For those of you who may not know a team has been working on restoring a lot of content to KotOR 1 (http://deadlystream.com/forum/topic/885-official-k1r-progress-thread/) as of late. Now, the team's been hard at work and it's my pleasure to announce that a demo has been prepared for release to the public. This demo will include mostly cut Taris content, with the addition of a few more restorations on Dantooine (For more details see ReadMe below).

DESCRIPTION

KotOR 1 Restoration is an attempt to restore almost all the content that was cut from the game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic by BioWare Corp. Of course, these restorations will be within reason and things that were cut because they did not fit with the plot, and cannot be made to fit with the plot, will most definitley NOT be restored.

Remember, this is only the demo, not the full mod.

RESTORED CONTENT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Most of the content that has been released in this demo is from Taris. However, there are few pieces of restored content that pertain to Dantooine as well as a difficulty option restoration.

- Impossible Difficulty, a cut option for difficulty that is harder than the Vanilla "Hard" difficulty
- Carth dialogue when the PC first awakens on Taris, Carth makes a few comments about the PC's injuries. (Thanks to zbyl2 for this!)
- Lower City, numerous restorations to the Lower City
- Under City, numerous restorations to the Under City
- Restoration of the Black Vulkar Base Sublevel
- Restored Droid Items
- Restoration of some dialgoue with Niklos in the Uppper City Cantina
- Restoration of the Duel Ring announcer in the Taris Upper City Cantina. The announcer will be available to speak to in between fights.
- Zaerdra Swoop Platform Dialogue, Zaerdra will make some final comments to the PC on the prototype accelerator before intitiating your first run with it
- Sith Base, numerous restorations
- Sarna and Yun Genda are available to talk to members of the same sex and can be used to further the plot of Taris. Albeit, in different ways than they normally do.
- Iriaz Restoration, returns the Iriaz to the plains of Dantooine. (Thanks to Seamhiann for this!)
- Garrum and Tar'eelok Restoration, returns a cut padawan and master to the Jedi Enclave. (Thanks to Seamhiann for this!)
- Restoration of cut items within the Jedi Enclave
- Shen and Rahashia Indecent Proposal, the PC can make a rather indecent, and awkward, proposal to either Shen or Rahasia depending upon the PC's gender.
- The file called plc_glowpudl.utp had the name of "Glowing Puddle" however when placed in game it looked like a blood puddle. The model file and textures have been changed so now the glowing puddle placeable makes a glowing puddle of green liquid. It can be seen in the new module, tar_m03ac, or the swoop platform non-racing version.
- Modified Iriaz from Seamhiann's modules so there were less of them, they fought against the Kath Hounds, and usually stayed in their small areas.

BUG FIXES

There weren't too many bugs in KotOR 1, thus there is such a short list.

-Fixed female Jedi on Dantooine so she'd keep on walking after talking to her.

INSTALLATION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An installation which involved the TSL Patcher has been made ready for your use and is the simplest and easiest way to carry out installation.
If you wish, for whatever reason, to not use TSL Patcher it will require you to manually copy and paste files from the TSLPatchdata folder into the specific folders they need to be placed in.


Note: The K1R team is not responsible for any incompatibility issues that may arise from the use of this mod in conjunction with other mods. Also, in order to provide the best feedback for us we recommend that you play the K1R Demo with NO other mods installed.

TSL PATCHER INSTALLATION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Double click K1R Demo Installer.exe found in the main directory of the demo folder.
2) Click the button labeled Install Mod.
3) Click yes to the box that'll pop up... if you wish to proceed with installation.
4) Watch as all the little file names and progress reports scroll by and wait until the installer is complete.

MANUAL INSTALLATION

1) Open up the tslpatchdata folder.
2) Copy all files with a .WAV extension into the Streamwaves folder found in your main SWKotOR Directory.
3) Copy all files with a .MOD extension into the Modules folder found in your main SWKotOR Directory.
4) Copy all remaining files into the Override folder found in your main SWKotOR Directory. If there is not one present, create one.

