View Full Version : Mara Jade skin is ready to go!

04-03-2002, 04:47 PM
I recently finished up my Mara Jade skin (based on the one from MotS) and hopefully, it will be added to Jedi-Outcast's filebase soon. The model used was Jan and the textures are edited versions of Jan's. Here are some screenies:

Special thanks goes out to Crosbie for helping me make her a bot. Thanks again man!

Any and all feedback is welcomed and appreciated!

hmm.. really reminds me more of a Jan with badly dyed hair, some make up, and a new jacket than miss Jade really ^_^"

Cant see the hair well from those screenies, but the purple shirt looks good

I like it - good work. the more skins the better!

I'd like to use your skin in SP, how can I get it and how do I make it work please?

Thanks in advance.

04-04-2002, 11:27 AM
As far as I know, there is no way to do that. Maybe when the SDK comes out, though.

04-04-2002, 08:00 PM
uh... where is the skin? can i have it please? :)

email it to brycel71@hotmail.com please, ok? :)

I can't really see the hair colours.. but the rest looks good!!!

i personaly hope to see a Mara Jade model more so than just a skin
but nice work overall

Instead of Jan, why not try to use the JediF model? I don't think it has the goggles.

04-05-2002, 12:31 AM
where is the jedif model?

04-05-2002, 01:33 PM
Even I would like to know where it is  . If I knew where the JediF was, I might be able to do a better Mara skin for it.

04-05-2002, 02:03 PM
Dont know where, but if you go SP, types helpusobi 1, and then npc spawn jedif, youll see her :)

Thanks for the tip, ReaperFett. I'll try that out and I'll look for the files after that.

Sorry, but this is a really lazy and lousy skin. If it's a skin at that.

I didn't know Mara Jade wore goggles..

Coloring Jan purple doesn't make her Mara Jade. =/

A new version will be made available soon (w/o goggles and some other enhancements such as a new face).

Just a suggestion:

Mara Jade's Lightsaber is Luke's Skywalker's (anakin's in fact, well i mean the blue one :) ) So it will be more accurate if she is made with that. Forget MOTS, they messed it up (i'm not really sure why) Mara HAS that saber, not purple.

heres what she looks like directly from the official starwars site:

04-06-2002, 03:25 PM
another one from the timothy zahn novel

04-06-2002, 03:43 PM
Hmm...interesting. I guess I haven't read enough Star Wars novels lately, because I didn't know that. Ok, I'll forget MotS. Don't know why they messed it up, either *looks over at LucasArts.* Like I said, a new version will be made available as soon as I get some better reference pics

I actually have that book, but I've never finished it. I actually found a hand-drawn sketch on the official site as well that I think I will base some textures off of. And the pic on the SW CCG card of her is a pretty good shot, too.

The only other thing that I'm waiting for is for someone to figure out how to take the hip chaps and vest away from the Jan model w/o creating a huge hole there :) Maybe if the people over at Raven would release the SDK...

I think we can safely say that there is no "official" likeness of her (like say Luke Skywalker who most agree looks like Mark Hamill from the 1980's.). The book cover doesn't show her face very well, but we know she has light skin, red hair, and human female proportions. I think she looked fine in MotS, but do whatever you want. ; )

ANyone found the jedif model yet? it dosent seem to be named that in the pk3 file. I was going to attempt making a mara skin on it myself.

Took a quick peak and found the jedif model..it's actually the jan model with surfaces removed. Look at the npcs.cfg file, and search for 'JediF' and you'll see something like this a few lines down:

surfoff "torso_vest hips_chaps...."

I'm assuming you could do the same with the other models as well, like getting rid of Kyle's shoulderpad (prolly what they did for the different stormtroopers).

For those who have the model viewer (the one that came with a SoF pack), you can expand the model tree on the left and find the names of the surfaces.

I never knew about the jedif model until I read it here. Once I saw it, I pretty much knew what was done...I just had to confirm it. :)

Hope that helps.

I seriously think that this pic is exactly what somebody should be going for:

If someone made a model exactly like that it would kick serious ass. I know I'd use it

I think we can't trust the Offical Star Wars site for anything except JACK SH*T!

Whoever the people deciding these horribly bad-looking people are the "official" likenesses of these popular characters is completely out of it.

I mean COME ON! Read the books! read the comics! There is no OFFICIAL likeness for any of these characters. The authors of the respective mediums they appear in describe them in a way for each person to decide on their OWN how these characters look. I don't give one hot DAMN what the "official" star wars site says. Christ they turned Corran Horn (Keiran Halycon) in a balding fatass!

check out THAT! Maybe this COULD be COrran Horn, if he wasn't a freaking JEDI, or a a space fighter pilot, but instead a beer guzzling loser sitting on his fat butt watching the Television all day! I mean come ON!

Rely on your own imagination people, not what Lucasfilm tells you.

Horn looks like Bilbo Baggins!!

you should be thankful they even include that EU garbage on starwars.com, passing it off as canon!

/me prepares for the flaming about to ensue.... :mob:

Forget the site's crappy pics, use the rendition from penny arcade!! It's kickass and you know it :p

to get rid of the goggles you dont have to do any coding. just have the skin be a 32-bit TGA file and have your alpha channel clear over the part of the skin that does goggles. you can do the same for any skin, andy part of the model. its fairly quick and painless.

04-09-2002, 06:10 PM
I've already gotten rid of the goggles by the nodraw method in the skin file. I'll try to the 32-bit TGA file thing as soon as I finish typing this.

04-09-2002, 07:47 PM
Could you explain that in a little more detail, Tems? I'm not really sure how to do that.

04-09-2002, 09:52 PM
Wait you don't need to that coding or maybe you do but, there is a female jedi model. you can see it by using "npc spawn jediF" it's jan's head with kyle/morgan katarn type clothing. You could use it as the base for a new Mara Jade model. Or i could just be crazy like the voices in my head say.

04-09-2002, 11:49 PM
Unfortunately DarthDuke, that JediF model is nothing more than the Jan model w/o a few model pieces. It's defined in the npcs.cfg file. As far as I know, there is no way to use it in multiplayer at this time. It might be possible when the SDK comes out. The code is the only way currently known to remove parts of the model, but removing something like the hip chaps or the vest causes there to be huge holes in the model. Although removing the goggles and the torso computer with the code is perfectly fine. Thanks anyway.

04-11-2002, 04:20 AM
how do you remove the goggles and belt computer with code? i've been trying to figure it out, but i am utterly useless at programming, (and this is the basic stuff!)

04-12-2002, 08:38 AM
It's pretty simple, really. All you do is go into the .skin file and replace the filename and path of the texture with nodraw and it won't draw that part of the model. Here's an example:

change this:

to this:

That's all there is to it :)

Oh, btw, I got an offer from a German computer gaming magazine called Computec. They want to use my Mara v2.0 skin on one of their covercds, which I thought was pretty cool.
