View Full Version : Your dream game???
06-27-2001, 08:59 PM
We'll, although bits and pieces of this topic have been covered, I had a dream about a game and wanted to know everyone elses ideas.( I'm starting to have dreams about video games...ouch) I have read several post on how to improve JKO, how to improve mp games, yadda, yadda, yadda. What I want to know is, if you could create a game today, based on the Jedi Knight concept, what would the game be like, and how would MP games be done? Here is my basic concept, and I would be curious as to all your thoughts on the matter. Just a basic primis will do.
Here is the basic concept for my game:
The concept for Star Wars Galaxies, with the inerface and playabiliy of JK(JKO).( If only they have babies) Although my passion and game is focused around multiplaying, I think this is were JK, for me, held its value. Imagine a progessive system( like EQ, SWG, but less complex)that would allow you as a jedi to become more powerfull and skilled, based on past experiance, time, training, and enimies you defeat, all in a multiplayer format within an enormous online community. Designated servers, multiple planets, but one governed community or "zone". All characters have standard(pre-set)abilites(based on the species of there character, as someone posted before) and it will then be up to them to deterine how powerfull and "elite" a character they will become. Imagine playine JK right now with this ability. This way you would know who the master jedi were and who was just a newb with a clans initials in front there name. Also, this would cut down on players playing with mulitple names, so they can clean there records so to speak. Although the world would be enourmous(EQ) you could have several rooms that could be closed off for private saber or gun games, playing with force or without, or maybe you need some privace to train an aprentice to further your power as a master jedi, etc. Imagine a little bit of monopoly were powerfull clans( empire) could control aspects of the community and own there own bases, etc. The ideas are endless, but based on today's technology, and new concepts behind games, this would be the basic idea for my perfect game!( however, time changes everything)

well I didn't read your post coz it's to long and I just got up. but I once had a dream ware everything was in JK textures, but the dead had nothing to do with JK

a starwars ver. everquest is a good idea, but i sure as hell want Jedi outcast to be a FPSer with skill based on the person, not spending countless hours at the game..
err well i suppose spending countless hours at the game WOULD make a skillful jedi indeed hehe but u get the point.
as for me, I'd like a Space Marine game with boarding operations, planetary invasions, etc.

How was it to live in a 16 bit world??
06-27-2001, 10:35 PM
Not even so much of a sw version of eq,( as this is being acomplished with swg) but a game that plays or interfaces much like JKO will, with the capabilites of interacting and developing your skills like in EQ. Lets face it, although SWG is going to be great, wouldn't it be awesome if the battle capabilites and fight playability was like JKO? Countless hours to develop a character are not a problem, as there are people that have been playing JK for years. Wouldn't it be nice to have a skill based-ranking system that would show your years of hard work and skill??? Just a thought, but immagine the recoginition factor and how much easier it would be to know "who is who". Newbs could log on and search out Master Jedi and seek training, etc....Just a thought....Maybe a full game version like JKO, and then a expansion called JKO-Community addition, like SWG or EQ?? This would give players multiple options for MP games, with one resource providing all options. Imagine playing JK with the ability to travel to differnt planets, seek out dark-jedi, challenge them to a FF, or NF, Saber Duel and then soak up you vicotory by hanging out with buddies from your clan, talking and betting on pod-races.( Sounds like SWG, but again, a little less in-depth, with the graphics and gameplay of JKO...WOW)

I have two ideal games. one is Thief 3 with good graphics and the same immersivness and gameplay of the previous 2 (here's hoping Ion Storm doesn't drop the ball). my other ideal game is JO with an excelent storyline and a good yet not overly complex lightsaber interface. (lets hope Raven doesn't drop the ball) What can I say, I love the single player.
I don't play multiplayer ever, mostly because lag just drives me nuts and ruins it for me, but I do have an idea for a multiplayer deathmatch type game. It'd be a UT/Q3 type game, only the catch is instead of selecting a model or skin, there'd be a HUGE number of parts to choose from (wheels, lazers, chasis, legs, armor types, electronic components/systems, radars, eyes, hydrolics...) and you'd build and design your own robot. for balance in each weight class you'd only get so much money to buy parts. (all done in your spare time, not during a game seing as it'd take too long) Lighter parts and fancier systems would cost more of course. Something like a lego technic set almost, lol. I imagine a whole LOT of parts/systems and a relatively limited amount of money plus weight restrictions, so just putting all of the "good stuff" in one design could never happen. You could build some robots with no armor, but with a lot of energy system so it'd have strong sheilds and energy based weapons, others could have strong armor and ammo based weapons, some could be geared for spead, some could be built to be smaller and harder to hit, some could just be well balanced. different designs could work well with different maps, and Playing styles would be limited merely by a person's imagination.

