Things we discussed this podcast:
What we received for Christmas gifts
What we did over the holidays
OS updates for PS3/360--for 360, Twitter, Facebook, last.fm, and Zune are included. Here's an interview with the Xbox Live general manager (http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/01/04/interview-xbox-live-general-manager-marc-whitten.aspx).
Dragon Age --did you know who some of the major voice actors are in this game? See here (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6216407.html).
Controversy about DLC being released on day 1 of the game's release Shouldn't this have been included in the game, for heaven's sake? (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/dragonage/news.html?sid=6232117&mode=news)
Star Trek Online: the huge controversy about Champions Online offering new 6-month/lifetime subscribers access to closed beta of STO. These new subscribers learned that Cryptic was giving away closed beta keys on Facebook, Twitter, and other outlets while many of the subscribers still are waiting to get their closed beta key. See this article on MMORPG.com for more info (http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/loadFeature/3774/utm_campaign/MMORPG%20Daily%20Digest%20Email/utm_source/MMORPG/utm_medium/email).
Open beta of STO started Jan 12th, game is set for release on Feb 2nd.
Jedi Consular and Sith Inquisitor (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=201614) classes revealed for TOR, along with the planet Alderaan (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=201652). A new Sith planet, Dromund Kaas (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=202263), has been introduced, too.
And just because zombies are a recurring theme: A zombie MMO (http://www.mmorpg.com/newsRoom.cfm/read/15589/utm_campaign/MMORPG%20News%20Alert%20Email/utm_source/MMORPG/utm_medium/email) from ArenaNet's former co-founder.
Guild Wars 2 has another new trailer out. Both trailers can be found here. (http://www.guildwars2.com/en/)
There's going to be a Prince of Persia legos. We're not kidding. (http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2009/12/25/news-lego-prince-of-persia-images-surface.aspx)
ME 2 will have 2 discs. We'll tell you why! (http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2009/12/04/news-two-discs-for-mass-effect-2.aspx)
Check out info on one of the voice actors for this game, too. (http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2009/12/10/mass-effect-2-boasts-a-stellar-voice-cast.aspx) It's geek heaven!
Dragon Age Return to Ostagar DLC release announced (http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2009/12/29/new-dragon-age-origins-dlc-dated-detailed.aspx) but then delayed. A retail expansion is rumored here for March (http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2009/12/29/new-dragon-age-origins-dlc-dated-detailed.aspx) and confirmed by Bioware (http://dragonage.bioware.com/awakening).
The DA Return to Ostagar DLC got delayed because of problems Bioware discovered just before releasing it (see here (http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/9/index/608506) and also here) (http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/9/index/655509). The new release date is TBA. A patch for 360 will be released at that time as well.
Some of us played some Bayonetta (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/bayonetta/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;read-review).
Important discussion about MMO account security:
There have been reports of massive problems with accounts getting hacked in games that are operated/owned by NCSoft (including Aion and Guild Wars), possibly due to NCSoft's security holes (http://guildwars.incgamers.com/showthread.php?t=492211). The community manager for Guild Wars, Regina Buenaobra, mentioned in her wiki that there were some changes in the password resets in the NCSoft master accounts (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User:Regina_Buenaobra/Journal#GvG_Skill_Balance.2C_Next_Skill_Updates.2C _Wintersday_Re-Run_-_19_January_2009).
leXX describes how to use Control+C (copy) to copy your password from NotePad and then Control+V (paste) in the space where you input your password so that key-loggers can't hack your account.
Blizzard has been using authenticators as an additional security option (http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/loadNews/11069), and apparently is considering making them mandatory. (http://www.wow.com/2010/01/08/blizzard-giving-serious-consideration-to-mandatory-authenticator/)
How would you feel about co-op play for ME2 and DA? We discuss it. (http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2009/11/16/news-Bioware-Talks-Co_2D00_op-For-Future-Dragon-Age-and-Mass-Effect-Games.aspx)
Bloopers
Rogue Nine's blood sugar's a little low at the start of the cast. Later he tells Jae to 'eat the mic'. leXX sings for us this time, and Darth Groovy tries to say 'MMO'. Jae actually eats her mic later. We have a short discussion on how we want to die before we move on to discuss Jae's Gilbert Gottfried impression. We wrap up by saying (or not saying) 'goodbye'.
