As you probably well know this site has a weapons page/guide listing all of the games weapons such as blaster, heavy repeater... and 'Laser trip mine'
In this items descriptions its knowlegable creator has said (half-life anyone). Actually kind sir the rip off is from a time before half-life.

With all the talk of Noobies, surely the one of the sights creators would have to know of Duke Nukem 3D which is a first person shooter made long before Half-life, contains a laser trip mine much like jedi 2s.
Call me a perfectionist if you will but noobie accusations have been made on smaller points than this before.

or have they?

Oh and this is not where you should be posting this...

This should be in the feedback forum...

When a jkii mod gets here i am sure this will be moved there.

I don't really have an opinion - I just want to get my post above 50 before I sleep as I am sure my title will change from Bantha Fodder at the 50th post.

But why would it be bothing you if the trip mine isnt original? Rocket launchers are not original either. Same for blasters. Infact the E-11 blaster is actually a german submachine gun with bits n peices added onto it (from WW2 or WW1 I think).

My point is being original doesnt mean its automatically good. Take Jar-Jar Binks for example of an originally stupid creation. And that said, not everything which is not-original is bad. The guns in JO are great (including the trip mines) whether their original or not.

That is just my two rebulic credits worth while I am trying to get to post #50

Just incase someone thinks I am refering to any of the above people positng here, I stress when I say "you" I am meaning the proverbial "you".

Jeeze, if you want to get really picky, and the DN mine is an acceptable ancestor of the trip mine in Outcast, then isn't the mine in DF and JK a more direct one? Almost every single FPS game in the past 7 years has featured a mine of some sort.

Duke Nukem's trip mine did have a laser, not a blinking light... That's what made it cool. And let's not forget about Duke's pipe bombs - the incarnation of the remote mines.

It's all in a circle, dudes. And borrowing on past ideas isn't a bad thing, either. It's called "progress". ;-)

Can I get a

? :D

hmmm but I am pretty sure this thread qualifies for the "Originally stupid" mark. Who cares ... who has the right to say they invented the trip mines... every FPS today is just a ripoff then... Wolf3D was first and everything else are just ripoffs. Move along ... nothing to see here.

Wolfenstein 3D was the first?

I actually remember some way before that, but they weren't that "purty". :)

I don't get why people go to such lengths to complain about something. So the mines work just like some other game. Who gives a crap? Who says they have to reinvent the freakin' mine just because it's a new game.

Why not point out the fact that no other game (besides JK) has a light saber? Is that original enough for you?

Super Star Wars had a lightsaber...

Catacomb Abyss was the first. Wolfenstein used a slightly upgraded engine from that.

Apparently, somebody cares enough to keep replying to this thread... ;-)

The trip mine is an actual weapon listed in the Weps and Tech Star Wars guide, it looks the same, and acts the same. The concept is perhaps not new, but they did not take this from anywhere else but Star Wars itself.:fett:
