But isn't that Darths indestructible glove that's protecting him?

I never heard of him having gloves like that.
Though I could be wrong, I just thought that Vader was a bad mofo. http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/frown.gif

No, the indestructible glove was just a silly idea that popped up in a childrens' book; it isn't even officially EU, much less canon.
What Vader's doing here is either lesser Force shield, in which the Force-user creates a shell around themselves to catch incoming matter energy (Jedi Knight calls this "Force Protection"), or absorb/dissipate energy, in which a Force-user can pull energy into themselves and either channel it or release it harmlessly (JK says "Force Absorb").
The WEG RPG only includes absorb/dissipate energy, but personally, I'd go with the Force shield.
Absorb/dissipate wouldn't leave the big explosion (a split-second after this frame). It's more effectively used on things like lightning (including Force-lightning), burns, radiation exposure, and even sunburns.
Corran used this in I, Jedi to absorb an explosion (and vaporized his clothes http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/wink.gif ).

Vaporizes his clothes huh? That would be an interesting change to force absorb for Jedi Knight. http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/biggrin.gif hehehheeheheeee

Depends on the source you believe. If you believe the crappy kidddy books with Jedi Prince Ken, then it's the glove. I tend to think that it's an absorb/disipate Force usage. The Force creating a shield would be nice, but making a shield out of Air Molecules would ionize the room, thus killing everyone. Not a good thing.
