and my most prized possesion
in pop memorabilia
is my autographed poster
of the band.

07-07-2002, 03:06 PM
I've been listening to the new Blackalicious a lot lately. I've also been listening to Tribe Called ?uest's "Low End Theory."

But my favorite bands are Lungfish and the Get Hustle.

07-08-2002, 02:39 PM
*grabs mxbx's head and kisses him on the lips* You listen to Blackalicious and Tribe Called Quest two awesome bands in comparison to a lot of the R and B, Pop, Alternitive pop (Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Staind) BS there is.

Oh I also like Cake and Wilco.

07-08-2002, 03:13 PM
Hey, I haven't posted in this thread yet. Amaze. This will be a long one, probably, so bear with me. In no particular order:

Rage Against The Machine

Oingo Boingo (Danny Elfman's band)

Beastie Boys

The Smashing Pumpkins

There. I think I've now managed to offend everyone with my pretty eclectic tastes. I guess when it comes to the music, I tend to like bands rather then genres. Here I have examples of a lot of bands that I think are great. However, If someone were to ask me if I generally liked the genre that one of these particular bands belonged to, I would probably say no.

07-08-2002, 03:22 PM
A RADIOHEAD FAN!? I love you!!! What's your favourite album? Mine is Kid A.

07-08-2002, 04:31 PM
Argh, tough call. I guess I would have to say OK Computer. That's the only one I don't have a legit copy of though.

07-08-2002, 09:49 PM
I used to have a burnt copy of OK Computer but I went to the store and bought a copy eventually, I couldn't handle the guilt. Since then I've given up burning CD's completely. Not many people think about the fact that they're stealing from people who worked hard to make that music. Now I go ape s*** at people who ask me to burn CD's or have burnt CD's.

07-09-2002, 03:18 AM
I'll buy it...someday ;). My burnt copy isn't that good. It has artificial gaps between each track, so the transitions aren't as good as in the real deal.

I could bore you with a very long list, but I'll just say that my musical tastes cover everything from Beethoven to Abba to Marylin Manson to Judas Priest. Radiohead owns, OK Computer one of the best albums ever in existence, second only to Beethovens 9th Symphony, and followed closely by Pet Shop Boys Discography. This is only my opinion, of course.

07-11-2002, 03:33 AM

Cake = good.

07-11-2002, 01:32 PM
Cake are alright. Not my favorite band, but I've got 2 of their CDs. It's good to see that they've got some fans out there :).

07-11-2002, 01:35 PM
They're not my favorite band either. Still good though.

07-11-2002, 01:46 PM
When I first heard Cake, I thought they were a total rip-off of Pavement. Then I thought, well, maybe not. Now, I really don't care.

Let apathy guide you as it has me!

cake and gorrilaz, some of my favs.

Has anyone heard of Blind Guardian? They are one of my favorite bands. "The Bard's Song - In The Forest" (Track 7 on "Somewhere Far Beyond") is my favorite. On Newgrounds, someone made a serious music video to it (anime-style, of course) and I LOVED it! That's how I first heard of them.

Isis Kaldara
07-17-2002, 04:18 PM
Nah. The Dope Show is the only MM song I've ever heard.

"The Bard's Song - In The Forest" by Blind Guardian is what I look forward to plunking on my new guitar. Right now I have it on repeat after Hamiltones.

07-19-2002, 08:45 AM
Who are Blind Guardian? I've never heard of them in my life.

Isis Kaldara
07-19-2002, 12:51 PM
Blind Guardian is a European heavy rock group. They are great fans of the LOTR books and have wonderfully placed a dash of medevil element to the heavy metal tunes of today. I am proud of myself... I started playing the guitar yesterday and I already have the introduction to "The Bard's Song - In The Forest" down.

I have recently re-discovered Metallica
and Marylin Manson. Has anyone listened
to MM's newer stuff? It's pretty good.

never even heard Manson,
know the name,
kind of sentimentalist
old school Goth,
I mean old Goth was
Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy
it was very romantic
not some freaky guy like MM
(and then there's M&M)
case and point.
anyway when you've seen
Alice on stage, I mean
all MM is doing is trying to
do latteral Alice bit.
seen Demon from KISS
and ALice.
might like MM though hard to say
can't be objective til I have
heard whatever sex it is.

good thing used to be on the net
was Mondo mini shows
had 2 cartoons
I liked the music one called
"Absloute Zero"
it was hosted by Puffin called Ozzy
and girl host Hvita.
and now she was a cutie.
great fun poking fun
at musicans too.

07-19-2002, 04:22 PM
MM scares me.

07-19-2002, 04:41 PM
MM is putting on an act. It's just a gimmick, it's how he sells records. He real name is probably Francis.