My dream game is where I go outside, look at the bright green sky, and sing pretty ballads as the eleven hexogonal presidents promendading down my street. Meanwhile, my sister, the camel, inspects the tiny, little, building inside her pocket, searching for any signs of pizza sauce. All the while, we must be on careful lookout for the giant Snicker's Bar<font size="-3">TM</font>, that snatches up left socks, and turns them into upside-down cakes.
That's my dream game, but I don't know if it sounds very fun ;)

Excellent imagination and concept Wanderer!
Also, in response to deathBolt, wanting the player to determine the ability, this is exactly what I mean, with the emphasis on desiging a system to help define players and there skill level. Meaning, time spent playing will obviously help build skill, your nautural ability will be the deciding factor to your overall status. If a player has only played for a few months and has a higher "learning curve", they will excel and achive a much higher status in a much shorter time! Who knows, you may become a Master in 2 months, we some players may find it takes them 2 years!
I dont remember dreaming in 16 bit, but this is my dream game
A 1st/3rd person game, where you can live a life in the SW universe, you can play FPS missions, space combat simulation missions, or just wander around, you could join the empire, the rebels or freelance, you could get to be an officer and command armies in a RTS like interface
Its like the SW universe made a game, where every character is controled by a real person
I had thaught when they first said that SWG was "the first from a series of products" that it was going to be something like what I wanted, and now the partially confirmed it with the space flying addon.Partially, because It wont be half the complex I want it to be. The addon for galaxies wont be as playing an X-wing game, It wont even be made by Totally Games
Ill keep my hopes up for Galaxies 2 or 3, by that time with VR saber control

Good topic, people. Keep it going. I'm just going to move this to the forum, currently known as Theed Hangar.

