Greetings, modding community!

It is my distinct pleasure to announce the development of my first mod, in collaboration with Centenar and the rest of Team Dantooine:

The Return To Dantooine and the Search for Survivors.

First some background.
Dantooine. A planet of farmers and simple-minded folk. A place of strength, and the location of a Jedi Enclave complete with a Jedi Council.

During the JEDI CIVIL WAR, it was bombed on orders from the sinister DARTH MALAK, by his flag ship the LEVIATHAN shortly before capturing the EBON HAWK.

Despite this surprise attack, the planet wasn't destroyed completely. The settlers that survived emerged from their shelters to find the Jedi Enclave bombed and deserted. Immediately, everyone wanted to blame the Jedi. However, a young woman, Terena Adare, knew that the Jedi had done so much for them, and began to speak out against those who hated the Jedi.

Meanwhile, aboard the Leviathan, the Jedi Revan learns of his or her past life as a Sith Lord.

However, rather than simply destroying the entire planet, the Sith occupied the planet and opressed the farmers in much the same way they did to the citizens of Taris before they bombed the city. After the learning of the destruction of the Enclave, and the shocking revelation on the Leviathan, the Jedi Revan, wanting to redeem himself, decides to travel to Dantooine to try to help anyone s/he can. Landing on a grassy plain, so as not to draw attention to him or herself, s/he sets out to find the survivors, and try to drive the Sith off the planet...or aid them in their campaign of oppression

This modification will feature (tentatively):

Dantooine restored as a vistable planet post-Leviathan, with new quests and NPCs used as a way to remind LS Jedi Revan of the horrors his own empire unleashed. (or, alternatively, as a way for DS Jedi Revan to further his journey back to the Dark Side)
Three "Acts," with seamless transitions.

Arriving on Dantooine and forming a plan;
Searching the surface
Arriving at Khoonda (Matale Estate) and the (non-canonical) first Battle of Khoonda Plains

New characters to meet and interact with:

A young Terena Adare, who you can encourage to step up as a leader (which would explain her love and respect for the Jedi, and her recognition of the Ebon Hawk)
various Jedi that survived the bombs, explaining how the Jedi on the Star Forge suddenly appeared. (the live ones)
a young Kaevee, explaining her appearance (or, actually, non-appearance (thank you LucasArts...) in the Jedi enclave five years later

The return of several other characters:

Jon
Gar
Other characters from the Pre-Leviathan Dantooine

New areas to explore:

Grassy plains (landing zone; reskinned Unknown World Central Beach)
Sith Base Grounds/Sith Base (using a reskin of Sandral Estate interior, occupied by the Sith and one of the locations of the Battle of Khoonda Plains
Destroyed/Damaged Jedi Enclave (reskinned Enclave, with rubble/fire everywhere, along with Sith scavenging the wreckage and treasures to be found)
Matale Grounds, with Matale Estate and Estate interior (reskin of Sandral Estate interior), with Survivors taking refuge there

Fully voiced survivors with new dialog lines, expanding on the stories of Jon, Gar, and some other KotOR Dantooine settlers
Dark side and Light side conclusions to the quests and the planet as a whole (in the same vein as KOTOR2, if you take the Dark Side approach and kill the Jedi/Survivors the planet will suffer, but if you spare them then the future of the planet is determined to be 'happier'

a few Custom Lightsabers used by the Jedi survivors with good, but not extremely high, bonuses
a few Custom Robes worn by the Jedi Survivors, with good, but not extremely high, bonuses

Terena Adare: (younger, not the KotOR II version): Following the bombardment of the planet, a Young Terena Adare gathered support. With the aid of the Jedi Revan, she brought the settlers together to form Khoonda, the loose government seen by the Jedi Exile five years later. Vrook Lamar, having survived the bombardment, stayed to aid the settlers from afar even after Revan left to defeat Malak and save Republic.
Vrook Lamar: Jedi Master, member of the Dantooine Jedi Council until the final weeks of the Jedi Civil War. When Dantooine fell, he stayed to help the settlers that avoided death from the bombs. He was eventually forced to take refuge in the Enclave Sublevels, and was eventually captured by mercenaries intent on selling him to the exchange.

parties interested in voicing one of these characters should send me a PM at a later date. Parties interested in contributing their skills to this mod, please post here with your area of expertise.

