View Full Version : How do the jedi block so much?

How does kyle block so many fricken bullets at one time. There are times when there are 10-15 stormtroopers firing away at him and he blocks every shot. I think that he should only be able to block a limited amount. This would make the game a lot more challenging.

To stop yourself being amazed ... just start the game again and go into the base and stand still watching where your shots hit (or, more to the point, DON'T hit) - a better question is how does Kyle end up having to block so many shots when there are stormies shooting at him ...

And these blastpoints, too accurate for Sandpeople. Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise.

Good thing the stormies that Ben was talking about don't exist anymore :trooper:

Those Sandpeople must shoot blindfolded. :)

hey i thought stormtroopers shot blindfolded? that's what the helmet is for, no?

i think the technical explanation lies in the jedi ability to predict the immediate future. If you watch the movies they often times move the saber to the next block before it's fired. And remember when luke blocks the probe droids shots with the blast helmet covering his eyes? The force partially controls the jedi's actions in such things.

With that blast shield down they can't see a thing!

Part of the way they block so many shots is as BlackM says, they can predict the immediate future but also the Force will move through there body and allow their movements to flow in the correct path. The Force is PART of them.

Now in a minute some guy is going to come in and say "Why do you nerds all waste your time talking about something that isn't real!? You guys need to get laid!"

Yes...but what the hell would we do to get laid? I mean you can suggest something but its not like those words would change us into football players with Ph. D's...

Hey... Im not saying you need to but invariably someone comes in and says it when people are debating Star Wars.

PartTimeGamerJock: "Dudes, you guys are into this way too much. How can you talk about Star Wars all the time? Don't you guys have real lives? You need to get laid! I have to go watch ESPN now and memorize thousands of baseball and footbal stats because that is what having a life means and sports are WAY more important than Star Wars!"

I think I nailed it, thank you.

Actually here is how I see the whole "stormtrooper stupidity thing."

I know Lucas is trying to say.. these guys are just a bunch of grunts who terrorize the villagers but are no match for the heroes, and they are just following orders, and not really that powerful, etc etc.

But, let's think about this, where do we get our stereotypes from?

Obi-Wan, who clearly has had too much sun, tells us that Imperial Stormtroopers are "so precise" as to be better than Sandpeople with blast points (compare this with the Sandpeople in Episode I shooting pod racers with their sniper rifles).

We see the Troopers in ANH fail to kill Han, Leia, Luke, and Obi-Wan with their guns.

I would argue that instead of looking at the Troopers in ANH, we should look at the "elite" troopers in ROTJ (on the battle on endor).

Now I know what people will say "they got beat by a bunch of teddy bears." Well of course I must point out, the Emperor didn't count on the ewoks being any sort of threat. It was pure luck that Leia got lost and met up with the ewoks, Chewbacca got hungry, and Threepio's gold body was there to make the Ewoks think he was a god. Had the rebels NOT joined forces with the ewoks, they would have been utterly destroyed or captured on the forest moon.

So since they were only worried about a tiny band of rebel sabateurs infiltrating the moon, no need for camo, which was a serious blunder (bright white armor on a green background = easy to see targets). Plus the ewoks had all sorts of advantages.. superior numbers, they knew the terrain much better than a group of troops who were probably only camped there a short time (while the ewoks grew up there). The troops were focused on the rebels, so they were unprepared to fight the primitives with their different tactics and trap-setting.

Plus the ewoks were superior in numbers, and if you pay attention, you'll see they took HEAVY casualties in the battle. The point was they distracted the Imperials long enough for the rebels to accomplish their mission and knock out the shield generator. Think about the Battle of Hoth. Luke and the others also took heavy casualties and their job was just to keep the Imperial troops busy and slow them down in time for most of the transports to get away (obviously not all of them made it either).

Chewbacca you recall captured that AT-ST, which helped turn the tide by suprising their artillery (notice how the other walkers didn't even have a chance to fire back).

So, these elite troops would have won, were it not for the incompetence of their superiors. As to the Death Star troops, let's just say that these guys were probably the WORST troops you'd ever meet in the Empire. They are the guys that probably got assigned there to keep them out of trouble.

Think about it.. you're on this impenetrable space station, that flies around blowing up planets. Who's going to bust in? You only need a couple of guards to protect a few unarmed prisoners who are going to be executed anyway (how are they going to escape? they can't get past the tractor beam, right?). So these guys are bored out of their minds wandering around their patrols all day (remember that discussion when Obi-Wan is shutting off the tractor beam?). They're armed with machine-guns.. good for corridor combat. Not sniper weapons. Notice how the troopers on Leia's Blockade Runner make mincemeat of her commando bodyguards. Obviously those guys don't "suck."

Now, to make a long story short, the Tatooine troopers, as you can see, are NOT armed with the standard issue blaster rifles we see the Death Star troopers using. Instead they have longer barreled sniper and heavy rifle type weapons. Heck, they might have the kind of weaponry Kyle would carry into battle! We don't actually SEE them shooting up the Jawa sandcrawler (I doubt they presented much of a challenge anyway, that thing is armored, but slow moving, etc). The Jawas seem weak, but you'd think they would have to have some kind of way of protecting themselves from sandpeople, unless they had some kind of alliance or protection scheme (I don't know).

So everybody forgets about the dead-eye Troopers on tatooine and all we are left with in the games are the stereotypical "crap" troopers like we saw on the Deathstar.

Then again, Vader and Tarkin did give orders for the princess to be allowed to escape, so maybe they aren't such bad shots after all... just think of it as "scare fire."

However, I figure the troopers Kyle meets are probably mostly crap anyway, as they are stationed on these remote bases, and the Remnant has to be running short on troopers, so their ranks aren't going to be always stocked with the most elite, but anybody they can get their hands on these days.

Yay Kurgan!! You rule!!! That is the best explanation for Stormtroopers I've heard!! :D It all makes such good sense :)
