Sluggish joystick performance

Has anyone else had joystick problems with Starfighter? I am used to Xwing Alliance where the joystick is very sensitive so maybe it's just a matter of getting used to the game, but I have problems steering left to right--up and down isnt too bad but altogether, it does seem a little sluggish--I have tried to recalibrate several times but it's still sluggish--any suggestions?

That's just the way the game is. I think it's not as sluggish in the space missions, only in the planet missions.