Project Status: Delayed


**NOTE: if it wasn't obvious, this mod is based on a "what-if" scenario exploring what could have happened if Revan returned to Dantooine following his escape from the Leviathan**

Note - this mod project will be reduced significantly in size. it will be complete and provide a satisfying story but will be open-ended enough for a potential sequel down the road if response is positive enough. despite the apparent lack of progress on this mod it is not cancelled. as before Release date is :wid:

Since you guys will be doing the scripting yourself and will be learning as you go i would make a list of what is the lowest amount of content for a release meaning things like a recruiting new party member is not the most important while having the modules work and re-skinned with all the placeables and npcs along with the main quest working is the main focus. Once that's done you can add more layers of the new recruit option and other ideas expressed in your thread.

The reason you want to look at the lowest amount/level for a release is so you don't get bogged down with things that are cool and add something special but will add a good number of production time and take your focus off the main quest and getting it working.

Basically work on making the cake and not the icing.
I say this since many mods have started with icing and end up with nothing playable after a few months when they could have 2 modules ingame.

I appreciate the positive feedback! The new party member is a low priority. As of now, the most important items are the modules (primarily the plains/enclave), and the implementation. The "icing" as you called it (great metaphor btw) will be saved for a potential update if the mod is well recieved by the general public. as of now, only the rudimentary pieces of the landing area are included. Screenshots to follow...and I will keep your advice in mind.

I'm pretty good with the modules, dialouge, NPCs.
(I can do pretty good with starting on changing the pre existing modules (Can't really reskin or "modle". I can do pretty good with dialouge. I can set the NPCs pretty easily and add the dialouge to them) PM me (if I can help on this)

this was a mod I wanted to see ever since i first played through the Leviathan. I always thought you should be able to return to dantooine again. after playing through the communitiy's mods, and after getting good feedback and an offer of aid from a couple people, the mod was started.

as of right now the "Dantooine Beach" and a couple other modules are in early testing phases.
screenies to follow if I can figure out how to capture them. :rofl:

Get Adobe Photoshop CS5 and convert the TGA image into JPG.

In the SWkotor have you added the screenshot Line. Becuase on "Vista" when you press Prt Scrn it saves the file as a TGA in the Compatible files or something.

No, he can't find the tga. After you press print screen it should show up in your kotor directory :)

Then do what LDR said (though I would recommend GIMP).

Hey guys thanks for the replies

due to my ineptitude at Print Screen's uses, I am currently unable to produce Screenies. I can however, list the modules being used as the basis for the mod so you get an idea of what it is.

Download frapps for ingame video recording and screen shots. Very useful:-)

I was thinking you can always have another opportunity to kill juhani. You can have her turn to the darkside seeing her former master Quatra killed.

With the characters from korribian..one issue is what if korribian is the last planet to vist them you can not do anything to them if they are there. If you want one or a few of them to appear then have it only if Korribian was finished.

That's a good point on the Korriban characters, and a good idea for Juhani

As for Juhani...I always kill her anyway, but that would be a good idea. you return to Dantooine and tell her, that she'll spend eternity laying in the plains blah blah blah Revan is Reborn!

As for the Korriban characters: that's true. I will pass this along to the scripters...have them appear only if Korriban is finished. Although you could always go to Dantooine after all the Star Maps, and then move to the Star Forge? that's a good work around in terms of that, have it open up after all the Star Maps as an "Unfinished business" type thing.

Perhaps the trees closest to the Enclave should be stumps or charred from the attack on the building.

As for the Korriban characters: that's true. I will pass this along to the scripters...have them appear only if Korriban is finished. Although you could always go to Dantooine after all the Star Maps, and then move to the Star Forge? that's a good work around in terms of that, have it open up after all the Star Maps as an "Unfinished business" type thing.

Always figured that was more or less your original intent.....to return to Dantooine before going to the SF system. As it is, you have to hit Korriban as the first or second map anyway for either Yuthura or Kel to appear on Dantooine. I think that as long as you can remove the conditional (is it hardwired into the game?) that prevents your return to Dantooine post-Leviathan, then it shouldn't matter whether you go there before or after the last map. If you wish to make it "unfinished business", you could no doubt write up a script that makes it necessary to return to Dantooine AFTER the 4th map, even if you've visited it again right after the Leviathan (or any time before acquiring the 4th map).

that's an interesting idea, Totenkopf. indeed, my original vision included going to Dantooine right before the Star Forge/Unknown System as a way to cement your LS/DS choices (although the lure of Bastila may still prove too much for the hormone driven Male (or female ;)) Revan to handle, and he/she may still succumb to the Dark side....(but that's a different discussion in and of itself!...) it would also give more context to Administrator Adare's rise to power (Revan encourages her, seeing her potential as a great leader, etc) and would explain the dissapearance of so many beloved K1 characters (Jon, Gar, etc) if for example Revan arranges for a shuttle off-world or kills them.