KNOWN BUGS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- When in tar_m03ac or tar_m10ab you will not be told to gather your party before venturing forth when trying to go through an area transition with a scattered party. Instead, you will be able to walk through and nothing will happen. Just walk back out of the area transition, gather your party, and head back through. This issue will be fixed in the final version of KotOR 1 Restoration. (Unless I (Fallen Guardian), the K1R team, or any other person we ask for help cannot assist in this matter.)
- The citizens wandering around in the lower city and the lower city apartments may sometimes be a bit overzealous in their attempts to defend themselves. (AKA going after the Vulkars when the Vulkars aren't even attacking them.) It's not really a bug per se, it's just a little thing that may break the immersion, depending on your point of view.
- The Iriaz on Dantooine will actively pursue enemies in favor of helping the PC. This is only because I have not been able to make a faction that's hostile to hostile factions, but neutral towards everyone else. Basically, it's the same deal as the citizens in the lower city apartments.

BUG REPORTING

There are 2 ways to report bugs. 1: Post your issues in the Taris Upper City Emporium Thread. 2: PM your issues to ZM90 at Deadlystream.


TO REPORT THROUGH TARIS UPPER CITY EMPORIUM

1) Go to the Taris Upper City Emporium section of the Knights of the Old Republic branch of LucasForums "http://www.lucasforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=645" and either create an account or login to your existing one.
2) Find the thread called "KotOR 1 Restoration Demo".
3) If the bug has not been reported already, post a VERY DETAILED description of what is occurring in your game. A member of K1R will likely report back to you within a week.

TO REPORT THROUGH PM

1) Go to DeadlyStream (http://deadlystream.com/) and search for the user ZM90 (http://deadlystream.com/forum/user/88-zm90/)

The initial fight that happens between the Vulkars and the Beks when you first enter the Lower City doesn't happen. They're just standing there. Is this supposed to occur?

EDIT: It works when I wear Sith armor, but doesn't when I switch to some other attire.

I encountered the same bug as well.

Hmm, that's strange. I'll look into it, but first I have a question. Were either of you approached by a Black Vulkar before the cutscene occurred? The Black Vulkar would've been telling you that the area was Black Vulkar turf and that you'd pay for intruding.

Yeah I believe that was the "Vulkar Spy." I had to click him fore the dialogue to trigger. When I fought him without Sith armor, the other gang-members remained stagnant.

Ahh, then it's most likely the way his dialogue was intended to be triggered. Mark that down fixed for the final version. It wasn't game-breaking, correct?

I didn't test it afterwards, sorry. But everything worked fine with the Sith armor equipped. The spy approached me, then the whole gang fight. Also, I was surprised when I went into the apartments. I like that it's at least populated now. Nice touch:thmbup1:

EDIT: Just finished the Matrik quest... People stood right in front of the apartment, meaning witnesses. Not a real problem, just thought it was funny.
EDIT 2: Well I like how you guys fixed the one bug where if you talked to Hendar after saving him from the rakghoul, you would get LS Points, but if you talked to Hesther, you wouldn't - or was it the other way around? I forget. But there is another bug in the Undercity that wasn't resolved, and this one's more troublesome:
When you obtain the rakghoul serum, you can go to cure some infected villagers.

Thank you both for the feedback and I think it was about time someone would do a restoration project similar to KOTOR 2 : TSL. Let's hope the site will be back up soon.

In regards to edit 1, I'll see about fixing that just for realism's sake.

As for edit 2, we didn't touch anything regarding the rakghoul serum in the Undercity so that may well be a vanilla bug.

It is a vanilla bug. But so is the issue about gaining LS points from Hendar, but not Hesther - which I think this mod fixed.

Hello again everyone, I have been testing the restoration mod on a new save and I have found a few things(bugs maybe) that I would like to post here.

The first thing is that the game is a little slower than before(I have been running with Anisotropy filter x16 and High graphics, impossible difficulty ) Before I installed the mod everything was going great now it is a bit laggy , very little almost unnoticeable but it's there. Also the cinematics take some more time to load and they are going a bit slower too. And another thing is when the sith officer on taris invites you to the party none of the npcs there fall down and the sith officer disappears and the quest is not advancing. I am still on taris and there are considerable changes and I enjoy the mod!

P.S. I have a question with what mods is it compatible? What about mods that alter the points you spend on feats and jedi powers?

That's a known bug and we are working on fixing it.

It should be compatible with most mods, seeing as it uses the TSLPatcher. However, it is suggested you install this mod first over any other mod.

Thank you for the feedback. Then it must be another issue that the game is slower or a hardware issue I'll check it on. If you install it after another mod ? Is the mod going to work/change anything or there will be vanilla again?

Basically it'll work, but it'll overwrite any mods that use the same .MOD files we use.

