Aw, heck, I like Pink Floyd. Mostly I'm into Thomas Dolby, The Offspring, The Who, Elton John (ONLY before 1975), Deep Forest and other oddness. Sometimes I like classical, then sometimes I like punk rock. Depends.

I just don't like country that twangs, that's all.

LIGHT DEFEATS THE DARKNESS

-----------------------------------------

put a lamp in a dark room. Is the lamp swallowed up in the darkness, or does the darkness disperse

Imladil
12-23-1999, 04:37 PM
Aha! I knew that if I kept reading his posts, Skw would come up with something interesting! I'll take this one from the scientific point of view:

The lamp is not swallowed by darkness. Darkness is illusory in nature, being nothing more than a lack of energized photons within a given area. Like any vaccum, when something else is introduced, its "voidness" is immediately dispelled by the presence of that something. This is why a bright room cannot be darkened by adding darkness but must be reduced by adjusting the source of light. Wherever there is darkness, it simply means that there is no light, not that another medium is filling the area.

Taking this idea straight down the old surreal highway, let me pose the question, "As opposed to mere darkness, what does absolutely nothing look like?"

Imladil
12-26-1999, 02:47 AM
I'm sorry, Skw, but I must disagree with you on that one. Energy, to use a term which encompasses both the scientific and theological concepts, is the base medium for all reality. Light, which is an energized particle being carried on an energy wave (photon), is frequently associated with energy...but, like matter, is the effect and not the cause.

It is impossible to detect energy directly. You can see how it affects things and measure its strength that way...but it is, nevertheless, impossible to isolate the energy itself for study.

And yes, I am a pup, Batman. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/wink.gif My meager thirty-two years keep me in the young category. In addition, I physically look quite younger than that, and I still play with toys. So tell me...what is age, anyway? http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/smile.gif
