View Full Version : Public chatroom open to all JK/JK2 players!

02-11-2002, 12:12 PM
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast is almost upon us. In anticipation of the release a number of JK players thought about developing a place where players (clan and independent) could meet, setup games, chat, hangout, or just idle.

JaG, a long-time JK clan, decided to register #nar on irc.enterthegame, a IRC server.

What is IRC? IRC is a chat program that a number of games use to bring their communities together. Tribes 1, Q3, UT, CS, JK, and a host of other communities maintain channels and servers. Players chat, idle, hangout, talk smack, trade stories, and even conduct interviews in these channels.

One version of IRC can be found here: http://www.mirc.com
mIRC is one such program that allow players to connect to IRC servers. The help file is excellent.

Why enterthegame? A number of clans (IRN, Syk, HDK, JCS, DH, WC, DSbr, among others), organizations (TsN), and other groups currently have channels on the enterthegame server. With a number of community members on one server, we thought it would be our best choice for a channel where our community could come together.

Feel free to stop by, chat, idle, or whatever!

Aristotle or Vagabond: Is there any chance in making this a "Sticky" for a week? I'd greatly appreciate it if you could do this.

There are people from multiple clans in there, as well as other people who are not affiliated with any clans. As to activity in the room, it depends on what time you go, as well as what day of week it is. We've had an increase in activity, because of promotion, word of mouth, and the coming release.

Silent Wolf: Your lack of common sense has been duely noted.

Jag, as I understand it the reason your last thread was deleted was your incessant *bumping*

It is fine if you want to advertise your channel, but please don't spam these boards.

I have a thread showing 3-4 admin/moderators (Aristotle, Vagabond, others) that would disagree with you. See, "Am In the Right Forums?" Vagabond told me to go ahead and remake the thread. Perhaps you should discuss with your fellow admins what your stance on the issue is. As of right now, I have 4 admins/moderators telling me what I am doing is fine, but i have one telling me otherwise.

Also, notice that I am only bumping one thread, not making multiple ones about the same topic. Are you saying that multiple threads concerning "Killer Gonks" and "Do you think Luke is cute?" are more important than developing a community?

So far, the response has been good to the channel. I've noticed more and more people in there everyday. A number of them have said they heard about it on the forums. If you find my bumping of this thread as pointless, then you are basically telling me, as well as the number of players I represent, that the development of the community as well as the development of the competitive community is pointless and should not be pursued.

In the end, my goal is this: Provide a general channel to be used by clans, independents, organizations, to come together in a server used by a large number of prominent and established clans and organizations within the JK community.

If my one thread is taking up that much space, then I will delete it.

it'd be nice if they put this thread on sticky... :)

its announcement worthy afterall

I had to run when i wrote the above sorry if it was incoherent. Perhaps i should be more precise. Members of your affiliation were not responding to my questions which was quite irritating. In addition i was not asking n00b questions, simply things like how long have yall been around simple things. It seemed odd that 3 of your memebers simply put a smilely face and thats it. I didnt find it respectfull and your comment as far as my lack of common sense confirms my notation that your clan isnt very hospitiable. Thanks for running the point home.

First, allow me to apologize. A stressful day at work makes for for some short tempers.

I think we started off on the wrong foot. Can we start over? My clan is a bunch of good guys really (and a girl :D ) If you have the time, come by tonight. If not, then stop by this week. I'll be in there around 7 EST. I'll be in and out, so shoot me a PM. This has started off poorly, but hopefully we can turn this around.

where do you work Jag?

Thankfully i have my own office so i dont have to deal with customers unless of course there clients. In that case, im there virtual slave ...no pun intended :P

Please call me Kaiser, JaG is my clan.

I work for Trane, I am a marketing engineer at the business unit/production facility in Lexington, KY. Here we produce two lines that Trane has to offer, both being large modular rooftop and and indoor units. These things can be as small as your 17"monitor, or wide enough so that you can park to pickup trucks side by side.

It's good stuff, and I get to travel every now and then. My team and I cover any of our sales offices from Indianapolis to Honolulu, in a product support/engineering role.

What do you do?

Not to mention im restructuring the network here. Joygasm heh. What you do sounds very neat, never heard of it before but i think ill look it up :)

.... this thread becomming more of a 'personal' type ...

anyhoo... I'll see if I ever come around there - about how many people are in your chat room? (yes I mean on a 'good day' ;) kthxbye)

02-12-2002, 06:45 PM
A good day would be 20-30. Feel free to stop by. :D

wooooh.... not bad, now which is the majority? Clan Members or Non-Clan Members (lone wolves)

A couple of my friends recommended me not to DL mirc, I forgot their reason - something about not being able to take it off your pc.... any clues?

sounds like fun, *me is waiting for new PC till I come*

02-12-2002, 06:49 PM
I'd rather not be on a server with scum like DSbr... We don't need their filth in JK2. They think they are already #1 at it, but it's not out!

I would recommend #massassi, at irc.massassi.net. Or #jk2 on irc.massassi.net. #massassi is the Massassi.net chat, lots of JK and JK2 talk there. #jk2 is a channel dedicated to JK2. Not many people use it, but more will eventually.

I also recomment the jediknightii.net chat, which is on irc.gamesnet.net, channel #jediknight.

ah NooOoooOoo!!

I totally forgot about Massassi, I havn't been there since X-Mas!

:( Bummer, so people are going there more frequently? coolies...

*me is loading chat @ massassi now* :D

It's clan and non-clan. We went where the clans were, like IRN, DH, WC, and others. TsN is there, and I would imagine that any sort of competition channels will be there , too, given that a number of JK clans are there.

02-12-2002, 10:21 PM
i agree.. etg probably where all the competitive clans are going to hang out at.

02-13-2002, 09:41 AM
Agreed Deathbolt. Old and new alike, a number of the competitive clans are on etg. Unless something drastic happens, I'd imagine it will stay that way for the duration of JK2.

There was a decent turnout last night. Some guys from WC, Katherine, and I saw the Wolf in there. Interesting stuff.

I'll be in and out tonight, but if anyone needs anything, or simply want to get my attention, shoot me a PM.

02-13-2002, 08:43 PM
Sorry I wasn't in so much tonight. Sims Golf is one addicting game!
