View Full Version : saber smooth

In jedi knight the lightsaber was a bit jerky, but in the video shots of outcast that ive seen its so smooth, like it should look like. The level designs do have the star wars look which i think if a sw game doesnt have it it propably wont be huge. The large rooms in imperial bases that look like the huge, walled caverns in the death star and so on make the game look very expanded and theirs not an enclosing feeling.

Lot of new faces here, welcome friend to this side of the galaxy. I must agree also everything looks like it should be in place.

Welcome to the forums. :D
Yes, JK2 is really shaping up. I like what I've seen of the saber fighting so far...and they've now got the saber glow looking great. As long as we have a variety of moves (Heretic II...hint...hint...), then we should be in good shape. ;)

Thank God for that...!

Welcome to da forums
Anyway, yes the sabers are really starting to look good, the smoothness of the blade, the cool blur the flows behind when he swings
Stunning, absolutly stunning

Im getting to really like this forum the last one i went on which was actually my first every single person ganged up on me because i thought that they where being a bit foolish since i never heard a single thing they said that was good about star wars every day it was just complaining 24-7, but with this place its great people are positive. But back to the point, thank you for your welcome Nykel. Has anyone heard about the star wars rpg thats coming out next year? uno the ancient jedi one that will hopefully include Exar Kun, im really excited about it because most rpg's i dont like because i started playing in one which then got me hooked and distarcted me from all of the things i liked, but to have something as addictive as rpg and for it to be sw is just perfection in iteself, so thats for your list of stuff to get next year as well as epii stuff and JEDI OUTCAST!!!

I also like the way the game makers have put more effort into their imperial levels and so on and so forth, as i said before because it makes the game look much more like star wars, dont get me wrong the other levels are just as good but the huge imperial cavern sized pit rooms that look like they make the game feel you can go anywhere.

Welcome fellow Brit. : )
You will not feel intimidated here, anyone who is out of line is soon removed. You're not the first person to comment on the atmosphere here and most people agree with you.
(nice to see that not only aussies are starting to invade) j/k

Hmmm...jedi of the force...you're referring to Knights Of The Old Republic. And it doesn't really belong in this thread, or forum. I'd recommend starting a thread in Yoda's Swamp if you want to discuss it. ;)

Hi new people. I agree, the lightsaber looks very smooth to use, and not only the lightsaber, but the game as a whole. Its probably due to the QUake 3 engine and the amazing advancements they've made of it.
Lets hope when we play the game we can still say the same :)....and im sure we will :D
Welcome Newcomer.. i think ur talking about KotOR which is coming out next year and looks quite impressive and the whle game looks damn smooth!

The one thing i did notice with JK2 screenshots was the environment's textures. They look alittle.... well... just wrong. There's something that just seems alittle wrong about them, like they are alittle to bold against the objects in the room. Jk has most of its textures soft and it fit well. But with the sabers, the saber handle just looks so much better this time around, rather then a triangle prism, lol.

The textures look okay to me. Besides, there is a lot of polishing and tweaking to be done before we see the final game, so I'm sure they'll fix anything that doesn't look quite right. ;)
I like the saber handle too.

Again thank for your hospitality. Sorry about starting a thing on that sw ancient jedi game but iam quite looking forward to seeing anything to do with it. Has anyone noticed that theirs a target on the lightsaber now, i saw it on one of the screen shots.
11-20-2001, 05:41 PM
Not to mention those screens are pretty bad quality when compared to what we will see in front of us when we play.
Actually I thought those new screens had some very interesting textures.
11-20-2001, 06:50 PM
Yeah their are some pretty amazing textures, but im wondering wehter the resolution, graphics and so on will be as good as they are on the screen shots.

most likely, i dont think the screenshots are doctored in anyway... they usually tell you if they are...

Don't worry, I'm sure somebody'll make a ribbed saber mod for added friction...
11-21-2001, 05:31 AM
What's KoTOR about? And,I hope that they put mods for multiplayer saber-only,just like Counter-Strike,so we can face off with one another.
They'll divide it into
Duel(1 on 1)
Team duel(1 team on 1 team)
Every man for himself(max 8 players,be the only one alive and you're the winner).

Hopefully, LEC will release a video demo of the updated and much improved saber action so we can see what it really looks like. I love the glowing effects from the new screen shots.
11-21-2001, 02:51 PM
I must also agree the saber glow looks awesome. A demo would be nice just to give us a taste of saber control.

KoTOr what does the name stand for? i love the old republic and ive been looking forward to this rpg game for a while because it does a part of the sw galaxy thats never been done before, but this name eludes me.

I have a feeling that Raven people have wrapped up most of the basic saber moves so far(they even confirmed in chat that they have "captured a ton of motion capture data and it will be incorporated it into the game"), but when they are doing fine-tuning and perhaps creating additional moves, they should check out this site (http://www.synicon.com.au/sw/ls/sabres.htm) which is devoted to lightsabers(or sabres, like the site itself calls it) and examines different strikes, stances and en-guarde positions found from the movies. It is very informative and helpful, especially if you are into Kendo; most of the text is actually written before TPM premiered, but they used its trailers and tv -spots as referencial material while analyzing Qui-Gon's, Obi-Wan's and Maul's individual ways to fight. :D

The saber still needs alpha-blending to be tweaked, it's kind of choppy in spots. Other than that and some textures that should be changed I think it's fine.