I wonder if there is cut dialogue that you could use for the NPCs, or reuse dialogue from other parts of the game. This would help you put voice actors into your mod.

Looking good guys. Best of luck with your project. Quick question, roughly how much extra gameplay time would you expect this would add to the game? Certainly would add more depth.

I don't know exactly, but if I had to ballpark it I'd say at least maybe an hour, probably more, with the exploration, and the quests that are planned. further specifics for time added to the game will be given when the mod is closer to completion.

It sort of depends, if you use speed like the turbo cheat or force speed it could go a little faster.
Once the module skinning is finished the mod will go a bit faster (I think at least).
and I think Dustil is winning at the moment.
More screenshots will be provided in time.

haha well yeah if you use turbo the entire game goes by at lightning speeds. but if you go at the normal speed, probably the first quest will take you 20 minutes, the second one (which may feature a battle of some sort) might be more like 30, so maybe probalby 50 minutes, but as I said, we'll know more once we get closer to the final stages of development

Interesting poll, but I remember that Zhar, Vandar, and Vrook all survived because most of them went on to Kataar prior to TSL. Can anyone else remember if anyone else survived? Those who have played through K2 should know.

Deesra survived, as did many of the settlers (the enclave got hit more then their homes)
likely, Jon and Gar survived. Adum Larp survived (he's in K2)

Elise Montagne: With her you could have manu ways to meet her based on the quests outcome.

e.g. With the man she meet they are together in the shelter bit

She's crying and next to her there is a broken droid

You find her in the plains still searching for the droid

There are many ways to go with her character as her quest had many outcomes

And way good work keep it up :)

I think it would be cool see results of the choices you made on dantoonie on the first visit.

You mentioned the woman and the droid. You can have something happen wither you took the quest, didn't take it and how you solved it.
Ex if the droid come back then you see it save the woman's life from an attacking Sith just as you enter the scene and end up saving the woman.

You can do this with a few of these quests but with the feuding family..that might be hard since there are many options and results. This could be mentioned easier through dialogue by a npc you meet who tell you what hapepn to them and where they might hiding etc...

And remember you don't need to show everything, just a few moments that tie into earlier quests.

Exactly Logan, this isn't going to be like a quest where everything you did on Dantooine earlier is revisited, because likely some of the people died--especially the Sandrals and Matales (I think the greeter woman at Khoonda mentioned that he died in the attack)

wait I just remembered something! When you go to Khonda, there is a droid outside your ship and if you use your skills on him he says something about:
the attack and I think that HE IS the one droid at that DOOR near the exit of the enclave

TIPS:
When you finish in the enclave and leave I thinkt that there should be an exlplosion at the first door because in KotOR 2 it says something about it only left the sublevels intact (the attack)

This is an interesting project, and I see it has a lot of retcon value. As many I always wanted to see the post-attack Dantooine. I'm also confident with this having Logan being part of team. :)

I wrote some similar project some time ago, which linked destroyed Dantooine with destroyed Taris, but as it had a huge scope I forget about it, so it's good to read you'll work first on the basics to make this mod exists and to really happen. :)

I suggest to make Kni (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kni) to appear here: would be funny having him surviving another world massacre.
I also see nobody says anything about Belaya, I think some mention about her surviving or not the attack or appearance (if she did not passed to the Dark Side) should be considered.
If you make some other known character to appear, I think some re-skining would help, for example have Deesra losing an eye or some implants because of the attack....
You think it would be possible to see the Temple as we see it in TSL? With all the holes on the building, I mean.

well so far, if you take a look at the group, we have Belaya dead in the academy. For the damaged exterior, I think that was part of the model rather than a skin, so the best we can probably do is skin it to look damaged

What if you pick Darkside and Kill Juhani? If you do see runs off and joins the sith :) or have you made it so a script says she only appears if you picked LS.

Also Juhani could have some dialog when you find the body

I don't know what's happening with the scripts. at the moment nothing appears for me (those screenshots were taken by Centenar, who is collaborating with me on this project)

he may have used her body so it appears regardless, as I have managed to sneak by her without triggering the scene where she damns me for killing Juhani. (usage of the 'warp' cheat i believe). the idea for dialog for Juhani when you find her body is interesting, also.

