Hi. I loved the Jedi Knight games, hated the battlefront games and I love first person RPG's. I need to know if someone has made working first person mods for KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2. That would be sweet because i'd really love to try these games.

I feel someone has probably done it, it's just a simple thing as changing the camera perspective.

Well, I look forward to your replies :-)

Well that was the fastest reply I have ever gotten from any forum thread. WOW.. that simple huh.. in both games?.. awesome.. And this is for walking/running and combat also.. cut out 3rd person view completely?

You know I would never have guessed not buying the games before i found out.. seems no one play them in first person and no one talks about them as first person games so i had no idea it was built into the game. Heck I even came across a list of staw wars games that can be played in 1st person and KOTOR 1 and 2 wasn't listed.

Thanks!! :-)

No. It's just free-look.

Grrrr.. I found someone with the game to check out this free look (KOTOR 1).. yeah it's not a playable first person view at all. This view is totally useless if you cant walk with it or do combat.

So again I am back to my question. Anyone made a real first person camera mod for this game or KOTOR 2?

If not I guess Lucas is gonna lose out on my cash. I can't stand to play 3rd person RPG games. I don't like the feeling that I am controlling a character. I wanna feel as if I am controlling ME as the character. For me a 3rd person view is much less emersive and looking at it gets in the way of the action. If I want to play a game where I control a character i'd play Pac Man.

This is the case with the force unleashed game too. One day game developers will wake up and realize that offering the option to play all games in 3rd or 1st person will cause them to make everyone happy and they will get tons more sales. It's just bad business not to offer them both. They should have learned this from the wildly popular Jedi Knight series where you could play both 1st or 3rd person.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed in hopes someone will see this who knows of such a first person mod.

You can play Battlefront 2 in (fully functional) first person. That's how I alway play it. Sorry if this is considered as off topic or spam.

AFAIK there isn't a first person mod for KotOR simply because that would be hardcoded into the game. If your looking for a FP-RPG then may I direct you towards The Elder Scrolls?

Naturally I have played all the Elder Scrolls games (from Arena to Oblivion). These Star Wars games look good and they are the ones I wish to play. Other 3rd person games that have 3rd person 'hardcoded' into them that do have first person work arounds or mods made for them by talented people include GTA San Andreas, GTA 4, The Witcher and Risen. And I do enjoy them all. <snipped>

Someone may not have made one yet, or you simply never heard of one, but that does not mean it is not possible with the engine used. Now if you would have said its not possible with the engine used and you know this from experience from making games with the engine yourself that would have been a different story.

<snipped> The point is Yes, it's possible for someone to make a first person mod even if they have to jump through a lot of hoops to do it. I just have to wait until I find one already made or wait until someone makes one.

I have played both Battlefront games. After playing the awesome Jedi Knight series ( From Dark Forces to Jedi Academy) I found them rather dull and the game play lacking.

Sorry, but the discussion of hacking .exe is not allowed around here, so I have snipped that portion of your post. Also, please don't double post, you can use the "Edit" function in the bottom right hand corner of your posts to change them. -- j7

Well, I've heard of a KOTOR mod for Battlefront (or was it II...) but that's it.

This is probably the closest you're gonna get. The files in the download can of course be edited to reflect and imitate a first person view, but this is theoretically...

That's gonna be dirty as hell though with all the playing around with numbers in the .2da files. In short, there's no good way to do it.

Naw, it'd be pretty clean.. The only thing I'm worried about is the controls might be inverted...

as in you press left, and you look to the right., etc

Eh, rebind them :xp:

Still think it's going to be dirty, just getting the weapons to show up... :shudder:

@OP: If you're looking for a FP-RPG experience like the Elder Scrolls, stay AWAY from KotOR, it's not going to be anything like that. Otherwise, report back and tell us how it works.
