Well, as many of you already know a new trailer was released for TOR at EA's E3 press conference today. It is called "Hope."

You can view it on the official site (http://www.swtor.com/media/trailers/hope-cinematic-trailer) or below (via youtube)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpcpdEB_KOQ&feature=player_embedded

Meh..more CGI...and what's really sad is I think I could take that video and transplant it into The Clone Wars time frame and they would look so similar it would be scary, and wtf if up with half the Sith wearing Revanish masks?

At any rate, I think G4 has a hands on coming up with the game and I'm more interested in that than anything else.

Was that Satele Shan?

Maybe they should rename this video "Crash", because that's what it did to TOR's website.

You know, I always find this ridiculous, they build up huge hype, only to not have enough servers to take the hit when the magic number hits.

Deceived was better IMO. For the first half of the film I thought it was horrible FMV acting instead of CGI TBQH. And they continue to make the Galactic Empire/Sith Empire parallel with the TIE Engine sound...

At first I thought it was a trailer for Battlefront 3, seeing as it had Clone troopers fighting the Empire, in a hypothetical, Ultimate Showdown fashion. But then I realized that this was a legit, canonical showcase for TOR, and I died a little inside.

It all looked so good...the Empire is designed quit good. They're using droids, their leaders are heavily armor-clad...but then the Tie-Fighters flew over, the Clone troopers readied themselves and it all went downhill.
The Republic ships at the end were done well though, resembling the Kotor ones. Why doesn't the rest???

And what is up with the Jedi and Sith awesomeness? The trailer pointed out that, although troopers together CAN defeat a Sith, only a Jedi really can match them.

Troopers vs. Sith or Smuggler vs. Sith would be MUCH cooler and show the potential of other class then Jedi and Sith.

Cool stuff, not as cool as Deceived but great, shame the game cannot resemble these cinematic's, but they are good to watch for sure :)

I thought it was cool that the troopers could actually (for a little while at least) hold their own against Sith and that they actually caught the Sith off guard.

I like how when the Jedi is in a saber clash and starts to make the tree fall she has the same amount of strength as when she was using 2 hands :P

Other then that its a pretty good trailer.

Yes, the "this doesn't look like kotor era" kept running through my head as well. Most particularly this was at the beginning when we saw the Titan-class cruisers flying over Alderan. Yeah, those weren't built then.

Hey, it's not the end of my world if they don't get the canon right, as long as the game is fun and enjoyable I'm not going to have an aneurysm over anything. But that's still no excuse to be stupid.

Yep, Republic ships fit in with the era, everything else didn't. I mostly got over that fact, but sometimes you can't ignore the blatantly copied Tie Fighters. I think I do prefer the Deceived trailer above this one.

Isn't it an established fact that all ships with "Twin Ion Engines" make that noise? They wouldn't be TIE Fighters, they're just using the ion engine technology that Raith Seinar rediscovers 3500 years in the future.

Really unimpressed.

Reminded me so much of the old Warhammer Online trailer

True. But combined with the black sleek look and the solar panels, it's just a Tie Fighter.

This (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Aurek_tactical_strikefighter) has it's roots in the A-wings. This one (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Leviathan) in the Star Destroyers.

But somehow they.. 'feel' different, where the Republic Troopers and Sith ships do not. Take a look at the Sith player vehicle and you'll say 'TIE fighter.'

They aren't breaking canon by the way. Not technically speaking. They use slightly different stuff. But it's so obviously inspired by other sources it feels canon-breaking...

I thought the delevopers wanted to go beyond what they did with the Kotor games. From the look of the masks, its like their trying to bring back some of the original games.

I don't get why the troopers have to look like the clones from the prequels. And when I first was watching it, the Sith dude, looked almost identical to th Sith leader in the Decieved trailer.

Twins? I presume? (oh jeez, lets not go down the clone angle again. *hits head on table*) -Lets get a little more creativity here, developers.

SciFiGeek17, that IS the guy from the "Deceived" trailer. This trailer is set before last year's, and it shows why he started wearing that face mask. It's more creativity than you think. :)

Really? I didn't see that. Sorry.