07-19-2002, 11:05 PM
ok then the people that buy his stuff because they think that's really him scare me.

sci-fi stuff and things like that.

*Is listening to "Asia" by Asia.*

07-26-2002, 10:57 AM
Currently in my listening list:

Final Fantasy 8 Soundtrack
Radiohead - The Bends
Del The Funky Homosapien - Both Sides Of The Brain
Badly Drawn Boy - Once Around The Block
Daft Punk - Discovery
Oasis - Heathen Chemistry

07-28-2002, 03:22 AM
I'm listening to a lot of indie stuff right now including:

764-HERO - Weekends of Sound (EP)
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command
Ben Kweller - Sha Sha
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

You've probably heard of a couple of those bands.

07-28-2002, 04:24 AM
Lately I've been listening to the Ok Computer CD by Radiohead. I've been listening to a lot of classical too, mostly Strauss and Mozart.

07-30-2002, 08:30 AM
Mtblanc: Wow a Wilco fan! YHF kicks ass! Lately I've been obsessed with the new Radiohead songs from the Portugal and Spain tour.

There's a lot of radiohead fans here but you don't know the true genius of RH till you listen to Kid A and Amnesiac.

07-30-2002, 10:21 AM
Wilco is great

07-30-2002, 08:42 PM
Yeah, Wilco rules. I'm happy to see some Wilco fans on this forum, that rocks!

The last Radiohead stuff I've heard has been OK Computer. Maybe I should get with the times.

07-31-2002, 11:48 AM
Kid A is cool.

They played Radiohead and Wilco in Vanilla Sky, cool movie.

08-01-2002, 06:28 AM
Whilst 'Kid A' and 'Amnesiac' are no doubt good albums, I still prefer 'The Bends' for single songs alone.

08-01-2002, 12:26 PM
I like Paranoid Android.

08-01-2002, 06:05 PM
Me too. OK Comp. has all my favourite Radiohead songs on it. Most of their stuff after that is so-so.

08-02-2002, 04:58 AM
1. Kid A (Absolute genius!)
2. OK Computer
3. Amnesiac
4. The Bends
5. Pablo Honey

Oh and btw they didn't play Wilco in vanilla sky. They played two radiohead songs though they had Everything in its right place in the begining when David wakes up and I Might Be Wrong when he's talking to the tech support in the bar.

Btw Vanilla Sky kicks ass it's my 2nd favourite film of 2001 the top 5 being:

1. Waking Life
2. Vanilla Sky
3. Memento
4. Almost Famous
5. Zoolander

08-02-2002, 11:50 AM
ya Vanilla Sky is great. And David asks the other guy if he wants to listen to Radiohead in the car.

08-02-2002, 04:05 PM
Really? I thought Vanilla Sky was absolute bollocks. It wasn't clever at all, I don't care what anyone else wants to say. It was garbage. I hate it when films try to be 'deep' and fail miserably. I also disliked American Beauty for the same reasons, and yes, I did understand both films, I'm not some idiot who only likes movies with explosions and poop jokes.

My favourite Radiohead Albums are:

1. The Bends
2. OK Computer
3. Kid A
4. Amnesiac
5. Pablo Honey

originally posted by spoon_man Has anyone here ever seen Waking Life? It is absolute genius and the best film of 2001. It's changed the way I live my life. It's almost like my religon now. Hell yeah, you're right. That movie was brilliant. I thought it was boring at first but then a plot started forming and the end was brilliant. I saw it like five times after that but then I had to return it to the video store.

Has anyone ever heard of Dimmu Borgir? They are the best. They are so good. On a very, very, rare occasion they came to Pops in my very own St. Louis. They were amazing! They took a piece of my soul at that concert and have not given it back yet. I am listening to the song Insight and the Catharsis on the Spiritual Black Dimensions CD as I type.

"Oh, dreadful angel of mine
Enrich me with the vastness of your being
Rigid father, teach me how to comprehend
I'll commit myself to understand
For I am the accomplice.."

Yay! I had no idea there'd be another waking life fan in here. I watched the film twice in the theatres and after the second time I went to the video store and grabbed everything I could find by the director richard linklater. He is a genius.

Dazed and confused
Before Sunrise
The Newton Boys
and of course, Waking Life.

I just looked him up. I've only seen suburbia, which he didn't write. I haven't even seen Dazed and Confused(which he did write) and everyone says it's great.

Did you get the DVD to Waking Life? I learned a lot from Linklater's Commentary. Also there's a tutorial on the program they used for the art. It's really awesome. If I see that program anywhere I have to buy it.

I have a new favourite song: The accoustic version of Lucky Love by Ace of Base which I just now downloaded. It almost brought tears to my eyes. Ah, who am I kidding - I cried like a little girl.
