Are there going to be large battle cruiser for the civ's like the imperial destroyers. I would like to see those types of planes.Maybe the could give only some civ's those types of planes. They dont have to be that big similar to the protoss ship with the little planes cant remember the name.

We've already had this disscussion, and i think everyone now agrees that it would be cool, but not possible. The ships are simply too big, and thye would look very small if they did put them in their. So, they only way to include them would be to have a "orbital bombartment" supeweapon. Even then, they naboo and gungans wouldn't hve a way of doing that, so they have to think up of a nother superweapon for them.

hi jigga, welcome to the boards..

this thread should answer some of the questions you have:
http://forums.galacticbattles.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67

Tie, the superweapon idea sounds plausible. Especially those 'assaults from outer space'... It would work a bit like the Ion-cannon from Command & Conquer i presume..
Gungans and Naboo could perhaps have the same effect, but then with some kind of visible missile launched from a building.

Yes we should go to Lucasarts and tell them they MUST include Superweapons and the most powerful MUST be that GIANT BLUE ORB!!!:D (laughs out loud) Strange...:D

It would be hilarious if you would play against Gungans and out of the blue you'd hear Jar Jar say: 'O-o..big boomer!'... only to see a ball the size of an island come down on your base...
:D :D

Actually, Capital ships (Star Destroyers and Mon Calamari Cruisers) Do not "orbital Bomb" planets. That is why the TIE bombers and Y-wings are employed in both the Imperial and rebel fleets. Both craft can fly in planet atmospheres, and they perform all planetary bombing for their orbiting command ships.

So technically speaking, if you adhere to the already established star wars universe, they can't even function as "Super weapons" in the game.

But with Space Tilesets, anything can happen! ;)

i guess the books were wrong then. at a point in...one of the books the Gunman said I can hit any point on this planet sir. Also your excluding Rebellion.

Where have you heard this? I could have sworn I have read that a SD did an obital bomb. !
I always thought Bombers and the like were used when they needed more accuracy.

Kvan

And wasn't the imps gonna obital bomb. Hoth in ESB but the rebs had the energy shield?

Very true But he will argue, with bombers.

Bombers were just their answer to the slow moving powerhouses named Y-wings.

I wanna hear where havoc got the info from.

Paragon_Leon

that still makes it possible as an attack in the game, with the rebels developing a counter shield for it.
it's all still wide open, folks..

I am 100% percent positive that Capitol ships can orbitally bombard planets with their turbolasers. I just read last night about the Yevetha bombarding Polneye.

Maybe the Naboo could have a huge turret thing, like you said Leon. Their Fortress would open up and a giant turbolaser would poop out the topp and not only do heavy damage to the targer, but also everything inbetween along the laser path.

Ok, In the essential guide to starships it says they can obital bomb, so sorry havoc :D

Turbolasers and bombs are two different things ;)

Yes, Star Destroyers can target planet surfaces with turbolaser fire, however it is not very accurate against small targets, perhaps that is why they call in "bombing" since it is really just firing a spread of laser fire, raining it down from orbit above.

But strictly speaking, TIE bombers actually carry the BOMBS and drop them on planetary surfaces, they are more accurate.

I believe they perform the turbolasering of the surface before deploying units (ie AT-ATs and AT-STs) with drop ships, because they would inadvertently hit their own units with the blanketing effect of their turbolaser "bombing"

correct me if I am wrong

sorry TIE Guy, I didn't realize you meant turbolaser fire, I thought actually "bombing"

Actually Obital Bombardment can be any thing from "bombs" to laser fire.
What you said before was Capital ships couldn't. Which isn't correct, they can but just not as precise as Bombers, or thats my take on it

Actually, you ever heard of the fifth fleet? They used mine things to dig into the crust of the planet and then explode underground. So, they actually can "bomb" a planet. Although when you say "orbital bombardment" it is generally understood that it means with turbolasers.

darthfergie

Ever since Rebellion at least. Before Rebellion it could easily be taken both ways.