A dream version of a Jedi Knight game? Well, for me it would have to have...
1. Multiple endings which are determined by key choices you make throughout the game.
2. Several paths to achieve an objective or goal, ie, get away from linear style gameplay where you are guided down a single path.
3. Realistic NPCs, who have detailed backgrounds, their own motives (which may change based on your actions), with intelligent dialogue. They could act rashly, or err on the side of caution - ie, basically act in a human way that could affect your success in a particular mission. After all, most stories are only worth telling because of the characters, so they should be interesting, and take a real part in the story. And when they die in their virtual world, it should make you sad, like you can be when watching a movie. Or when you've come through a crisis, they could explode with exuberance and joy, and laugh... And maybe an NPC of the opposite sex could give you furtive glances, or say something that makes you believe they care about the character you're playing. And where are all the other alien species, who could be friends as well as foes? It would really help in terms of immersion.
4. A fully detailed environment, with furniture, and signs that it is lived in. It should also make some kind of sense, because too many environments are just networks of corridors and rooms. Where are the kitchens, bathrooms, main living areas, etc.? Where is the refuse and detritus of civilisation? Even in an SF universe people surely go to sleep in bedrooms? Eat in dining rooms? Park their vehicles in garages? Where are the Stormtrooper's barracks? These elements are largely missing from games.
5. An interactive environment. So you can drive vehicles - and drive them through walls, if you want. Or fire up your lightsaber and cut a hole in a door that won't open. Or play a game of Sabacc with a bunch of NPCs in a cantina. At random. And no unbreakable windows, doors or other things (pet hate).
6. The ability to own a droid, and send it off to undertake different tasks.
7. The ability to play the game in different ways, such as 1st/3rd person, Action or Stealth, with Saber/Force or a whole arsenal of other weapons, as Dark or Light side with a few totally different missions for each. These factors would all extend the playability of the single player game.
8. Intelligent Bots so that I can play all of the MP levels without having to go online. And Bots that learn, and increase their skill levels gradually, just as a human player might.
9. Realistic lighting, textures and physics, including properly cast shadows. Too many games use horrible blob shadows, when they should be more realistic. And there should be multiple shadows for multiple light sources. Textures should all be high-res.
10. Lots of action on screen at the same time. Droids moving around, ships taking off, a whole crowd of people interacting with each other, machinery at work, basically all of the things that make our environments dynamic and believable - so when things go quiet, you notice it, and it becomes eerie.
If a Jedi Knight game could have all of that, I think I'd be satisfied. ;)
Maybe we'll have to wait for JK3?
06-29-2001, 09:38 PM
Excellent Ideas Storm, not too much I would'nt want to see myself.....one day, one day we have the ulimate in immersion and realism.....I hope I'm alive to enjoy it! Th funny things is, all the suggestions by people on this forum, yours, mine, can be accomiplished successfully with today's technology....makes you thirsty for more!
06-29-2001, 10:51 PM
You know, Jedi Knight was 2 CDs. If JK2 is as well, you could very well see many of these things.
06-30-2001, 01:09 AM
mouth watering ideas storm, mouth watering. I doubt we'll see them all, but hopefully we'll see some. my favorites would be 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8. lol.
They are 2 cds just because of the cutscenes
06-30-2001, 01:46 AM
I wouldn't blame them if they still used 2 CDs. I wish that they would put the game on a DVD however. Imagine the textures(and load times) then!
07-04-2001, 02:42 AM
If it was on DVD, then people with CD-ROMS (Which is a lot) wouldn't buy it.
I want to see a SW game in which you can use 2 Blasters.
In New legends (by Justin Chin) it was going to be possible to play with 2 weapons at a time, but Its an XBOX exclusive now :(
07-05-2001, 02:27 AM
Well, I'm gonna buy a x-box now. ;)
07-09-2001, 05:12 AM
I was really looking forward to New Legends and Obi-Wan, but since they are both are Xbox only now, and considering I can look forward to JK2, it's not that big a deal to me any more.
I'll probably just end up renting them just for kicks.
Millions o' Monkeys
07-09-2001, 07:13 AM
my dream game hmmmm it would have to be counter-strike cross Jk...with the chance to use akimbo weapons of course ;)
07-09-2001, 12:25 PM
I wish they had a FPS where you are a darktrooper. One of the elites. Or just a stormtrooper. I don't mind. I wish that for once, if you are evil, you STAY evil. I hated being forced to choose which side of the conflict was. However, you should be able to CHOOSE to go to the Rebels.
I wish they'd make a COunter-Strike type map, but with a single player aspect and using the Q3 engine.
Think of it. You are a stromtrooper in the single player mode. You start off by playing certain missions for the Empire and see the atrocities it commits. Later on, a capture Rebel tries to convince you to join the cause, then this JK type of decsion comes up. If you join, you escape with him. If you are loyal to the Emperor and Lord Vader... you shoot him.
The multiplayer aspect should be a mix of Counter-Strike and Ureal Tournament. Death Match, Capture the Flag, Assault (UT) would be great to see in StarWars. And the team deathmatch, plant a bomb, escort VIP would be also great (C-S).
I wished SOME vechiles would be implemented. Like the swoop bike, the tanks seen in ForceCommander, AT-ST... but I am hesitant about AT-AT. This vehicle is huge and would cause great LAG in multiplayer game. And just imagin what hackers would be able to do with the AT-AT.
07-09-2001, 01:04 PM
My dream gmae would be like Jk where you fight vampires and cool mosters and stuff no just the same stupid stormtroopers over and over and with some stealth, also boss fights in a beat-em-up style with the light sabers, also if you kill somebody with cool cloaths you could knick em, like have heads all over your belt n stuff
another could be like a star wars Diablo with force powers instead of spells,
By the way you can get doulble Guns on 007 Golden eye on the N64 ( theres a cheat to have different ones at the same time ) and that Robot game somebody was talking about is Called Custom Robo ( its Jap and also for the 64 ) its kinda like pokemon with robot parts,
07-13-2001, 03:27 AM
well, for anyone who has read the book kilobyte, by peirs anthony, that would be my dream game. even tho its not SW related, we could make a mod!!!