This trailer explain why he needed a jaw-prosthesis and more body armor (cybernetic replacements?) in the deceived trailer.

OT:
Does anyone get the feeling the customising options will...lack?
Watching this trailer, I presume Sith Warrior-Juggernauts will ALWAYS wear heavy armor and Jedi Consulars will always wear simple robes.

I hope it's possible to change stuff like this...I'd like a simple-clad Sith Warrior, or a single blade Inquisitor with normal robes instead of the Warlock robes..

RogueJedi86
06-16-2010, 09:05 AM
You could be a Sith Marauder instead, they'll focus on lighter armor. If a Juggernaut is gonna be tanking, he'll want heavier robes/armor. :) Plus BioWare is making dozens of armor sets for each class, which means there will be plenty of variety. It's not like all armor for a given class/advanced class will just be palette swaps of all the same armor. Just look at the dozen so far varieties of Trooper armor we've seen. :)

Crazy to me that people can watch this and not think it's awesome, but some SW "fans" never cease to amaze me with the things they find to complain about.

I agree the first trailer was better, but this one was still awesome for me.

Word. :carms:

Though I don't need it to be 'perfect' per se.. but enough of the retcon-ing LA. Please.

The bed has already been made.. now make your future stories fit the bill rather than conveniently changing the past to make it work

I DO however like these ToR CGI trailers as of late. Pretty wicked stuff to watch, and more entertaining than the PT AND CW combined.. hehehe. Hey George! Make a new tv series using this, and THEN you've got something ;)

Amen you both. The church of Z has spoken! :D

I completely agree with ChainZ too. The trailers are quit epic. Especially compared with the canon-rape called The Clone Wars. I'm still hoping on a live-action series though.
And a Starkiller depicted in the old-fashioned way in it...some Quinlan Vos and I'll be even more happier.

I'm with you - I complain about some things too - just not EVERYTHING. I'm not saying you do personally - just some "fans". Lucas raped my childhood, nothing past ESB has been any good, etc.

My point here was that this trailer was amazing, and most of the comments here on this thread have been negative. It mostly makes me think that there's nothing LA could do that wouldn't draw complaints from those type of "fans", but if they did nothing, those "fans" would complain about that too.

I can understand some of the Republic gear (it IS the same Republic of the CW), but for the most part all the TOR equipment looks way too dependent on things from the films. FCOL, it's screaming "Galactic Republic vs. Galactic Empire" more and more. If only fans could make mods to make things more unique...

RogueJedi86
06-16-2010, 10:39 PM
At least it beats the one-sided "Rebel Alliance vs. Galactic Empire" conflict where the Rebels should've had absolutely zero chance at success. Or the "Galactic Republic vs. Confederacy of Independent Systems" conflict where one side is 99% droids. With both factions being strong, there's a lot of potential. Plus we've already seen Rebel-ish underdog status on the Republic side, specifically during the breaking of the Hylian Way Blockade. This faction setup had the most potential. If it was Rebels vs. Empire, we would've had 99% guerilla missions on the Rebel side, which wouldn't be very interesting for storylines.

I agree that the overall aesthetic feel is a bit too close to the prequel era. I thought KOTOR had the perfect balance of making everything immediately recognizable but unique nonetheless.

But that being said, **** these trailers are great.

As for the canon stuff, after following this series for 30+ years I find I don't really get bent out of shape by recons anymore. We went through this once before in the late 90's, so I guess to me it doesn't seem to be as big a deal this time around. As much as I would prefer they didn't retcon, and as much as some changes seem really stupid (Ashoka), I know it will all get sorted eventually.

So does that make me more or less of a fan? I've lost track...

You use the term Ahsoka without crying or swearing. I've given up on you :xp:
No, but seriously. You can probably see the charm of the old trilogy shine through this product, like I do. The details don't really bother...the big 'SW space opera feel' is there. :)

THANKYOU!!! God Ive been wanting to say that this whole time of reading these posts!!!
Both the trailors are equally dipped in awesomeness!!:thmbup1:

The only thing I would even complain about was the "stopping a lightsaber with her hand" part. WTFIT? It's pure energy...it should have gone right through her hand, and her chest. !!...thoughts anyone?
