ok... here's my mindset on this. The next game in the series is going to be Jedi Outcast II: somthing or other.

here's why
Dark Forces
Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
(future) Jedi Outcast II: blah blah blah
(even futurer) Blah blah blah II: the continuing adventures etc.
(very even futurer) The continuing adventures etc. II: stop it.

and so on and so forth.

What's wrong with calling the game Dark Forces III: Jedi Outcast?

Well, for one, how many posts have you seen that refer to Jedi Knight as DFII? This question was addressed somewhere on the official JO website. The answer was mostly because it is getting away from the Dark Forces and more to the Jedi stuff. Look for the FAQ on the official site and I think this page too.
