View Full Version : What About The Navys???

08-05-2001, 07:48 PM

What do you think about all the Navys on the game? I haven't seen much on them so I am asking in this.

08-05-2001, 07:50 PM
You just had to use your new found power, did you? :D

Yes, this is what happens when you give people power, they exploit it.

Anyways, i never really like the navy, but as far as the units go, they look pretty cool. I wonder how big of an aspect it will be in the game.

Try that and it should work. And, if you would be so kind, please post you screens that you got off of PC Gamer.

yes sorry leon, the guys wanted to see it. from now on i'm going to be posting images on my site once i figure them out...hope you guys enjoyed it......

08-05-2001, 11:36 PM
darthfergie, don't say "anyways"! I just had a nice long talk about it with Tie! The correct way to say it is anyway.
Oh, no there goes a blue bunny.... ;)

08-05-2001, 11:37 PM
Good Luck on that Site.
Now The Gungan and Trade Federation Navy...

08-06-2001, 03:40 AM
You really like that image option, don't you fergie ? :D
Why not simply link to the image in the screenshot-gallery of galacticbattles.com ? Saves you time, downloads these pages faster and still has the images just one click away..

So far i've mostly seen ships from the Gungan, TF and Imperial Navy.. Naboo ships haven't been seen at all yet.. Anyone got any ideas about those ?

Lord JayVizIon
08-06-2001, 04:09 AM
hey leon. you're still up? geezzz....

anyhow, no i don't have an idea how the naboo royal navy is going to look like. i'm still waiting for my star wars guide to vessels and vehicles that i won on ebay and even then, i'm not sure if they'll have pics of naboo navy vessels in there.

08-06-2001, 05:19 AM
Actually, I just got up again.. :D

Some of the Trade Federation ships look a bit weird to me. There's these huge rectangular ships in a small PC Gamer shot, and some round ships with what looks like a periscope / cannon on top..

Do you people think that all sea-units will be able to spot the underwater structures of the Gungans ?

08-06-2001, 08:30 AM
When they get close enough or are being fired apon. RA2. OR other civs could have a sonar tech! I didn't notice the page taking longer to load than norm. but that could be because I have Cable. I'll TRY to limit this POWER that I have found:D

08-06-2001, 10:55 AM
I dont really like the water units. If they took them out I would not mind. Then make more speciaized planes, like air to air fighters, bombers and spy planes that decloak cloaked units

08-06-2001, 11:21 AM
Ah yes but then they would have to have hover tanks to do-alls and the rest would be unde - . Plus Trade Fed. would have an enourmous advantage because their tanks do hover. I wonder if they can cross water anyway... What do you think guys...

Tie Guy
08-06-2001, 11:32 AM
I doubt it, that would seem like an unfair advantage for them. Whereas the Empire doesn't have any hover tanks, except maybe a speeder bike...

Anyway, they couldn't not include sea units, it jsut wouldn't be a RTS without em, and a huge element of the game would be wiped out. I don't use sea units that much either, but you have to include them into the game anyway. I also don't like the air as much, but how could you not have them?

08-06-2001, 12:10 PM
Don't use those double negatives
Sorry School relapse for a second there.
I think you right though. What would we do going over water if we didn't have a navy...(Tiberian Sun)

Sorry, but thats the imp navy (red boats are anyways) :D

Imp navy vs. Wookie Navy!!!

Lord JayVizIon

depending on the game or scenario being played, i.e. in starcraft you need air units to defend certain aspects of the map. think about it, if you were on a space platform mission where you had a transport carrying troops, who would protect it in the air? in water, how would the gungan underwater houses be defended if there were not any water units? air and water can come hand in hand if you use them in the right scenarios. the only rts i can think of where they both came in handy was warcraft II...

08-06-2001, 01:44 PM
nice points, people. i even found out i had a catch-phrase ! :D :D :D

I'm sure some hover-tanks can cross shallow-waters. In AOK, they made certain water-area's passable for units, so you could get from one island to the other on foot. Boats could cross those shallows as well, making them sort of like an intersection for water and sea.

In general, tanks and infantry won't be able to get into the water. the only possible exception i can think of would be Gungan-units, since their houses can be on land and in water already.
That way, Gungans would be sort of 'handicapped' if they played on Tatooine..

Water-units are seldom favored over time since they don't seem to give the same action as land-battles do..
Maybe with an air-force that can attack sea-units, it will change and we'll see some great three-way (land-water-air) battles..

actually leon, theyre more SOL on tatooine.....:D

08-06-2001, 01:53 PM
So Openly Lame ?
Simply Out of Luck ?
Stuck On Lumberpoles ?

sorry, i'm not familiar with the expression. :D

I won't play sea-units at all, can you believe that ?! I don't with AOK, and so far the GB-sea-units haven't bowled me over yet. Air-units is a different story. i consider them a highlight of the game.

08-06-2001, 01:54 PM
remember they do have the Fambaa so don't leave them out entirly on Tatoine.:D

Tie Guy
08-06-2001, 02:59 PM
Don't forget that they will never play on Tatooine unless your playing MP.

Anyway, i agree with ya Leon, i only ever use fishing boats in AOk, but air units are a different matter, i will use them alot, or at least, alot more than the sea units.

08-06-2001, 03:01 PM
i reckon yeah, with a handle like that... :D
Air-units have only really satisfyingly been handled by Total Annihilation so far.. If GB can be half as good in handling them, I'm happy.

Tie Guy
08-06-2001, 06:19 PM
Hmm, i never played TA, but i don't like how the air units were done in RA2. They couldn't attack other air units, they were strictly for ground bombing. I did kinda like the Rocketeers though. I don't think we have to worry about that though, the air units sound alot different than the ones in RA2. However, i thought that the sea units were handled very nicely in RA2, hopefully the ones in GB will be equally as good.

08-06-2001, 06:23 PM
In RA2 they didn't even have migs, but in Yuri's revenge they have Migs again, but I hate to say this. This thread is about Naval Units. you can make your own thread to talk about Air Units. (Oh no, I am starting to sound like Leon. AAAAHHHHH!!!!)

Amazing! Thats incredible TIE! Do it again! ;)

09-18-2001, 11:41 PM
Seriously though, Now that we have some new memebers. What do you think about the navys? How effective will they really be?

09-18-2001, 11:57 PM
hmmm, i think i posted this somewhere else too, but here goes:
Depending on the type of map, navies can have the same or more of an impact of the game. Sea has one of the long range siege units, the sige ship. As far as I know, there are no air siege units, so this adds a new dimesnion. I say keep the navies, and use me BOTH to your advantage. You forsake one, and someone will use that to their advantage...:D

09-19-2001, 09:12 AM
Gungans will probably destroy any navy

Admiral Odin

A navy can give you an advantage if somebody doesn't prepare for it. and Naval landings can be fun.
