We discussed about this here a long time ago(and also in several other places) and now, when JK2 is few months away from possible completion, I think it's right time to take this topic back to consideration. I remember that Raven people said very early on that they might change Kyle's textures(if I understood correctly that meant his clothes) later and now after all these months, latest pics still show him wearing same clothes he had in JK(about nine years earlier). Of course I have to admit that this time they look like real clothes(thanks to advanced visuals) and they suit him quite well as an old mercenary, but in MotS he had kind of commando/military type armor reminiscent of Jedi wardrobe Luke wore in RotJ; this might have meant to show us visually that he was much more closer to the Dark Side. I also understand the fact that at the beginning of JK2 Kyle still lacks Force powers, because he fears he might turn back to the Dark Side, but when game goes further, and he gets his powers back gradually, it should also show stylistically his growth as becoming much more promising Jedi Knight. Therefore Kyle could wear clothes which reflect his gray status(he walks a path between Light and Dark side) and in the same time draw inspiration from traditional Jedi wardrobe, because he takes his role much more seriously this time around. I guess that is what this whole Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series is all about: hard choices that you must make to become a real Jedi Knight, and Star Wars has always told the story also visually.

I'd like to see him in some more tradition Jedi apparel. You know the big heavy robes that hide their face and add crap loads of mystery and a sense of power under the hood

Heavy Jedi robe. It adds mistery and make it seem like he is more powerful. After all it is quite a bit of years later now and he is more powerful, and the standard Jedi robe shold be there too.

Sounds Risky

But he's a Jedi outcast, like the name of the game.

well, the it was called Jedi Knight, and he was w/o robes... anyway, i think he should stay with the tride and true vest and normal merc. apparal...

I could do with some new jedi apparel for Kyle. Just as long as it doesn't consist of span-dex and an old burlap sack I'll be happy

Don't ask

I'd like to see him in robes. Maybe in an additional mission after he finishes up destroying whatever dark jedi have emerged and has rejoined the Jedi.

Maybe some robes in just a very small portion of the game.

Kyle is more of a mercenary and does things on his own way so he problably wouldn't want to look like a Jedi thoughout his career.

Do we always have to wear clothes?

Anybody remember the Nude Sariss skin? I forgot who made it. Obivously not an Al MacDonald skin!!!

Im very sure that everyone here would like everyone in the game to wear clothes thanyouverymuch.

(Except maybe Jan, but thats it!;) )

Al though I was talking about more traditional Jedi gear, I didn't mean Kyle should also have robe, because I think that is too much something that only Old Republic's Jedi would wear; besides, as a mercenary Kyle doesn't exactly have a religious side that made Jedi Knights look like monks with these on. Part of the clothes that would immediately make you believe, he is a Jedi are: vest and sash. Here is a good reference picture.

This other pic shows that also Luke have same pieces of clothing over his jumpsuit, but with much darker tones.

Like you see, Kyle could still have dark pants that he always seems to wear, military boots(like Luke) and same shirt that he already have, but this time underneath the vest. Gunbelt(with lightsaber hilt) is over sash. :D

I like the sash/vest/cloak idea quite a bit too. I think as he progresses further in the way of the force, he should start dressing more accordingly. It's hard to convince people you're a jedi if you keep dressing like han solo. just my opinion.

But you're more likely to get into a rebel base if u dress up like han solo

Wouldn't a true Jedi not care about such trivial things? He could just pull out the lightsaber and cut something up, like a watermelon.

or just kill the person with ur lightsaber.

I'm not sure Jedi apparel would be really suitable for Kyle. I've always viewed him as a reluctant Jedi, a loner who simply did what he had to do...and used whatever was at his disposal to accomplish his mission. He runs the knife edge between the dark and light, which is one of the reasons why he is an Outcast. He's even more of a renegade than Qui-Gon, and look what he started through his (apparently) misguided beliefs.

No, I think the rough-and-ready look is more suitable...although I would like to see some variation this time around. That set of mercenary gear must be getting a bit threadbare by now. ;)

Maybe him and Lara will swap because it seems they are both too tired of their clothes. Apparently they're compfy.

The traditional description of a Jediknight is a trained Force-sensitive who adheres to the Council's wishes.

Luke Skywalker never gave Kyle any official training, neither did any other Knight//Master who can teach to a degree sufficient. He just picked it up along the storyline in DF2: JK. Technically, he isn't a Jediknight.

Where he would come by an instance where he would need Jedi robes, I wouldn't know. Unless he wanted to paint a large target on his forehead and parade around in an army of enemies, I wouldn't like to see him running around in heavy Jedi robes. The mercenary clothing we see him in JK is good enough for me. In fact, it suits the character well. Kyle isn't mysterious, considering his running record of dealing with obstacles - blow them down! Unless he changed drastically, I don't see a sufficient amount of justification to wear Jedi robes.

However, the sash and vest have always been a favourite for Jedi whom like to blast their way through things (Luke in RotJ and Qui-Gon in Ep-1, particularly when he is fighting Maul). I vote yes on the sash and vest.

Always the best,

-Slonn

The sash and vest would be okay, but I don't really like the idea of robes. I just can't see anyone in heavy jedi robes whipping out a concussion rifle and pummelling some stormies with it. Or even a bowcaster. MAYBE a bryar pistol or thermal detonator.

