and I put the orange crystal in the type c, and the organic looking one. it looks all "wiggly" and not even a blade. like it fog on the top shimmering. when I apply the orange crystal to any of the other USM hilt's and take out the correction file, It turns into a totally different saber that is not even in the USM mod and does not allow me to undo it. (SIGH)

Like I said I don't want to double post .. but after I get helpful hints from you guys I will post some screen shots to give you a better reference. :)

The default orange texture filename is "w_lsabregold01.tga". And the problem is the fact that pretty much none of the USM sabers have a custom crystal that is the orange blade color. And simply putting an orange crystal into a USM saber will give you a standard saber with an orange blade. The games give a model/blade color to a saber based on the crystal used, and with no usm saber having an orange blade/crystal, the game only knows to use the default model, or in some cases might show a "null" grenade, which means you shouldn't hit "assemble" if that happens.

It's back to moding something of my own... .damn.....thanks.

Would -gmax or Kotor tool would do it? I am very very adept at photoshop which I have... if that all it take modding those sabers for orange and/ or making them to accept a orange crystal... that would make them mine. I don't really care about the rest of the pieces. but the hilt, crystal ( orange) and it look solid I am good.

I guess that only part that leaves out is the part where you build your own with Bao-dur in the game. ... which I don't want to skip. but I will still mak
