View Full Version : TAB/User Login MP = Nasty Stutter

I have a very nasty stutter when someone logs in the game or if I hit tab to check scores.
My system is a Athalon 1.33 ghz processor, 512 megs of ram and a GeForce 4 ti4600 on Windows XP.
I close everything down except the game and it does this.
Anyone tell me a fix?

when someone logs in is a momentary ping spike as they sych with the server, there is nothing other clients can do about it (as far as I can imagine) and there probably is little that can be done about it to start with.
as for the other... whats your FSB and ram speed?
and what is the speed of your cd drive, and hard drive, as well as what IDE speed are they attached at?
might be able to help with some tweaks if you know this info.
edit: oh yeah, there is only one 'A' as in "Athlon"

Sorry Riverwalker, that's not quite it.
These stutters occur when the game loads up the models for the players that have connected. If you have the deferred loading cvar set it waits until you press die or press tab to load in the models for anyone who has joined in the interim, if you have it off it occurs as they enter the game. I use deferred loading and try to keep track of people entering so I know not to hit tab if someone has entered and I don't wanna take the chance of getting killed while lagged out due to the loading.

I stand corrected,
but, in that case doing tweaks to minimize loading times unilaterally could still help.

Theres some 'force models' option isnt there? So all the models are the same? Why wouldnt you just set that :)