Now there's an idea. Maybe have an ambushed ambasador (sorry about the Ep. I overtones) series of missions where Kyle only has his saber, pistol, and detonators, and is wearing jedi robes. Of course he would have to win favor with the rest of the jedi first. Also, if that isn't in now it's a bit late, but what is this board for? Wishing!

(btw, anyone else remember the old weaps from DF?)

I still think kyle suits the clothes he wears. makes him look more like an outcast which is the game name:D

yes we have plenty of suggestion on what kinda clothes Kyle should wear but not one person has even mentioned underwear , what kinda underwear should our hero wear. I like hanes briefs.:D

acdcfanbill
01-07-2002, 01:17 AM
hey, no briefs, a jedi cant get bound up during combat, he needs the free reign of boxers to allow for full, er, movment during duels,... he probably wore briefs for JK and MotS, which explain the lack of lightsabre moves...:D

Exactly.Another reason for anti-robes is that robes pull him down, and he has to fight! He's a Jedi Knight! Thus,he'll have to fight anything that he has to,and as a result,he can't have anything heavy and bulky to hold him down!A sash and vest and the brown trousers would do just fine,or maybe the gold/red/blue/green model he wears in Multiplayer would do just fine.

After examining posted screenshots more carefully, I have to correct a little bit my first statement that Kyle uses same clothes he already had in JK(and with first impression that might seem to be the case): al though Kyle has same shirt, he wears LIGHT brown pants this time around as opposed to dark ones from JK and he has different kind of boots. I also found both gloves and elbow pad to be nice additions to familiar appearance, and I guess with Ghoul 2 developers could easily add new pieces of clothing, if needed to(I'm still hoping to see vest and sash, you know). :) All in all, I have to thank Raven for creating so natural looking cloth textures which resemble exactly the ones Jason Court (http://www.petitiononline.com/JK2sound/petition.html) used in cutscenes(I checked them through lately). :D

i think whatever clothes kyle gets, he needs to get some pants with a little more room up front, if you know what i mean. then again, maybe he doesn't need room up front.

I thought this might be cool pic(even though most of you have already seen it during one of those On Location videos), but I chose it, because it shows very clearly that also Anakin wears familiar Jedi gear. Dark colors and leather are definitely right choices for future Darth Vader and show the fact that these simple pieces of clothing can be altered in so many ways to show us visually what its owner represents and his personality.

Hi,

I've posted a message here (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=339818#post339818) that shows a "new screenshot" from the LucasArts front page. I looks like the person opposite from Kyle is sporting a robe... have a look:

Lord_FinnSon thought it might be appropriate for this thread

It's nice that you brought that pic to our attention, even though it has been there quite some time. It's so easy to forget all those small things when you are hunting bigger prey... ;) I don't even remember, if Raven have yet confirmed that JK2 features flowing clothes, but this seems to indicate so.

If I look at that picture again, it looks like there must be some strong wind blowing from the left... I don't think there is wind in the physics engine in Quake 3.

Even if there is, it would be really well programmed if it would make a robe or other objects move... I don't think we're not quite at that stage in gaming yet

Lord_FinnSon
01-12-2002, 11:34 AM
Cape might have been animated separately, so when this character moves to the left, his cape follows him lagging a little bit behind(in JK, Yun, for example, had extended vest that you you could partially animate), so wind doesn't need to affect it. Still, I remember that Raven spoke something about weather effects that could affect your movement.

I think it would be best to start with casual clothes and as he gets more to the light or dark side make them more formal acording to his sod (dark would be a cloak that gets daker along with the shadow it makes on his face. And light would be a vest that gets lighter thicker and more heavy duty.)

Lord_FinnSon

Welcome to the forums, chilli! :) It has become custom to give gift baskets or chocolate Jedi Medallions to newbies, so I guess you will get one soon. What comes to this topic, it would be cool to see Kyle making change from his mercenary clothes(that he has in screenshots) to some sort of Jedi gear during his journey as you indicated, but without clear hints toward Light or Dark side because he walks between them this time. Remember that at first he starts without his saber and Force powers, but because he visits Jedi Academy on Yavin 4, I'm sure he can get some sort of suit for this job(and I'm speaking only two pair of clothes here), so that they don't just appear from nowhere...

In the original jedi knight, and most every other game, people choose the skins that blend in the best with most of the levels. People who played Oasis (NF) alot used Dark Kyle, Commando, Blue, Officer, and other dark skins that blend in with dark lightning. For sneak attacks!!! :)

I have been mostly talking about SP and what kind of clothes Kyle should be using in that campaing. MP is be totally different, because developers can include clothes that he already uses in SP and make up additional clothing for MP only. Rune is a good example when it comes to designing clothes for player character: there are so many variations of them for almost every climate. In my oppinion it makes that character much more interesting and believable, when he seems to know how to protect himself againts winter or just to hide his identity from his enemies, so that he doesn't stand out from that crowd or world simply by wearing same clothes all day long; wouldn't it be cool, if they were realistically torn to pieces after so many fights, hiking, swimming or crouching in the tunnels? Of course vest and sash would be only one variation that could be worn over his usual mercenary clothes: a small detail which would give that quasi-religious Jedi edge to Kyle making him look much more committed to his role. :aobi:

I had to insert this image of Kyle's model here, because it's first one that clearly shows him from head to toe. Nice indeed! :D

You know, the skin might very well differ depending on the level... so while Kyle is wandering around the temples of Yavin he might have attire more appropriate to the Jedi order, and when elsewhere something different. JK itself had a number of different "Kyle" skins for multi --the potential was there, they just didn't use it.
