YEAH!!!!

I dloaded some of those tutorials, and i'm glad that i did. I got the one on circle cleaving, and the water one, and the fog one (which didn't work for me...)

First i tried the water one, and everything worked, then i tried the circle one, didn't follow it exactly, but ended up making the sector look like a circle, then i extruded the bottom of it, and made a neat little water well thing, and extruded one of the top surfaces (so it looks like an entranceway to the water). This is so fun!!!

Water couldn't be any easier. http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/biggrin.gif

hmm...i guess i can start on a new Kell Dragon arena thing.

What helped me alot after I did many of the tutorials was to try and make levels look like actual places. Like a bus station or your room or a restaurant. It will really help and teach you quite a bit.

Have you ever seen other game editors? Jed is sooooooo much simpler than those. To tell you the truth, those other ones scare me...
If yo want me toi i'll show yo how to use jed.

I never thought I'd see someone use "JED", "learning", and "fast" all in the same sentence (without a smiley winking face at the end anyway).

j/k! ; )

I dunno, I haven't used every game editor known to man, but to me JED was actually more complicated/less user-friendly than a lot of them (back in the .8x days). I think many people have a biased or skewed view of JED (in the JK community at least) because it's all most people know about, and it has such a mystique built up around it over the years.

Reminds me of a story I heard from QuakeCon. This guy was saying how he chose to develop mods for Quake3, because it was so much easier than learning Unreal Tournament.
; )

Now, I'm not knocking JED or anyone that likes to use it, I'm just saying that in my experience, blah, blah, blah, force long post, etc.

but but but, jed has always been so nice to me. http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/frown.gif Being complicated is a good thing in jed. It just means it can do more... http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/biggrin.gif
*GASP* you aborted your force long post!!!

Yeah well when you need a tutorial just for making a room you know the thing is complicated.

I mean look at the old Warcraft 2 editor: now that's simple. Drag & Drop baby... That's what it's all about http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/biggrin.gif

To all level editor creators: Windows interface is your friend. Drag and Drop. Really. Drag and Drop.

Being complicated is a good thing in jed. It just means it can do more...

It should be noted that complicated does not necessarily equal 'better' or 'more powerful.'

If you can, rattle off some stuff that JED can do that say, JKEdit can't do...

Not trying to start a battle here, use what you want, just askin'

I'll agree, the WC2 map editor was super easy.. but then again all you're doing is using tiles, since it's a top-down, 2D game.

JED is easy once you understand some basic stuff about it. i think it's better than most editors (not including jkedit cause i haven't used that) because you can make more than just a level, you can make things to go into the level, which is lacking in most editors that come with the different games.

Well JKEdit can do that too.. and JKEdit is free to use.. but to get the FULL version, you have to pay. The trial verrsion is free for an unlimited amount of time, and you can do everything you can do in the full, you just can't make as much of certain things, so in theory, the FREE levels will be somewhat less complex than the ones made with the full version.

I agree, I wish full version of JKEdit was completely free. If it was, there'd be no reason to ever use Jed, IMHO.

I've tried the trial version before and it wouldn't let me make more than like 3 rooms. http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/frown.gif You have to admit that if you were making a single player level you don't wanna try to do it using the free version of jkedit. So it's ok to use the trial version of jkedit as long as your making a small death match level and we all know we need more of those. http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/rolleyes.gif http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/tongue.gif
If I had the full version of jkedit, I bet I would like it but i'm not gonna pay for an editor. http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/smile.gif

I agree. Really, that's all huh? Which version were you using?

$35 is too much. Even if he were to reduce the price to $10, it would be far more reasonable. But a game this old that he had no hand in making should have a free editor. I wonder how many he's actually sold.

It's just too bad that this hurts the use of his product, because it's a very good editor otherwise.