Interesting that you mention Kataar happening before the end of K1 because Vandar is at the Star Forge battle, and gives you the medal afterward on what appears to be Dantooine's Enclave. Am I wrong?

I am sorry if I did not clearly state what I meant.

I'll try again and try to be clearer this time:

Katarr took place roughly I think 1-2 years before the events of TSL. (which in itself took place five years after KotOR 1)

This modification would take place during the events of KotOR meaning Vandar and all the other victims of the Katarr Attack would be alive.

EDIT: and for the record the medal scene takes place on the Unknown World Temple, on a balcony that is visible but not accessible in the game. (you can see the architechture is identical to the Rakata temple exterior and if you look carefully you can see the markers for the area transitions on the area around the temple

A note for the public:

even though the poll says open until July 2011, any votes cast after October 1, 2010 will not be counted

to a moderator: if possible please change the poll close date to 10/1/2010

Well the problem with meeting Vandar, is that after it at the star fprge is like "WAH, OH!!! You survived!!" so it wouldn't make a lot of sense to see him before.

Seikan: that is valid. however given that you crash land on the Unknown World, which in most circumstances would be deadly, you could say that he is suprised that Jedi (or Darth) Revan survived that ordeal. hence he would be validly shocked to see you alive.

EDIT: and for the record the medal scene takes place on the Unknown World Temple, on a balcony that is visible but not accessible in the game. (you can see the architechture is identical to the Rakata temple exterior and if you look carefully you can see the markers for the area transitions on the area around the temple

Perhaps the area which that scene occurs in could be the opposite side of the Temple, but more likely, its the Temple Exterior area that you are able to get to in game. The same fallen Obelisk is present when the scene opens, that is there when you first see the ramp.

It probably was something BioWare intended, but scraped for some reason. Due to the way most of those pictures look(like Bastila's head model being, well, not as good as the one in game), they are likely from the Beta version of the game, or the one were the GUI looked closer to Jade Empire's. That, and I doubt BioWare did much to the Academy itself(due to the way the area around it looks just as pristine as it does in the games).

if it's in the game, I wasn't aware of it. and, further, the story line of this mod has nothing to do with any potential plot of a pre-existing feature in the game. i know that sounds like a cut and paste disclaimer but i merely desired to add a feature I was never aware of to the game to expand and enhance your experience. if you dont like it, then by all means dont use it.

Might I also suggest, if you're going to feature a younger Terena Adare, and if you haven't thought of it already, that you also feature Azkul. He was a Sith Commando and part of a Special Forces detachment during the Jedi Civil War, but no further details are given regarding where he was stationed, meaning that you could probably have some fun with him. If you're so inclined, you can place him in there as a formidable antagonist that the PC must fight, but fail to kill, only resulting in the loss of his left eye.

It is also possible that Dopak could make an appearance, as he was a veteran of both the Mandalorian Wars and the Jedi Civil War, but what sides he fought in during both are ambiguous. Once again, that probably means that you could have some fun with him, but for all anyone knows, he could have simply been a Mercenary throughout both wars.

This has great potential as a story gap filler/clarification mod. I look forward to the result.

thanks for the ideas, I'll keep those in mind. Sherruk was a character i hadnt considered because in kotor once a character dies, they're dead (which is why you dont fight calo nord on taris, he was meant to survive that) so it would take some extra work to make sherruk not die on dantooine the first time

thats the thing though, once a character is flagged as 'killed' that appearance cant be used again, so those other methods may not work. I will definitely keep it in mind though, as that is a creative idea

Maybe you could have Sherruk run away instead of getting killed when the player first fights him. He could drop a sack or something with his stuff so you would still be able to complete the original Dantooine Mandalorians quest.

I mean, this is a great idea, and I completely respect you guys for this. I'm so looking forward to the release of this mod - that is if it's not dead. But it's just that maybe you should keep Vrook or one of the other jedi masters on Dantooine, so that if Revan should return, he or she should get some guidance, training, special power, feat, or items that helps the player through the rest of the game.

Couple things:

1) this mod is meant to take place after the Leviathan and before the Unknown World (so Bastila is captured)

2) The point isn't so much to oversee it's recovery as it is for Revan to find redemption. Kind of like a pre-unknown world Dark Side/Light Side choice. Does he go to Dantooine and help them or does he go there and attempt to set the settlers back even further?

3) it's not dead.

and if you think it's pointless you don't have to download it :)
