I've tried making an elevator, by making a brush into a func plat, and assigning a height via the N key. It doesn't show up in game for some reason. Do I need to add waypoints to the plat to make it visible? There's something missing from the FAQ explanation...

What you could do is to make your elevator a door entity, and give it the following properties: Key: angle Value: -1 to make it go upwards and Key: lip Value: -(the height you want it to elevate to)

func_plat works just fine. No need to make it a door. You may have placed the brush in the "down" position, when in fact you have to place it in the "up" position. If you put it in the "down" position and gave it a height, your plat is probably drawn way down under your level.