07-20-2001, 02:48 AM
I wanna see a cross between Rainbow Six/Delta Force and Star Wars. Be a part of Page's Commandos or the Imperial Storm Commandos!
07-21-2001, 03:45 AM
Man, it's not as if these games are gonna be made, is it? Never let yourself stray too far into your imagination.(if that's how you spell it)
07-21-2001, 01:46 PM
what?!? imagination is the key, just think of all the great stuff we wouldnt have today, w/o imagination. stuff like.... well, im sure theres lotsa great stuff we wouldnt have anyway.
07-21-2001, 04:46 PM
Yes, I dont think you can stray to far AWAY from you imagination....and if you think about it, just about all the games mentioned are possible to accomplish with today's technology...imagine what are ideas will be in 10 years.... :D
07-21-2001, 04:54 PM
Oh fine then! i love imagination. It's the key! *rips her close off* Imagine THIS!!!
07-21-2001, 07:32 PM
Callista, i have one thing to say to you... "I dont know, I can imagine quite a bit". heh heh heh... sorry.
OK, my dream game would not be possible by todays technology. Mainly because of the level of graphics, the interface i want, and the type of control that im thinking of. The level of graphics that I see in my dream game is almost true-to-life graphics, i mean, just barely off so you would know the difference from in-game and reality. The controls would be something like motion capture. Say, to like fire a weapon, you would need a gun controller and actually use your aiming skills to shoot another player(so its not the rinky-dinky mouse stuff we have to put up with, although i dont mind so much). And say, for a lightsaber, you would need a special controller (which would be supplied w/ the game), this controller would function like, say you were to move it to the left, it moves to the left, get the idea? So there would be limitless # of possible saber moves. The interface would be something like a holodeck from ST, or either a beefed up VR, and not the blasted moniter.
Ok, now onto the actual game. I guess it would be most like SWG, since ive been dreaming of a game like this ever since i can remember. There is a few things i think i would change. For instance, there would be single player, and multiplayer. SP would most likely reflect a JO, or JK, or DF, or any type of FPS. Also, in SP, there would be many, many different training missions for all types of characters. Like there would be Jedi training missions if your a Jedi, training for a soldier or mercenary, even training for a tech wizard or craftsman, or something. You can use these training missions to beef up your character before you try and test your might in multiplayer. While multiplayer would be just like Galaxies. Except for a few rule changes, like not being able to kill another person unless scenario A happens or scenario B, etc., etc. The rules will most likely fit into real-world rules, and not many of the rules existing in SWG now.
The timeline. Well, after reading some of the posts on the Galaxies website relating to the timeline and how players should be able to affect it, it got me thinking. So, after a few mintutes, i thought the perfect timeline would start after ROTJ, around JO time and beyond, this way, players can make the universe by their actions, and not pre-determined events, like in the films. Either that or something around Knights of the Old Republic time, that would make a hell of a game(and im hoping it will be in KOTOR), the Jedi and Sith War (or whatever its called).
I think i covered everything. Now that I think about it, this is not just a dream game, its a dream system as well as a dream game. I hope we will have the technology to build something like this when im still alive and well. Well, thanks for reading my post, this has been my longest post ever.
07-22-2001, 02:05 PM
virtual reality is where its headed!!! can you imagine a fully immersible SW enviroment. you get wet when you jump in water, you can fully interact with the surrounding enviroment.
07-23-2001, 05:04 PM
Yes, I agree, that Virtual reality is were it is headed, I'll be the oldest man on the block playing games, if this is around in my life time...I mean, imagine you could use the same technology that they use when creating sports games and other games, that transfer actual players characteristcs, movements, etc. It would be cool to have a Jedi game, that before playing in set up, you cold do a series of moves jumps, sabers slashes, etc, and then your game character would look and play just like you!! Your entire system would be a virtual expeirance, were you could have sensors attached to your body, to detect hits, ect.....pull the couch back, cause we are geting ready for Jedi Knight-2050.....lol
07-23-2001, 11:23 PM
Acdcfanbill, the possibility of a game like this, makes me wish that i would have been born decades from now, taking full advantage of youth in a game like this.
That is an awesome idea chewie, sense the moves before you play. But I was thinking more along the lines of a real-time you do it-it happens kind of thing. Either way would be sweet though.
As for your other idea, chewie, about the character looking exactly like you... awesome, great idea, what else can i say?
Oh, another thing i thought would be cool, a feature in the game that i havent seen since Tie-Fighter i think it was, would be being able to record yourself playing, in order to watch later. That way, you can analyze your mistakes (if your like me, you need to) and get better, or show your friends just how good you are.
Also, i think that all of us old foagies would play a game like that until we die, i know i would, hell, it is my dream game.
07-23-2001, 11:43 PM
Thanks Jimi, and actualy we were more on the same page then my post listed...sorry, as I was a little vague in my thoughts...i totally want the game to be a virtual, as it happens experiance. I just meant that, you could have a 3rd person option, and see yourself playing, with your movements, etc, as it was happening and you were reacting virtualy....you and I have very similar taste...lol...I'm laughing cause your totaly read my mind, as I was just about to post a topic on JKO MP having an instant replay option, so you could watch duels, record them and save them. Even send them to a freind to prove that you beat who you say you beat, etc. I think this would really rock.....see my topic in The Valley on this, so we can see what everyone else thinks...thanks again man...you rock!!! :D
