mandrills cane

i am at the stage where i am trying to follow ozzie mandrill into the forest but i am not sure how to create the trail to follow him i know it has something to do with his cane but i dont know what!
please help:confused:

He's got some quality wood for that cane of his... not like the cheap wood used for the other stuff you might find on the island. Even so, he breaks 'em so often, he has to get new ones...
