Bittersweet....internet relationships are definately bittersweet...

like all of you care but:

basically my best friend (who lives in a neigboring town) introduced me to his friends (via AIM) ... one of which i got REAL friendly with. we had so much in common, we liked everything and we had the same opinions...i really started to like her, however she has a boyfriend...

Well, to make a long story short i told her how i felt (in a lot of words, im afraid i said way too much...but i still have more to say)

So, now i realize i just made the hugest and most emotional speech to this girl whom i havent even met....its scary.....and thats why internet relationships suck

they suck because you dont know who they are, really, and you dont know what they are really like and you are so scared when you do meet them....you lock up

thats why im ultimately pissed at the internet...it allows you to speak your mind...because you cant do that in person...and when you are ready for a real relationship in person (friends or more) you dont speak your mind...and you dont know how to...and you freeze....

that sucks...that so sucks...

basically what im trying to get at is: has anyone here had an internet relationship and when you guys met it was unbelievably awkward?

.......misery loves company......

I met my bf off the net- but it wasn't like we were both running around chat rooms trying to find someone to hook up with. We just got talking, became friendly, decided to meet and the rest is history- I know many people who have found a bf/gf off the net, it's more common than most people think.

I've met a lotta people off the net, the first guy I ever met, I only met coz he kept asking me out and I finally said yes, even though I wasn't interested really, and he ended up being the most boring, depressing usless person I've ever met, least he didn't try hitting on me- thank gawd for that. A guy I'm friends with in Sydney I met last year and while we're very good friends he wasn't at all what I expected when I met him, I felt like he ignored me- I dunno if that was coz his gf tagged along though. Also I wasn't particually impressed that he seemed to think that there was something going on between me and a 14yo (who I'll mention in my fave people I've met bit) especially when he knows I have a bf

Probably my fave people I've met has been a guy who is also from Sydney, he's a sweety, he's like 14 and waaaaaaaay taller than me which now results in a lotta teasing when we talk. I think since we've met, we've become closer, and also he says I'm the only person he can trust and actually treats him human. He's so smart, and you all know how other people can be horrid to people, he hates his dad, and he reckons his mum can be a cow sometimes. Also a couple I've met from Tassie- met them twice and love em to bits, they're adorable :D

Ummmmmm I've found that with the net, your attracted to their personality, not their looks, unless you've seen their pic.

Actually, if you think about it, it's not all that much worse than someone who you met in real life. The only major difference would be that you never actually met her.. so it's possible that she could have lied about a few things that might not pass in real life, such as gender and age (to some extent).

There are plenty of people who don't look their age, as well as weirdos out there who like to cross-dress and trick everyone else into thinking they're the gender they're not..

Keeping those more "obvious" stuff aside, how well do you know people you've met in real life? For all you know, they could be putting up a really good front, or be some kind of con artist. So online and offline has little to do with it.

...I have a point. Somewhere. Just don't really know how to make it. Never mind.

Actually I met someone on the net (just as friends) and I have met them once cos they had a business meeting in my town so we met for lunch. It was really cool actually cos it wasn't at all awkward, it just felt like they were normal friends, (it was a married couple my own age). We plan to meet up more often now. :)

I agree brief- sometimes people you know in real life aren't what they appear, I think I'm only beginning to realize that maybe my best friend isn't what she is/was. I know we're growing up, we're changing, and while I don't have problems with it- I miss the old her. Sometimes I feel like I don't know her at all anymore :( The best friend I used to love was a girl who I could gossip and talk to about everything, have fun, enjoy my time with her. Now I feel like she tries to act superior, she's trying to be in competition over me over usless stuff, like mobile phones which is really sad. As soon as I got my 3330, she decided she wanted an 8250 when there's nothing wrong with her 3310. Also it's like she thinks she's so good coz she gets government assistence, while I get nothing, even though my dad earns something like $2000 over what the cut-off for government assistence is (it's kinda hard to explain) I dunno, she's just not the same girl I knew 5 1/2 years ago when I first met her :(
