View Full Version : Let me introduce myself

Hello, I'm from bonny Scotland - where all the best space flight engineers come from!

I 'arrived' a couple of weeks ago as a new member of Rogue Squadron, hoping to pick up some good gen about the most difficult missions; Corellia, Gerrard V, Imperial Yards, Kessel (2), Taloraan, Fest, Sullust, Thyferra, Beggar's Canyon, the Trench and Hoth - make your own list. [It took me a while to get gold at each of those, though now only Sullust and Thyferra still prove troublesome.]

In the event, I only picked up a couple of really useful tips (for which many thanks). [I should, perhaps, explain that the game, Rogue Squadron, came bundled with my new PC; just the CD and no manual. So I had to learn nearly everything by experiment.]

Several of the things I've learned seemed to be unknown (undiscussed?) here (and elsewhere), so I started to 'publish' my own strategies and tactics in the Strategy forum - to a resounding round of . . . silence - and a couple of frivilous suggestions. [Thanks, 'lil lady; your story about the B-wing seems to have confused Rookie.]

Undaunted, I've now published my strategy for Thyferra, together with my solution to the problem of the kamikazes there. I also have solutions, with (so far as I know) unique insights to some other missions; Gerrard V, Kessel (2) and Taloraan, in particular. Would anyone like to hear/discuss them?

I'm especially interested to know if all/any of my 'original' discoveries (how to bypass the scanners and use the rampart at the Yards, how to take out missile launchers in an X-wing, how to deal with the kamikazes at Thyferra and Taloraan, how to use seeker missiles without having to wait for them to 'lock', and so on) are already well-known. [I've seen a passing reference to a Strategy Guide for Rogue Squadron. Does it have all these ideas in it? Or are they in the game manual?]

But most of all, of course, I'd like to know what clever tricks I've missed; has anyone ever lassoed the pair of Tuskers at Hoth in one go, for instance? It seems to be an obvious shortcut, but all my attempts fail miserably.

But, enough about me. How have you been?

Imladil=full grown male. Not li'l lady. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/biggrin.gif But yes, that particular prank is one of my hallmarks...

Welcome, qrook. I always learn when I read your posts. We don't always talk the game in the lounge here, so it's refreshing to actually think about strategy and tactics.

May as well break ya in right. So what's your favorite starfighter? http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/wink.gif

I got a gold medal in all the levels without cheating it was very hard. First i used cheat codes though which i regret using. Playing with the ACE difficulty code is pretty fun.

Let be the first of the Manegment here to welcome you. If you see the rank Corvi, or Supream Allied Commander, you're talking to either a Moderator, or a Administrator, and there are NO OPENINGS (even though we enjoy the enthusiasm).

I case your wondering, it's 30 posts till you reach the next rank, and unless you become a moderator or admn, which I don't see happening to anyone (sorry), the ranks of Corvi and S.A.C are off limits.

anyother questions?

(this has been a brief F.A.Q of our forums, you may now return to your regularly schedualed programing.

Well I don't want to cover rules cause I always do that. You said you didn't have the manual Grook so I'll say a couple of things you might not know about the game. Actually I can't sorry, I have the N64 version and it's a little different. However to get at turrets without getting shot at all you should fly srtaight down at them from above. I really don't ever use this attack, but it can be fun at times. And I have a request for you, tell me how you bypass the scanners and use the ramparts, whatever those are. Anyway since I guess I really have nothing more to say I guess I will tell you the rules.

This will be a set of rules that would actually be useful and not some jokes, well mostly.
1. Don't use any profanity, you can do stuff like this a**, but don't spell it out.
2. Try not to take everything people say here seriously, because not many people here are serious ever, but sometimes they are.
3. Post often. Don't be afraid to jump in at any old disscusion, we value everyone's opinion and we don't bite.
4. Keep an open mind. We sometimes have disscusions about religion and God and you may not agree with what someone believes, but they're not trying to offend anyone, and evryone is entitled to there own opinion.
5. Things can get pretty funny around here, sometimes a little wierd. So be prepared to laugh.
6. Now for some not so serious ones. Everyone here obeys The Master (not really but we like to humor him)
7. This is the most important. Send 10 dollars to me Chillin every time you post. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/biggrin.gif j/k

So there ya go there are the rules everyone obeys, and some they should. But whatever you do here be sure you're having fun.

Pretty good set a rules for some imature kid huh Imladil http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/wink.gif

Hi, HiddenTalon. [I'm v.e.r.y tempted to click on Mr. Smiley. But I won't, if you say so.]

Lo, Rogue. [When I've figured out what your question is, I'll tell you the answer.]

Who *exactly* is The Master? Is he related to the villain who made Dr. Who's life a misery for a while over here, in the 70s? [Do/Did you have Dr. Who?]

Imladil, Hi! [This damn keyboard can't spell very well. Sorry.] My favourite starfighter is, of course, the X-wing. You can never really get over the first gal you fell for.

Rogue15, Lo. Like you, I got my golds, finally, the hard way. But I also couldn't resist trying out some of the cheats to see some of what was coming. ACE I haven't tried though. I will, but at Mos Eisley or Barkhesh first. Thyferra is still a hard one as it is.

Yessir, Lt Cracken, Sir. [But I'll send you a copy of my CV anyway.]

Chillin, nice to know you. But it's Grook with a Q, as in Queen's Rook.

I'll be trying out the nose-dive on some turrets soon, but I don't think it'll help at Calamari, where I need it most.

Read all about bypassing scanners and using the rampart in my post to the Strategy forum on 12th June; Imperial Construction Yards.

[And your $10 is in the post.]

I didn't have that in mind when I named myself. (I have always had this name.) And I have watch Dr. Who before. I have almost all the tapes. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/biggrin.gif

Yeah we have Dr. Who here qrook, sorry about the misspell.

"You never really get over the first gal you fell for."

Can I help it if I'm picturing Scotty from Star Trek? http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/smile.gif Actually, I bet Scotty would've made a top-notch X-wing pilot.

Captain Kirk, though, would've flown an A-wing... http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/wink.gif

Welcome Qrook, my aunts and uncles hang in the old geneology tree, they say we're from Scotland. However there's a town in the S.W. of Jolly old England that bears our name. And an unusual family name it is! Sometimes I get a might http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/confused.gif by it all.

VERY FUNNY SCOTTY, now please beam down my PANTS!!!

My earliest ancestor in America was a Scottish soldier who defected from the British army during the American revolution. I'm not sure, but I think this makes me a Scot in good standing. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/wink.gif

I know how to shut The Master up! Have Q gesture him into outer space, where he can squeak helplessly for a few seconds before the expression of astonishment is forever frozen on his face.

Uhhh...huh-huh. That would be cool. http://www.roguesquadron.net/forums/biggrin.gif