Hello again ! I have another issue to post...on taris , undercity , when you give the rakghoul serum to the republic officer next to space pod and (blah blah blah) he hears something and a rakghoul attacks him. The first hit is fine(he is not dying) and then the scene/cinematic stops there with the rakghoul staring at the officer, I reloaded the game 3 times and still the same. I am posting it here because I had impossible difficulty . When I changed into difficult the republic officer died with the first hit and the cinematic/scene ending.

P.S. I hope I am not disturbing you in any way, I am saying this because I posted a lot of times here ...

Hmmm, I'll look into that. Strange that it only happened while you had the impossible difficulty on....

And don't worry, it's great that you're reporting bugs. It'd be a real bother if you found some but never told anyone.

I found another issue. After completing the "Promised Land" quest in the Undercity, the vanilla NPC's leave, but the added children remain. Parents can enjoy salvation, but the children become diseased orphans.

Yes you are right,there wouldn't be any benefit if I kept them(bugs) for myself. I have been thinking , about the bug/problem I told you earlier, maybe it is a scripting error because when you increase the difficulty the npcs get harder and harder to kill and the rakghoul hit is not powerful enough to kill the officer.I am not a modder but it is possible that something like this might have happened.

I think I found something else too. After becoming the champion of Taris dueling arena and you talk to Bendak Starkiller he says to talk to Zax and the he leaves. I talked to Zax and he always tells me the same to wait some time.

P.S. I have gone out and in the cantina a million times and that usually works and you can fight with Bendak , but not this time.

This is a demo of what they've done so far. Their main goal is to restore as much as possible, meaning everything BioWare cut - as long as it doesn't interfere with or contradict the main storyline.

That's great! So far they have restored only Taris right?What about dialogue option,for party members, that have been cut ? There is a mod about this though.

I think I have another bug. On Dantoine , when you begin the quest with the murdered settler and you reach the point where you have to find a motive , after you talk to Handon("did you know the victim") the quest stays right there and it is not advancing.

EDIT: The bug with the Black Vulkar cutscene has been addressed, fixed, and looks a lot better in my opinion. I'll get to work on fixing the bugs in the Lower City Apartments, and then the Undercity. I'll probably look at the cantina after that, and then Dantooine.

I doubt it. Maybe he would've reacted to your progression in the dueling ring but I doubt anything beyond that was planned.

Yeah, but that would be a whole separate mod.

Anyway, I've fixed the bugs reported in the Lower City Apartments (Basically just the realism breaking when the citizens witness Matrik.). I've also fixed the Black Vulkar Base issue in which you could just skip over the entire sublevel. Now you HAVE to do it. Now it's on to the Undercity!

EDIT: Fixed all the undercity bugs... almost. Before I go mess with the Republic Soldier dialogue I was wondering, has anyone been able to repeat the glitch that Darth D had, where the Republic soldier would not die whilst playing on the impossible difficulty?

EDIT 2: I've fixed the Dantooine issue in which you could not complete the Rickard and Handon and Bolook sidequest. Still waiting to see if anyone else encountered the impossible difficulty bug...

The footlocker in the Vulkar pool is missing.

If you side with the Vulkars and are about to begin the first swoop race, Zaerdra still contacts you on the communicator. She was long dead at this point in my playthrough. Even if she had cheats enabled, she wouldn't contact a Black Vulkar swoop rider.

Shouldn't the Hidden Beks patrolling the main throughfare in the Lower City become hostile to you if you kill Gadon? The guard at the entrance to the Bek base attacks you. The remaining Hidden Beks should follow suit.

Hello, may I ask when or if the next version will come out? Yeah this is a first time poster but I will surely bring feedback when I have tested this version myself :P

And, how do we know when we have reached at the end of the demo?
Does the program say something when it ends or do we just have to "guess" when it does? I assume it is at Dantooine it ends but if there isn't such a message I would hope the "next version" would bring it up so several more users will know when it ends and what to report.

As I may have already stated I haven't tested this mod(yet) but I will report any bugs I find.

As Im very excited for the full mod! I hope you're progressing very well with this mod :)

First off, thank you. The next version will come out when all the bugs reported for this version are fixed. There is no message telling the player when the demo is over, seeing as that's rather immersion breaking. Basically, nothing really new is added post Taris, aside from the Iriaz on Dantooine.

Which static door are you talking about? Do you mean the one at the end of the corridor the player does not spawn to when arriving in the module from the other area of the vulkar base?

Ah, that door. You have to talk with the mechanic and advance the plot far enough for that door to open.
