Hey folks,

Both Walking Carpets and Imperialist Meatbags were assigned to server Vornskr. Before you commit that to memory: Do you guys want to keep this as our server, or choose one with a cooler/better/easier to pronounce name?

The benefit of keeping Vornskr as our server name is that our guild is automatically created and if you've been accepted to the guild on the official site, it will notify you that that is the server where the guild is.

The downside is that it's a stupid name! Personally I'd like to be on a server that sounds cool when I tell people what server I play on. You can see a partial list here: http://swtorhumanrelations.com/2011/12/12/swtor-server-list/ if you'd like to suggest an alternate server. Remember to pick a US West Coast server.

I'm not voting, because personally I don't really care about the name, so I'll go with whatever everyone else chooses.... which makes me wonder why I even posted. :/

I'm new to MMOs so I was wondering why the change in the name? What does this impact?

I know from beta testing servers like darth bandon which i was on had a cool name but way over populated and had a hard time getting on (I know it was a stress test but the numbers will go to these know names)

Also If we change it will this be done before we start making our characters tomorrow if we get the email to play?

This is my first MMO,..So forgive my noob-ness =)

@logan23 - server name is purely cosmetic, pretty much the only thing it will effect is overall server population as people tend to flock towards the "cooler" sounding names initially. I wished they would pick up server names from Galaxies, they had some cool ones like Starsider and Sunrunner.

I'd say stick with it simply because I'm lazy, but honestly, it all depends on server population. I'm not looking forward to login queues. Maybe we won't have that problem with our server?

Edit: I guess it also depends on PVE vs PVP and server location.

Before we got our server name I kept going on and on about how I really hope it's a cool name and all that... and then when we got it I was like "WTF?"... but then after that initially reaction I just kind of want to get into the game and get my characters set up and the guild ready for everyone so I don't really care about the name of the server.

As long as people can read it on our site and then locate it on the server list then that's fine with me.

Hey since The walking Carpets are adversaries of Imperialist Meatbags......Does that mean they are on the same server?

That's right, both guilds will be on the same server whether we stick with Vornskr or choose to go with another server.

Hmmm.... as long as the server is quick and reliable? If there is one called "Dancing Prancing Pony" we should switch to that because we'll be the best (and only) guild on there!

Okay, just a heads up, we're sticking with Vornskr. It may not be as cool as some of us had hoped, but we may as well press on and deal with more important things.

So when you get into TOR, look for the Vornskr server and remember it's a US West, PvE server. Just look for the gold flag if you've already joined the guild during on the web site. If not, then look at the official guild threads stickied on this forum for further details on how to join.

Also, here's some additional info if you need more help: http://www.swtor.com/blog/guild-deployment-details

Thanks for your patience everyone.

Oh come on, Vornskr is quite cool!

I see server names that are much worse...Darth Revans Mask, Hex Droid, Space Slug arenīt exactly cool huh?
I twittered my nephew the server name, he'll be able to join the guild the second he get's the 'early acces' mail.

btw, if you were in The Walking Carpets or Imperialist Meatbags, prior to the pre-launch guild lockout on the official site, there will be a flag next to our server on your server list, and when you create your first character it will offer you the option to immediately join our Guild instead of having to wait until you get to the 2nd planet.

Some of us have yet to create a character because they haven't got the early -access mail yet :p not everyone's as luck as you!

I sort of forgot about Lucasforums for a while in there, so I did not even think about early guild stuff, but I'm on right now.

I have to leave for work in 7 hours though, and I haven't slept yet...this could be interesting...

Hey just checked a website and it says the server is full.A server listed as "Full" can be a bit deceiving because while there is no actual total character limit for a server, the server will be listed as "Full" when the current allowable traffic is nearing its peak, if that makes sense.

I got in a couple of hours after Mav and Jeff got in... but I really need to take a break right now and get at least a little bit of sleep... haven't slept for 2 days straight x.x

Hey just checked a website and it says the server is full.

I wouldn't trust the site. I saw the samething today on the TOR site, wrote about it in skype. acdcfanbill reported that the site was wrong. He wrote in game the status said light. That was at 2:11 Central Time.

Yea, you were right.
I got in the other day and there were no full servers :)

Well I'm in a 20min queue to get in atm in what would be the local peak time over there (7pm PST), so the server is not wanting for people obviously. Guess any concerns about the name adversely affecting the population can be laid to rest, at least in the short term.

EDIT: ...and after playing for 15-20 mins, got disconnected right in the middle of a fight and dumped back to another 20 min login queue. Good times. I think I'll be avoiding peak time on that server like the plague. Good thing I've decided to roll my Republic scum alts on an EU server. At that time it's the middle of the night over there, so there is no load and no queues (at least at the moment anyway). Kind of like an enforced parallel levelling.

Have to sadly say that the lag on the Vornskr server is too much for me and my nephew...we tried to play it but there was too much lag between clicking and actually doing the damage...that would truly suck in flashpoints and stuff...

I still have a character on the Vornskr server, but I'm playing at a European server at the moment...I'll try to play at Vornskr some time in the future though, maybe the lag was temporarily.

DarthParametric
12-16-2011, 06:09 AM
It was definitely nasty today. I would suggest the peak period for the sever (say 3pm to 10pm PST) should be avoided by those of us outside the US. Although that being said, even a guy I know on the server that lives in California got disconnected around the same time I did, so perhaps their network just needs some tweaking.

Lynk Former
12-16-2011, 06:32 AM
@ Ztalker: It's not too bad, plus I know about the kind of lag you were talking about since I felt it too, that kind of thing would only really be deadly in PvP games.

It's not perfect but I'm willing to put up with it to be able to play with the rest of the folks on LFN. Of course if these were "hardcore" guilds I know that the members of the guild wouldn't tolerate a guild leader who was suffering even a tiny bit of lag. But I'm sure the rest of you guys are much more forgiving XD

I'm assuming this will calm down just before launch and then at launch we will see this issue pop up for a few days.

I'm assuming the maintience they have scheduled for the servers for the 3 days over the next week and half will get rid of some of theses.

I'm keeping to two servers right now, the guild and a RP east coast server (I live in Nj). And also only make 2 toons till after launch so I can go back to guild server and make a few more toons.

Don't want to spread your toons to to many servers due to the legacy system's future perks .