Fine then -----

He's saying that "orbital bombardment" could be taken either way before Rebellion, but i disagree. It is in the movies, when they are attacking hoth the officer says there is a shield protecting the planet that can withstand any bombardment. Also, it is in the books, and i knew what it was well before rebellion.

It CAN be taken either way! Orbital Bombardment! Meaning a bombardment from orbit. A bombardment can be anything, missiles, laser, projectile....etc.

CAN yes, but is NO. Like that dissagreement we had earlier(and are still having) Most of us Assumed TURBOLASER immidiatly.

Ummm, well no, I didn't.
But trying really hard to get back on topic, maybe the Naboo instead of having an Orbital Bomb. weapon could have like a Tractor Beam weapon, that maybe steals stuff...it's just a thought...

Thats a great idea but my energy ball is better ;) Just kidding of course.
The problem I see with your is what if there is no water?

Well, you have a point-besides yours is better

Tie Guy

Maybe the naboo could have a swarm of fighters and bomber that drop a ton of bombs on the target area but you don't have to make them and they can't die.

darthfergie
08-07-2001, 10:27 AM
They would have to be HUGE bombs or they wouldn't be worth my trouble making the flight hanger to launch them.

Tie Guy
08-07-2001, 11:06 AM
It's a superweapon, you wouldn't have to have a hanger to house them. Actually, that's a good idea. The prequisite could be a hanger, and a com tower for the others and a capapult for the gungans. Good idea :D

It would be just as powerful as the other superweapons, and it would be worth it.

darthfergie
08-07-2001, 11:07 AM
In RA2 all superweapons aren't as powerful as others so why would these be.:D

Tie Guy
08-07-2001, 11:26 AM
This game is more perfectly balanced than RA2, and RA2's supreweapons were just as powerful as each other, well the nuke and the storm were at least.

darthfergie
08-07-2001, 11:31 AM
Not really the Nuke couldn't take out buildings as well as weather control. The nuke did take out Infanttry better:D

blo0o
08-07-2001, 01:56 PM
the problem with making superweapons "perfectly balanced" is that in a game with naboo and the gungans as one of the main races... and then the rebels and imps it can't be more UN-perfectly balanced.

naboo is like a peaceful place... the queens ship wasnt even armed. the gungans are a buncha walking talking frogs...
and then the rebels and imps are big superpowers noones gonna be able to stop them...

so they should jus make superweapons unbalanced. who cares... cuz noones gonna play with naboo anyways.

:yoda: vs. :vadar:

who would win?

Darth_Rommel
08-07-2001, 02:01 PM
The gungans can have superpowers! Heres' my idea: a giant tital wave that destroys all boat+ buildings (by the shore) in the are it was started ;)

darthfergie
08-07-2001, 02:48 PM
Or a Kaadu stampede:D

Paragon_Leon
08-07-2001, 03:13 PM
The Naboo had weaponry; they just didn't deploy it that much or used it on a DIPLOMATIC vessel (that's why it was unarmed).

I've seem some artwork of a Naboo ship that looks like a B2 Stealth bomber... now image that coming out of nowhere and strafing your base... surely that should be a superweapon ?!?

xwing guy
08-07-2001, 03:35 PM
i think that there won't be any superweapons at all AOK didn't have them. But still its fun to imagine.

Paragon_Leon
08-07-2001, 03:41 PM
True, but AOK did have Wonders and special techs like spies/treason..
Lucasarts already tweaked the engine in various ways (shields, air-units) so i'm hoping superweapons become part of the fun. Maybe those weapons would be the Wonders from aOK?

Darth_Rommel
08-07-2001, 03:45 PM
Brilliant Leon! Brilliant! You would have to have a wonder before you could enable super powers, and since wonders are rare and expensive, super powers wouldn't always be used (no wonder you are a mod!)

darthfergie
08-07-2001, 04:50 PM
Rommel your agreeing again. You really need to watch that.
Leon That would be cool on the wonders:D

xwing guy
08-07-2001, 05:08 PM
we need a picture of a wonder from GB b/c we don't have an idea what one might look like:confused:
