Ok,

I just spent about an hour and a half, well, just take a look at this level I made. It's for jedi knight, it's only beta, so expect it to be bigger in the next release...

it's just a teaser level for what the next thing will be like. I already got some more ideas, but won't spoil you with them. I think i'll put a water pit in the middle of the room, it'll be a place where the dragon gets a drink.

Oh come on man, you could have said that a little nicer, HE'S A NEWBIE!! I mean, what were you expecting? He's learning things at a nice pace and he was showing us what he had just learned how to do. I've been doing this stuff for quite awhile and I still can't do EVERYTHING correctly. Yeah I admit it really sucks when your new and try something and someone says it sucks. It does not help someone at all. Now on the other hand if you would provide that person with suggestion on how to improve, then you are contributing on helping this person to get better...

I think that comment was really mean oninosensi.

After rereading what i posted, I will agree, it was harsher than I intended.

Constructive critism then:

Avoid boxes: it looks really bad, newbie or experenced level maker (admitatly, it looks better than my first attempts).

Texturing: Could have been better- What is on the level is very repetive and, well, dull. Spice it up a bit. I have done some mats, and would be willing to send you some.

Level dynamics: With all the hype you have done, I really expeceted more. It is just too simple a level- one thing repeated over and over is Never Release Your First Level. And I do understand this is your first attempt and you want to share it.

With a little bit of work (and some cleaving) what you do have can look alot better. Play with the lighting as well. Light adds a lot to a level. And again, texuring helps alot. one thing in your favor: no dflt.mat to be seen anywhere.

Hope this helps, and I will try to be less destrucive with my comments in the future.

C'mon, everybody at once say that level sucks!!!!

That level looks uglier than snot compared to what it looks like upgraded. I've been busily working on it, i made it be for mots (there's a ton more enemies to fight), i've made it circular, and today i'm going to put in some more things for it.

Eventually it'll be:

Single Player
Multiplayer
Multiplayer W/Rbots

I'm so proud of what it looks like now.

Except one bad thing about it. Last night i accidentally hit calculate lighting, and saved it, everything looks gross right now. Does anybody know how to get it back to normal?

Oh the stuff i made for it, the enemies, well i gave them better .ai. I love that jkspecs!

The gammorean acts more fierce now, all the enemies have a bit more health too.

Now to find some nicer textures....

Oh, paul, what's the name of your pet Noghris???

ok, level is 50% done. It would be done right now, *but* i got an overload of ideas.

The ideas are:

Make some places that are accessable via mods only

Make a food bar

Put some hallways to the viewing rooms

Place cams in the arena

Make a place where the owner watches

Make some guards patrolling the place

Put people in the hallways

Oh, i have one or ten things to say that i love about jed:

Extrude
Vertex mover (this save my life)

I've got some more, but since i'm not really allowed on the net right now, i'll save the for when my level is done. And right now, it's only 50% complete.

I'll release it when it's 100+% complete.

aaaaaaalmost there.....aaaaaaaallmoooost there....

I just gotta:

Texture
Place guards/people in hallways
Set up the cams better
Set up the food bar

And then I'll need someone to do the doors for me, as i almost got a headache trying to
get the doors in without hom effects.

Then I'll release it, and when i figure out how to get it to work in multiplay i'll release it for that too. I've never actually played a multiplayer mots or jedi knight (or any other star wars game) so Rhett might need to help me with that part.

I think i could possibly add rbots to it, i checked the tutorial and sorta understand it.

Have you downloaded Boam and boaM2 "birth of a mercinary"? They are some of the best, if not the best, single player levels out there. Look to them for inspirement and design ideas. Oh and why aren't you on aim anymore?!

Ummm, cause AIM sucks? (Did I mention I hate AOL?)

If some areas are to be accessable with mods only, make sure you say "best played with mod such-and-such"

Is the level SP or MP?

Right now it's single player. I'm going to make it multiplayer later though, most likely i won't though, since i don't know how to.

The only mod you'll need is a jetpack one. You don't really need it though.

Ok, here's a list of all the enemies i have so far (you can kill the spectators, but i don't suggest you do it):


Gamorrean (upgraded .ai file)
Rancor
Vornskr
Noghri
Cyborrean Battle Dog (i need to figure out how to make it hurt the player though)
Assassin Droid (severely upgraded .ai file)
Loader Droid (upgraded kindof)
Ice Wampa
Grave Tusken (kinda upgraded his .ai)

I still need to put some more, there's going to be different 'levels' which basically is the same level, but the people are positioned differently, and there'll be new fighters. This is basically a "Gladiator" type level though, which means you just fight, but with a saber (i'm going to make the enemies invincible to laser fire since i figured out what the value "Thingframes" is), I'm thinking about making something else besides a lightsaber for the 'saber' weapon, let me get a pic for you all of a weapon idea that came to me last night.. http://www.sirstevesguide.com/sef/seprxizordarth.jpg it's the one that Xizor is holding, and there's another one...can't find it right now, but it's the weapon that the Coruscant Mercenary boss has, it looks kinda like a lightsaber, but isn't, has 2 blue ends and is used like maul's saber.

NEVER MIND.

An idea surged through my mind.

The walkplayer is going to be a Gamorrean.

I've got the Axe to work (only in 3rd person though http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/frown.gif) The primary and secondary fire works, and I also know how to make it be able walk, I just need to get them both to work at the same time.

Well, i'm off to go get it to work, 'cause i believe that I know how, i'll be back with the results later. (sooner if they're good)

The reason i got to use the axe and the gamorrean wasn't moving is because it was controlled by the .ai!!!!! This can't be happening to me!!!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Well, i can try to edit the .ai file so that the walking isn't controlled by the .ai.......... http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/frown.gif i wish there was a better solution...

Why though? They're Mercenaries, i did some research kindof, and it said their weapon of choice is the thermal detonator...interesting.

well, if you thought that level wasn't bad, you're goin'a love the next one. It is a bit boxy, but....WHO CARES!!!!!! What type of house ISN'T boxy???? it's not a house though. Oh, and in this version you can kill the spectators and take their weapons, i've figured a way how to make it so they have no weapons though, all i needed to do was import their 3do and delete the weapon sector, than multiselect it all and export as 3do and put it in a template.

So in this version, you can kill the ones with weapons and grab there weapons, but that way's considered cheating. ;p

Well, i gotta check more posts and then i'll upload the level and everyone can download it.

I know it's beta, but you still might want to add a readme.txt with your email addy to the levels (just so nobody tries to rip off your level, or if they want to send you feedback, etc).

i agree with him too. i'll only include an update when the level is released.

The next level I'm currently working on is the one i had in mind the first time i started jed, the at-st training yards. I have made a decent and worthy barracks (although it's just a 3do, it won't matter 'cause the player is going to drive an atst) The barracks looks like the one in rogue squadron, i just need to mat it. I'm first going to build 3dos, then put them into the level, and i'll put them up on my website too. The next barracks type thing i have in mind is a landing pad for the imperial craft.

I need to learn how to put snow into it too, i already learned how to do fog, at least THAT was easy (although it doesn't look all that great since you can only see it when you're in it).

Well, i'm not going to go on and on about my ideas, you'll just have to see them in the level when it comes out. http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/biggrin.gif

well, i've done the landing pad (as seen in return of the jedi). Looks almost like it, almost perfect that is.


I'm saving the rest of what i did for the dload. I need to figure out how to mat these so that they don't look like garbage.
